INTRODUCTION section 1
DESCRIPTION
The Turf Roller TR130 is the compact roller that is
easy to operate and transport - to get that rolling job
done quickly. It has the dual fill / drain plugs and
special rounded-edge design roller to prevent turf
damage and a large rear support roller.

GENERAL SAFETY
BE ALERT!
•Do not run engine at excessive speeds.
•Do not operate the turf roller unless the chain
and engine guards are securely in place.
•Tomaintaincontrol of themachine,use onlya
lowspeedwhile walkingbeside theturf roller.
•Exercise caution when operating across the
side of a hill. If the hill is too steep (20 degree
incline or more), the machine may tip over
causing personal injury and machine dam-
age. Always walk on the up--hill side of the
turfroller whenoperating onthesideofa hill.
•To prevent accidental movement of the ma-
chine, turn the engine off.
•When parking or unattended -- turn the en-
gine off to prevent movement of the roller.

BEFORE STARTING:
1. READ SAFETY DECALS
2. Check engine and hydrostatic transmission oil
levels.
3.Visually checkfor looseor missingpartsorbolts.
4. Fill with clean fuel.
STARTING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position.
2. Move the choke lever to the CLOSE position.
NOTE: The choke may not be needed if the en-
gine is warm.
3. Move the throttle lever slightly to the left.
4. Turn the engine switch to the ON position.
5. Pull the recoil starter grip lightly until resistance
is felt, then pull briskly. NOTE: Do not allow the
starter grip to snap back against the engine.
6. As the engine warms up, gradually move the
choke lever to the OPEN position.
7. Position throttle for the desired engine speed.
NEVER USE ETHER AS A STARTING AID, OR
SEVERE DAMAGE TO ENGINE MAY OCCUR.
NEVER FILL FUEL TANK WITH ENGINE
RUNNING!
SPECIFICATIONS FOR FUELS AND OILS
ENGINE OIL
Fill the crankcase with oil that meets API service
designation SF, SF/CC, or SF/CD. Do not mix brands
or grades of oil. Recommended weight for general all
temperature use is:
SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40
FUEL
Use clean, fresh, regular or unleaded fuel. Use of
unleaded fuel results in less maintenance.
HYDRAULIC OIL
Fill hydrostatic transmission reservoir to the safe
level with approved hydraulic oil. Use only Steiner
Trans--Hydraulic Oil or SAE 30 engine oil. Do not use
automatic transmission fluid, multi-grade motor oil, or
any other type of hydraulic oil.
USE ONLY STEINER TRANS--HYDRAULIC OIL OR
SAE 30 ENGINE OIL. THE USE OF ANY OTHER OIL
MAY VOID WARRANTY AND IS NOT
RECOMMENDED.

Operating Instructions
ENGINE
The Brouwer Turf Roller is equipped with a 5--1/2 HP
engine.
Complete details and operation instructions can be
found in the engine manufacturer's manual.
LOCATION OF CONTROLS
The hydrostatic drive control is located on the left
side of the steering column.
The freewheel control crank is located on the front of
the hydrostatic air duct.
STARTING THE ENGINE
For complete engine starting and stopping
procedures, see the engine manual.
Always start the engine with
the hydrostatic drive lever in
neutral. Failure to observe this precaution could
result in serious personal injury and/or machine
damage.
CONTROL OPERATIONS
Hydrostatic drive control:
This control governs the travel direction (forward or
reverse) and travel speed of your turf roller. (See
Drawing 1)
To move forward, move lever to the left from neutral.
The further the lever is moved, the faster the forward
travel speed.
To reverse, move the lever to the right from neutral.
The further the lever is moved, the faster the reverse
travel speed.
When the engine is running
and the control lever is in
neutral, the machine can roll if left unattended.
Personal injury or machine damage may result.
Always use a slow steady movement when moving
the control lever from neutral to forward or reverse
so that the machine will not leap forward or reverse
-- not only for the safety of the operator, but also to
prevent damage to the machine.
Abrupt movement of the hydrostatic control lever can
cause the rear roller to lift. Shift slowly to avoid
injury.

ENGINE SPEED CONTROL
This control is located on the engine. Set engine
speed between 2/3 and full throttle as desired. For
operation, see the engine manual.
Running engine at low throttle
settings could cause
hydrostatic transmission damage due to
inadequate cooling air flow.
FREEWHEEL CONTROL
The freewheel control allows the turf roller to be
moved by external means when the engine has
been shut off. Release the crank lock and turn the
freewheel control crank clockwise to engage the
freewheel and turn counter clockwise to disengage
the freewheel. Re--lock the control crank with the
crank lock. (See Drawing 2)
Do not activate the freewheel
control when the turf roller is
stopped on an incline or when the engine is
running.

SERVICE section 5
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
Check the hydrostatic drive oil level daily. Make sure the oil is at the correct
level for hot or cold. Markings for hot or cold levels are located on the breather
level indicator.
Tofilltheexpansion tank,unscrewthereservoir breather cap.Afterfilling to the
correct level, replace the cap. If additional oil is required, use only Steiner
Trans--Hydraulic Oil or SAE 30 engine oil. Do not use automatic transmission
fluid, multi-grade motor oil, or any other type of hydraulic oil.
Change hydraulic oil annually.
Grease the turf rollers with Lithium--based grease every 50 hours or monthly
(whichever occurs first). (See lubrication chart below)
DO NOT GREASE CHAINS. Lubricate chains with SAE 10W-30 motor oil
every 30 hours or weekly (whichever occurs first).
Change engine oil every 100 hours of operation or bi-monthly, whichever
occurs first. Use SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40 with API service designation of
SF, SF/CC, or SF/CD.
