1 I N TRODUCTI ON

The probes of t he series LP…01 allow m easurem ent of phot om et ric and r adiom et ric

quant it ies such as illum inance ( lu x) , ir radiance ( W/ m 2) across VI S-NI R, UVA, UVB,

UVC spect ral regions, t he num ber of phot ons per t im e unit and ar ea in t he PAR region

( 400 nm …700 nm ) .

I n probes LP….01 there is no need for external power supply. The out put signal in m V

is given t hrough a r esist or shunt ing t he phot odiode ends. The photocurrent generated

by the phot odiode when hit by light, is convert ed to a pot ent ial difference, which is

read by a volt m et er. Once t he DDP ( Pot ent ial Difference) is known, t he m easured val-

ue can be calculat ed t hrough t he calibrat ion fact or.

LPPHOT01 and LPPAR01 probes are equipped wit h cosine cor rect ed diffuser .

LP…01 probes are su it a ble for in door a pplica t ion s which requires t he const ant

m onit or ing of t he quant it ies specified.

The output signal can be am plified or converted into a 4…20 m A or 0…10 Vdc signal

by using a convert er of t he series HD978TR3 ( 4…20 m A) or HD978TR4 (0…10 Vdc) for

DI N rail at t achm ent , or t he wall m ount ing t ypes HD978TR5 ( 4.…20 m A) and

HD978TR6 (0…10 Vdc) .

2 PROBES TECH N I CAL CH ARACTERI STI CS

All probes are com posed of a photodiode, a filt er, a diffuser, t he case and a 5 m et ers

cable allowing the connect ion of the probe t o t he reading instrum ent .

The t ypical var iat ion of pr obe sensit iv it y w it h t em perat ure var iat ion is -0.1% / oC. The

sensit ivity factor shown on t he probe was obt ained in an air-condit ioned env ironm ent

at an am bient t em perat ure of 23 ° C and relat ive hum idit y 50 ±10 % .

2 .1 LPPH OT 0 1

The LPPHOT01 probe ( class B luxm et er ) m easures

illu m inan ce ( lux ) defined as the r at io bet ween t he

lum inous flux ( lum en) passing t hrough a surface and t he

surface area ( m 2) .

The spect ral response curve of a phot om et ric probe is

equal t o the one of the hum an eye, known as st andard

phot opic cur ve V( λ) .

The difference in spectral response bet ween LPPHOT01 and

t he st andard phot opic cur ve V( λ) is calculat ed by m eans of

the error f1’.

The calibrat ion of t he pr obe is perform ed by com paring it t o a lux m et er calibr at ed by

a Prim ary Met rological I nst it ut e. The calibrat ion procedure follows t he CI E publicat ion

No 69 ( 1987) “ Met hod of Char act er izing I llum inance Met er s and Lum inance Met er s”

and is carried out by illum inat ing t he probe wit h a st andard illum inant A.

The illum inant A is a reference incandescent lam p wit h a colour t em perat ure of

2856K.

The LPRAD01 probe m easures ir r adian ce ( W/ m 2) defined as

t he r at io bet ween t he flow of energy ( W) crossing a sur face and

t he area of t he sur face considered ( m 2) in t he spect ral region of

the VI S-NI R ( 400 nm …1050 nm ) .

The spect ral response curve of the LPPOHT01 probe is shown in

t he follow ing gr aph t oget her w it h t he st andar d phot ot ypical

curve.

Pr obe calibrat ion is carried out by using 577/ 579 nm lines of a Xe-Hg lam p, filtered

t hr ough a special int er fer ent ial f ilt er. The t em perature has a negligible influence on

the spect ral response of the probe.

The LPPAR01 probe m easures t he ratio bet ween t he num ber of

photons that st rike a surface in one second, in the 400

nm …700 nm spect ral range and the surface area ( m 2) . This

quant it y is defined as PAR: Ph ot osy nt h et ica lly Act iv e Ra dia -

t ion .

The LPUVA01 probe m easures ir radia n ce ( W/ m 2) defined as

t he rat io bet ween t he r adiant flux ( W) passing t hrough a sur-

face and the sur face area ( m 2) in the UVA ( 3 1 5 nm …4 0 0

nm ) spect ral range. Thanks t o a new t y pe of phot odiode,

LPUVA01 is blind t o visible and infrared light.

The calibrat ion is perform ed by reference t o our prim ary st andar d wit h m onochrom at ic

light at 365 nm obtained separat ing t he em ission line of a Xe-Hg lam p w it h an infer-

ential filt er. To get best per form ances from your LPUVA01 it is st rongly recom m ended

that t he calibrat ion be checked annually. The t em perature has a negligible influence

on the spect ral response of t he probe.

Thanks t o the use of a new type of phot odiode, the

LPUVB01 probe is blind to visible and infrar ed light .
