1 INTRODUCTION
The L HOT02 probe me sures illumin nce (lux), defined s the r tio between the
luminous flux (lumen) through surf ce nd the surf ce re itself (m
2
).
The spectr l response curve of photometric probe is equ l to the hum n eye, known
s standard photopic curve V(λ). The difference in spectr l response between the
LPPHOT02 nd the st nd rd photopic curve V(λ) is ev lu ted through the c lcul tion
of the error f'

The probe h s been designed for outdoor installation for long periods, in p rticu-
l r for the me surement of d ylight in clim tologic l nd meteorologic l pplic tions.
Av il ble in the following versions:
•L HOT02: PASSIVE.
•L HOT02AC: ACTIVE with 4..20 mA CURRENT output.
•L HOT02AV: ACTIVE with 0..1 or 0..5 or 0..10 V VOLTAGE output to be de-
fined when ordering.
E ch luxmeter is individu lly c libr ted t the f ctory nd is distinguished by its own
c libr tion f ctor. The c libr tion is performed by comp rison with the reference lux-
meter of the Delt OHM metrology l bor tory, using n illumin nt "A" s source, s
required by CIE public tion N°69 “Methods of ch r cterizing illumin nce meters nd
lumin nce meters: Perform nce, ch r cteristics nd specific tions”.

LPPHOT02 probe is b sed on solid st te sensor, whose spectr l response h s been
d pted to th t of the hum n eye using speci l filter. The rel tive spectr l response
is reported on figure 2.1.

The luxmeter is provided with 50 mm extern l di meter dome in order to supply
suit ble protection of the sensor to the we ther gents.
The response in ccord nce with the cosine l w h s been obt ined th nks to the p r-
ticul r sh pe of the diffuser nd of the housing. The devi tion between the theoretic l
response nd the me sured one is shown in the Fig. 2.2.

3INSTALLATION
Before inst lling the sensor, refill the c rtridge cont ining silic -gel cryst ls. Silic gel
bsorbs humidity in the dome ch mber nd prevents, in p rticul r clim tic conditions,
condens tion on the intern l w lls of the domes nd me surement lter tion.
Do not touch the silic gel cryst ls with your h nds while refilling the c rtridge. C rry
out the following instructions in n environment s drier s possible:
1. Loosen the three screws th t fix the white sh de disk.
2. Unscrew the silic gel c rtridge using coin.
3. Remove the c rtridge perfor ted c p.
4. Open the s chet cont ining silic gel (supplied with the instrument).
5. Fill the c rtridge with the silic gel cryst ls.
6. Close the c rtridge with its own c p, p ying ttention th t the se ling O-ring be
properly positioned.
7. Screw the c rtridge to the sensor body using coin.
8. Check th t the c rtridge is screwed tightly (if not, silic gel life will be reduced).
9. Position the sh de disk nd screw it with the screws.
10. The sensor is re dy for use.
The figure below shows the oper tions necess ry to fill the c rtridge with the silic gel
cryst ls.

•The sensor must be mounted in n e sy-to-re ch loc tion in order to cle n the
dome regul rly nd c rry out m inten nce. At the s me time, m ke sure th t no
buildings, constructions, trees or obstructions exceed the horizont l pl ne where
the sensor lies. If this is not possible, select site where obstructions in the p th of
the sun from sunrise to sunset do not exceed 5 degrees of elev tion.
•The sensor must be loc ted f r from ny kind of obstruction, which might reflect
sunlight (or sun sh dow) onto the sensor itself.
•For fixing, use the holes on the sensor body (remove the sh de disk to ccess the
holes nd reposition it fter mounting) or the suit ble ccessories (see the figures
below). In order to llow n ccur te horizont l positioning, the sensor is equipped
with levelling device: the djustment is m de by me ns of the two levelling
screws th t llow djusting the sensor inclin tion. The m st height does not exceed
the sensor pl ne to void me surement errors c used by ny reflection or sh dow
of the m st itself.
•It is prefer bly to therm lly insul te the sensor from its mounting br cket ensuring,
t the s me time, good electric l cont ct to ground.

L HOT02… h s 4-pole connector nd uses the C M12AA4... optional c bles.
The metallic housing of the sensor should preferably be ground-
ed ( ) locally. In this case, do not connect the wire of the cable
corresponding to the housing to prevent ground loops.
Only if it is not possible to ground locally the metallic case of the
sensor, connect the wire of the cable corresponding to the hous-
ing to ground. Note: in LPPHOT02AV the housing is not connected to
the connector.
4.1 L HOT02
CONNECTIONS
The luxmeter LPPHOT02 is passive nd does not require power supply. It is to be
connected either to millivoltmeter or to d t cquisition system. Typic lly, the
luxmeter output sign l does not exceed 150 mV. In order to better exploit the luxme-
ter fe tures, the re dout instrument should h ve 1 µV resolution.

CONNECTIONS
The LPPHOT02AC luxmeter h s 4…20 mA output nd requires 10…30 Vdc extern l
power supply. It is to be connected to power supply nd n instrument with 4…20
mA input s shown in fig. 4.2. The lo d resist nce of the instrument re ding the sign l
must be ≤ 500 Ω.

CONNECTIONS
The LPPHOT02AV luxmeter h s 0…1 V, 0…5 V or 0…10 V output (depending on the
ordered output) nd requires extern l power supply: 10…30 Vdc for 0…1 V nd
0…5 V outputs, 15…30 Vdc for 0…10 V output. It is to be connected to power sup-
ply nd n instrument with volt ge input s shown in fig. 4.3. The lo d resist nce of
the instrument re ding the sign l must be

5.1 L HOT02
E ch luxmeter is distinguished by its own sensitivity (or c libr tion f ctor) S ex-
