1 System Description
The system consists of instrument, calibration and test
tiles and software for data transfer and analysis.
– Connect instrument with PC via USB cable (1).
– After first connect instrument is automatically
turned on.
– The battery pack in the instrument is automatically
charged (2).
– If instrument has turned off, turn it on by pressing
the Operate button.
– Download and install “smart-chart” software (3).

2 Software Installation
1. Download zip-file from:
https://www.byk-instruments.com/spectro2profiler
2. Save the file into a new folder and extract the com-
plete archive.
3. Right mouse click on “install.exe” and select op-
tion “Run as administrator”.
4. Follow the setup instructions on the screen.
NOTE:
After installation "smart-lab" and "smart-process" can
be used for 30 days free trail. Thereafter, you need to
register the software package.

4 Measurement Parameters
Go to Configuration > Measurement Parameters.
2D/3D Scales
Select scales for 2D reflectivity mea-
surement and 3D structure analysis.
Color System
Select color system.
Default is CIE L*a*b*.
Color Equation
Select color equation.
Default is ΔE*.
Color Indices
Select color indices.
Default is none.
Gloss
Turn gloss measurement on or off.
ΔGloss
Turn difference measurement for
gloss on or off.
Illumination
Select standard illuminant.
Default is D65.
Observer
Select standard observer.
Default is 10°.
Statistics
No. of readings to be taken per sam-
ple. Statistics are evaluated, if n > 1.
Always use autostandard
Search for nearest standard is al-
ways active.
Always continue last test series
No new test series is created; latest
series is opened automatically.
Measurement Screen
Select data to be displayed on
screen.

5 Difference Measurement
Compare a standard with a number of sample(s). You
can search for matching standards, create new stan-
dards and compare samples to standards. Results are au-
tomatically saved.
Click on icon Difference.

– Select existing standard from list (1) or add a new
standard.
– To add a new standard click on + symbol (2).
– Place instrument on standard.
– Click on Measure (3) or press Operate button.
– Standard is measured and automatically saved.
– Scroll down to see data table and statistics.
– When number of readings is reached (4), proceed
with Next (5).
– Place instrument on 1st sample and click on Mea-
sure or press Operate button.
– Sample is measured and automatically saved. Pro-
ceed with next sample (6).
– To end Difference mode select End test series
from context menu (7).

6 Absolute Measurement
Take measurements without comparison to a standard.
Results are automatically saved.
Click on icon Absolute.
– Place instrument on 1st sample.
– Click on Measure or press Operate button.
– Sample is measured and automatically saved.
– Scroll down to see data table and statistics.
– When number of readings per sample is reached,
proceed with next sample.
– To end Absolute mode select End test series from
the context menu.
