IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS

WARNING:To reduce the risk of serious injury, read the following important precau-

tions before using the elliptical exerciser.

1. Read all instructions in this manual and all

warnings on the elliptical exerciser before

using the elliptical exerciser.

2. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure

that all users of the elliptical exerciser are

adequately informed of all precautions.

3. The elliptical exerciser is intended for

home use only. Do not use the elliptical

exerciser in a commercial, rental, or institu-

tional setting.

4. Place the elliptical exerciser on a level sur-

face, with a mat beneath it to protect the

floor or carpet. Keep the elliptical exerciser

indoors, away from moisture and dust. Make

sure that there is enough clearance around

the elliptical exerciser to mount, dismount,

and use it.

5. Inspect and properly tighten all parts regu-

larly. Replace any worn parts immediately.

6. Keep children under 12 and pets away from

the elliptical exerciser at all times.

7. The elliptical exerciser should not be used

by persons weighing more than 115 kg (250

lbs).

8. Wear appropriate clothes while using the

elliptical exerciser. Always wear athletic

shoes for foot protection while exercising.

9. Hold the handgrip pulse sensor or the han-

dlebars when mounting, dismounting, or

using the elliptical exerciser.

10. The pulse sensor is not a medical device.

Various factors may affect the accuracy of

heart rate readings. The pulse sensor is

intended only as an exercise aid in determin-

ing heart rate trends in general.

11. Keep your back straight while using the ellip-

tical exerciser; do not arch your back.

12. If you feel pain or dizziness at any time

while exercising, stop immediately and cool

down.

13. When you stop exercising, allow the pedals

to slowly come to a complete stop. The ellip-

tical exerciser does not have a free wheel;

the pedals will continue to move until the

flywheel stops.

14. Always unplug the power cord immediately

after use and before cleaning the elliptical

exerciser.

15. The warning decals shown on page 4 have

been placed on the elliptical exerciser.If a

decal is missing or illegible, call the tele-

phone number on the front cover of this

manual and order a free replacement decal.

Apply the decal in the location shown.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Congratulations for selecting the new PROFORM®

820 PR elliptical exerciser. The PROFORM 820 PR is

an incredibly smooth exerciser that moves your feet in

anatural elliptical path, minimizing the impact on your

knees and ankles. And the unique PROFORM 820

PR features adjustable resistance and a state-of-the-

art console to help you get the most from your exer-

cise. Welcome to a whole new world of natural, ellipti-

cal-motion exercise from PROFORM.

For your benefit, read this manual carefully before

you use the elliptical exerciser. If you have ques-

tions after reading this manual, see the front cover of

this manual. To help us assist you, please note the

product model number and serial number before call-

ing. The model number is PFEVEL7985.0. The serial

number can be found on a decal attached to the ellipti-

cal exerciser (see the front cover of this manual for the

location of the decal).

Before reading further, please familiarize yourself with

the parts that are labeled in the drawing below.

ASSEMBLY

Assembly requires two persons. Place all parts of the elliptical exerciser in a cleared area and remove the

packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Assembly requires the

included hex keys and your own phillips screwdriver , adjustable spanner ,

and rubber mallet .

Refer to the drawings below to identify the small parts needed for assembly. The number in parentheses below

each drawing is the key number of the part, from the PART LIST on pages 24 and 25. The number following the

key number is the quantity needed for assembly. Note: Some small parts may have been pre-assembled. If a

part is not found in the parts bag, check to see if it has been pre-assembled.

2. While another person lifts the back of the Frame (1),

attach the Rear Stabilizer (4) to the Frame with two

M10 x 112mm Carriage Bolts (34) and two M10 Nylon

Locknuts (106).

3. Identify the Frame Axle (104), which is the longest

axle. Slide an M8 Washer (45) and a Ramp Cap (102)

onto an M8 x 19mm Patch Screw (108). Tighten the

Patch Screw into one end of the Frame Axle. Next,

apply a small amount of the included grease to the

Frame Axle.

Locate the two Frame Bushings (103) in the Frame (1).

Press a Ramp Shield (18) onto each Frame Bushing.

Next, align the indicated tubes on the Ramp (59) with

the Ramp Shields. Make sure that the Ramp is

turned as shown. Insert the Frame Axle (104) into the

Ramp, the Ramp Shields, and the Frame Bushings.

Note: It may be helpful to use a rubber mallet to insert

the Frame Axle.

Slide an M8 Washer (45) and a Ramp Cap (102) onto

an M8 x 19mm Patch Screw (108). Tighten the Patch

Screw into the other end of the Frame Axle (104).

4. Identify the Incline Axle (100), which is the longest

remaining axle. Slide an M6 Large Washer (94) onto

an M6 x 16mm Button Screw (109). Tighten the Button

Screw into one end of the Incline Axle. Next, apply a

small amount of grease to the Incline Axle.

Raise the Ramp (59). Insert the Incline Axle (100)

through one side of the Ramp, through a Ramp

Spacer (99), through the end of the Incline Motor (82),

through another Ramp Spacer (99), and then through

the other side of the Ramp.

Slide an M6 Large Washer (94) onto an M6 x 16mm

Button Screw (109). Tighten the Button Screw into the

other end of the Incline Axle (100).

1. Identify the Front Stabilizer (3). While another person

lifts the front of the Frame (1), attach the Front

Stabilizer to the Frame with two M10 x 112mm

Carriage Bolts (34) and two M10 Nylon Locknuts

(106). Make sure that the Front Stabilizer is turned

so the Wheels (32) are not touching the floor.

5. While another person holds the Upright (2) in the posi-

tion shown, connect the Upper Wire Harness (86) to

the Lower Wire Harness (87). Carefully pull the

upper end of the Upper Wire Harness to remove

any slack. While holding the Upper Wire Harness,

insert the Upright into the Frame (1). Do not pinch

the Wire Harnesses.

Slide an M10 Split Washer (70) and a Frame Spacer

(83) onto an M10 x 87mm Button Screw (63). Insert

the Button Screw into the Frame (1) and the Upright

(2). Make sure that the concave end of the Frame

Spacer is facing the Frame. Do not tighten the

Button Screw yet.

6. While another person holds the Console (5) in the

position shown, connect the wire harness on the

Console to the Upper Wire Harness (86). Insert the

excess wire harness into the Upright (2).

Attach the Console (5) to the Upright (2) with four M4

x16mm Screws (66). Be careful to avoid pinching

the wire harnesses.

7. Slide the Right Crank Arm (48) onto the four indicated

welded bolts; make sure that the Right Crank Arm is

in the indicated cutout in the Pedal Disk (8). Next,

finger tighten four M8 Jamnuts (127) onto the welded

bolts. Then, fully tighten one of the Jamnuts, and then

tighten the Jamnut farthest from the first Jamnut. Then,

tighten the remaining two Jamnuts.

Attach a Hub Cover (116) to the Right Crank Arm (48)

with four M8 x 25mm Patch Screws (22). Then, tighten

an Adjustment Knob (16) onto the right Latch Pin (119).

8. Apply a small amount of grease to the long side of a

Bolt Set (27). Hold a Handlebar Leg (79) and a Ramp

Wheel (29) inside of the bracket on the Left Pedal Arm

(14). Insert the long side of the Bolt Set, with a Pedal

Arm Cap (38) on it, through the Left Pedal Arm, the

Handlebar Leg, and the Ramp Wheel.

Tighten the short side of the Bolt Set (27), with a Pedal

Arm Cap (38) on it, into the long side of the Bolt Set.

Attach the other Handlebar Leg (not shown) and

Ramp Wheel (not shown) to the Right Pedal Arm (not

shown) in the same way.

11.

Attach the Water Bottle Holder (91) to the Upright

(2) with two M4 x 22mm Screws (93).

10.Apply a small amount of the included high-temperature

lubricant to a paper towel. Rub a thin film of the lubri-

cant onto the Handlebar Legs (79). Next, identify the

Left Handlebar (9) and the Right Handlebar (10), which

are marked with stickers. Slide the Left Handlebar onto

the left Handlebar Leg, and slide the Right Handlebar

onto the right Handlebar Leg. Make sure that the

Handlebars are on the correct sides.

Apply a generous amount of grease to the Pivot Axle

(88). Insert the Pivot Axle through the Right Handlebar

(10) and a Handlebar Spacer (25) as shown. Make

sure that the indicated arrow on the Handlebar Spacer

is pointed down. Next, insert the Pivot Axle into the

Upright (2) until the left end of the Pivot Axle is flush

with the left side of the Upright. Then, insert the Pivot

Axle through the other Handlebar Spacer (25) and the

Left Handlebar (9).

Slide an M8 Large Washer (53) onto each of the two

M8 x 25mm Patch Screws (22). Finger tighten the two

Patch Screws into the ends of the Pivot Axle (88).

Next, press the two Handlebar Caps (23) onto the two

Handlebar Spacers (25). Then, tighten both Patch

Screws at the same time.

Tighten the M10 x 87mm Button Screw (63).

9. Identify the Left Pedal Bracket (89). Attach the Left

Pedal Bracket to the Left Pedal Arm (14) with two M8

x53mm Button Screws (113). Next, identify the Left

Pedal (13). Attach the Left Pedal to the Left Pedal Arm

with an M8 x 50mm Button Screw (20), an M8 x 15mm

Button Screw (65), and two M8 Split Washers (126).

Attach the Right Pedal Bracket (not shown) and the

Right Pedal (not shown) to the Right Pedal Arm (not

shown) in the same way.

12.Make sure that the Power Cord (not shown) is fully

inserted into the Power Receptical (114). 12

13.Make sure that all parts of the elliptical exerciser

are properly tightened. Note: Some hardware may

be left over after assembly is completed. To protect

the floor or carpet from damage, place a mat under

the elliptical exerciser. 114

HOW TOUSE THE ELLIPTICAL EXERCISER

HOW TOPLUG IN THE POWER CORD

This product must be earthed. If it should malfunc-

tion or break down, earthing provides a path of least

resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of

electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord

having an equipment-earthing conductor and an earth-

ing plug. If the power cord is damaged, it must be

replaced with a manufacturer-recommended

power cord.

appropriate outlet

that is properly

installed and

earthed in accor-

dance with all local codes and ordinances. Note: In

Italy, an adaptor (not included) must be used

between the power cord and the outlet. Important:

The elliptical exerciser is not compatible with

GFCI-equipped outlets.

Note: When the power cord is plugged in, the ellip-

tical exerciser’s incline system may automatically

calibrate itself. During the calibration process, two

dashes (– –) will appear in the main display of the

console, and the ramp will move to the highest

position and then return to the lowest position.

The calibration process will last for one to two

minutes.

DANGER: Improper connection of

the equipment-earthing conductor can result

in an increased risk of electric shock. Check

with a qualified electrician or serviceman if

you are in doubt as to whether the product is

properly earthed. Do not modify the plug pro-

vided with the product—if it will not fit the out-

let, have a proper outlet installed by a quali-

fied electrician.

HOW TO EXERCISE ON THE ELLIPTICAL

EXERCISER

To mount the elliptical exerciser, hold the handlebars

and step onto the pedal that is in the lowest position.

Then, step onto the other pedal. Push the pedals until

they begin to move with a continuous motion. Note:

The pedal disks can turn in either direction. It is

recommended that you turn the pedal disks in the

direction shown by the arrow below; however, for

variety, you can turn the pedal disks in the oppo-

site direction.

To dismount the elliptical exerciser, wait until the ped-

als come to a complete stop. Note: The elliptical

exerciser does not have a free wheel; the pedals

will continue to move until the flywheel stops.

When the pedals are stationary,step off the highest

pedal first. Then, step offthe lowest pedal.

HOW TO ADJUST THE STRIDE OF THE ELLIPTICAL

EXERCISER

To adjust the stride of the elliptical exerciser, first pull

one of the adjustment knobs until the adjustment

bracket can be pivoted freely. Pivot the adjustment

bracket until the adjustment knob is aligned with either

of the indicated holes in the crank arm, and then gen-

tly release the knob. Pivot the adjustment bracket

back and forth slightly to make sure that the latch pin

is engaged in one of the holes. Adjust the other side of

the elliptical exerciser in the same way.
