Nexus® 1262/1272 Socket Meter Quick Start
Hardware Installation:
The Nexus® 1262/1272 Socket meter can be mounted outside or in an enclosed and protected environment, such as in a
switchgear cabinet.
• Examinethelabelstoverifythatthemeteryouareinstallingis,infact,thecorrectformfactorandservicetype.
Make sure that the socket and meter current class ratings are compatible.
• Makesurethatallcommunicationandauxiliarypowerwiringisaccessibleincasedisconnectionisrequiredfor
anyreason.
• Beforeapplyingpowertothemeter,installbatteriesifnotinstalledatthefactoryandchecktheconnectionsifthey
areinstalled.POWERMUSTBEOFFTOINSTALLTHEINTERNALBATTERY!ToinstalltheInternal
Battery,removetheInternalShroudandplacethebatteryintothebatterycompartmentwiththe+facingUP.
ReplacetheInternalShroud.ToinstalltheModemBattery,withtheOuterShroudonthemeter,locatethebattery
cableatthebackofthemeterandinsertthecableconnectorintothecable.Usethevelcro(peelandstick)to
attachthebatterysomewhereoutsideofthemeter.
• Makesurethatanycommunicationswiringfromthebackofthemeterisfedthroughtheappropriateopeningsin
yoursockettoallowforcleanconnectionswithexternaldevices.
• Insertthemeterintothesocket,makingsurethattheunitbladesarermlywithinthejawsofthesocket.
• Connectexternaldevicestotheappropriatecommunicationswiring,asshownbelow.
• Makesurethemeterisfunctioningproperlybyrunningitthroughatestcircuit.

Programming the Meter through CommunicatorPQA Software:
1. UsingtheenclosedCD,installCommunicatorPQAsoftwareonyourPC or
laptop.
2. FromtheCommunicatorPQAMainscreen,clicktheConnect icon in the
Iconbaratthetopofthescreen.
3. YouwillseetheConnectscreen,shownontheright.
NOTE:ThesettingsontherightareforaSerialconnectionusingRS485.
ToconnectusingtheOpticalport:settheBaudRateto9600;connectthe
optical readeratoneendtothemeter’sOpticalPort;andattheotherend
connect to aPC’sRS232Serialport(9-or25-pin).Forinstructionson
conguring a connectionusingtheNetwork(INP200or INP202)options,
seethe Software User Manualon the EIG website: www.electroind.com.
4. ClickConnect.Thesoftwarewillconnecttothemeter.
5. ClicktheProleiconintheIconbaratthetopofthescreen.TheDevice
Prolescreenopens.Seethescreenshownontheright.

Uploading a Device Prole and Naming the Meter
TouploadapreviouslysavedDeviceproletothemeter:
1. FromtheCommunicatorPQAMainscreen,clicktheDevice Prole
icon.
2. TheDeviceProlescreenopens.ClicktheLoad button at the bottom
ofthescreen.
3. AwindowopensshowingyouanysavedDeviceProles(these
are .npsles).
SelecttheproleyouwanttoloadandclickOpen.
4. ThesavedDeviceproleisloadedintoCommunicatorPQA software.
5. Togivethemeterauniquename,clickGeneral Settings>Labels.
6. Youwillseethesub-menushownontheright.
ClickMeter DesignationtoopentheLabelsscreen.
7. TheLabelsscreenisshownbelow,ontheright.Enterauniquename
fortheconnectedmeterintheMeterDesignationeldandthenclick
OK.
8. YoucannowclicktheUpdate DevicebuttonintheDeviceProle
screentouploadthisDeviceproletotheconnectedmeter.
