Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the MTP-1014 digital light meter. If used correctly and in
accordance with this instruction manual, this meter will provide years of reliable service.
1. Features
Easy to use, pocket size and light weight
3 ½ digital LCD display with lux, fc, LOBAT, MAX indication
Accurately displays light level in terms of Foot Candles (fc) or Lux over a wide range
Measures from 0 to 40000 lux/fc in four ranges with resolution of 0.1 lux/fc

3. Panel description
1. Photodetector
Long life silicon photodiode inside the meter.
2. MAX and lux/fc function button
Press this button briefly, the max reading will be displayed. Pressing it once again will
release the hold function and allow another measurement. Pressing this function button
for 2 seconds will change the display between lux and fc measurement units.
3. Power button
Press this button to turn the meter on or off.
4. LCD backlight control
The meter is sensitive to environment light intensity. If the environment is dark, it will
turn the LCD backlight on automatically. Otherwise, it will turn off the LCD backlight.
5. Auto-ranging
x 10 means the meter is in range 20K lux and the readings should multiplied by 10; x 100
means the meter is in range 40K lux and the readings should be multiplied by 100.

4. Operating instructions
1) Press the power button to start normal measurement.
2) Remove the photodetector cap and place the meter towards a light source in a horizontal
position.
3) Read the illuminance value on the LCD display. If the environment is dark, the backlight
will automatically turn on.
4) The measurement range will change automatically with the light intensity. It includes
200.0 lux, 2000 lux, 20 Klux and 40 Klux (4 ranges for lux) or 20.0 fc, 200 fc, 2000 fc,
4000 fc (4 ranges for fc).
5) Press the function button (MAX lux/fc) for about 2 seconds to change the unit between lux
and fc.
6) Press the function button briefly to change to the Max Hold function. Press once again to
release the hold function and allow another measurement.
7) Over-range: if the instrument displays "OL" in LCD display, the input signal is too
strong.
8) Spectral characteristics of sensibility: the photodiode with filter applied to the spectral
sensitivity does meet CIE (International Commission on Illumination) photopia curve V
(λ) as the following chart describes.

5. Battery replacement
If the battery icon

appears on the LCD display, it indicates that the battery should be
replaced. Open the battery case and replace the expired battery with a new battery ( 1 x 9V
battery).

MTP Instruments warrants this instrument to be free of defects in parts and workmanship for
one (1) year from date of shipment. This warranty does not apply to defects resulting from
action of the user such as misuse, improper wiring, operation outside of specifications, improper
maintenance or repair, or unauthorized modifications. MTP Instruments specifically disclaims
any implied warranties or merchantability or fitness for a specific purpose and will not be held
liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages. MTP Instruments total
liability is limited to repair or replacement of the product.
