Informationen zum Vorbild

Die Idee hinter der Konstruktion der italienischen Konstruk-

teure Franco und Crosti ist bestechend.Warum soll man die

in den Rauchgasen der Lokomotive steckende thermische

Energie nicht zum Heizen des Speisewassers nutzen? Hierzu

wird die Lokomotive mit einem sogenannten Speisevorwär-

mer ausgerüstet, in dem dieser Wärmeaustausch stattﬁndet.

Zur praktischen Überprüfung dieser Idee wurden von

der Deutschen Bundesbahn in den fünfziger Jahren zwei

neugebaute Modelle der Baureihe 52 zur Baureihe 42.90

umgebaut.

Eine erhebliche Verringerung des Brennstoffbedarfs konnte

auch in der Praxis nachgewiesen werden. Durch die hohe

Korrosionsanfälligkeit des Speisevorwärmers wurde dieser

Vorteil jedoch in den Gesamt-Betriebskosten wieder zum

Großteil zunichte gemacht.

Information about the Prototype

The idea behind the design from the Italian engineer’s

Franco and Crosti is fascinating. Why shouldn’t the thermal

energy contained in the exhaust gases from the locomotive

be used to heat the water fed into the boiler?

The locomotive is equipped for this purpose with a so-called

feedwater heater in which the heat exchange takes place.

Two newly built class 52 models were converted by the

German Federal Railroad to the class 42.90 as a practical

test of this idea.

In practice there was a considerable reduction in the

consumption of fuel. The high incidence of corrosion in the

feedwater heater, however, negated this advantage in the

total operating costs.

L‘idée sous-jacente à la réalisation des constructeurs

italiens Franco et Crosti est séduisante. Pourquoi ne pas

utiliser l‘énergie thermique résiduelle contenue dans la

vapeur d‘échappement de la locomotive pour chauffer

l‘eau d‘alimentation de la chaudière? Pour y arriver, il sufﬁt

d‘équiper la machine de réchauffeurs permettant la récupé-

ration de la chaleur latente.

Pour vériﬁer le bien-fondé de cette idée, la Deutsche

Bundesbahn a modiﬁé dans les années cinquante deux

locomotives de la série 52 et les a renumérotées dans la

série 42.90.

On escomptait par ailleurs démontrer de façon pratique une

réduction considérable de la consommation en combustible.

Cet avantage fut néanmoins réduit à néant par la trop gran-

de sensibilité à la corrosion des réchauffeurs, ce qui greva

lourdement les coûts d‘exploitation.

Het idee achter de constructie van de Italiaanse con-

structeurs Franco en Crosti sprak zeer tot de verbeelding.

Waarom zou men de in de rookgassen van de locomotief

resterende thermische energie niet voor het verwarmen van

het voedingswater gebruiken? Hiertoe wordt de locomotief

met een zogenaamde voedingswatervoorverwarmer uitge-

rust, waarin de warmtewisseling plaatsvindt.

Voor de praktische proef van dit idee werden door de Deut-

sche Bundesbahn in de jaren vijftig twee nieuwgebouwde

modellen van de serie 52 tot serie 42.90 omgebouwd.

Een aanzienlijke vermindering van het verbruik van brand-

stof kon ook in de praktijk aangetoond worden. Doordat de

voorverwarmer zo gemakkelijk roestte, werd dit voordeel

in de totale bedrijfskosten weer voor het grootste deel

tenietgedaan.
