for HP i2000 Workstation Systems

Products Affected:

All HP i2000 Workstations that use C0 step Itanium™ processors.

Description:

When installing 64-bit Microsoft©Windows XP©, these instructions should be followed for proper operating

system installation and system functionality. NOTE: Windows XP must ﬁrst be installed on the system.

Instructions:

Using Windows CONFIGFLAG Setting (nvrboot utility)

Boot Option settings are stored in nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM). There is a program for setting nonvolatile

RAM named

nvrboot.eﬁ

Boot to the EFI prompt. In the EFI partition of the boot disk, cd to the MSUtil directory. Run nvrboot, and

the screen will appear as indicated below:

Note:

In the example below, lines 2 to 5 may look different or may not be present. Option 7 (Boot

Options) will always be present. In case the EFI option is not present, Boot Options can be used to add

it. Windows Boot Option will be added automatically during OS installation.

letters are system prompts and underlined italics are user responses.

There are cases when you may want to turn on kernel debugging. This is also achieved by setting the

OsLoadOptions. In this case, care should be taken so that the Conﬁgﬂag option is the last command in the

string.

After you quit from nvrboot, you will be in EFI prompt. Type ‘exit’ and press return. This will take you back to

the Boot Options menu. Select ‘Boot Options Maintenance Menu’ and once inside, simply exit. This will

read back the changes made using the nvrboot program.

Once the changes are made, they will be retained across boots, power-off etc. However, when a fresh OS

installation is done, the above procedure will have to be repeated, as OS installation will introduce a new

Windows Boot Option.
