Precautionary labels
Read all labels and tags attached to the instrument. Personal injury or damage to the instrument
could occur if not observed. A symbol on the instrument is referenced in the manual with a
precautionary statement.
This is the safety alert symbol. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid potential
injury. If on the instrument, refer to the instruction manual for operation or safety information.
This symbol indicates that the marked item requires a protective earth connection. If not provided with
a plug on a cord, connect positive earth to this terminal (U.S. cord set provides ground).
This symbol indicates the presence of devices sensitive to Electro-static Discharge (ESD) and
indicated that care must be taken to prevent damage with the equipment.
This symbol indicates that a risk of explosion is present.
This symbol identifies a risk of chemical harm and indicates that only individuals qualified and trained
to work with chemicals should handle chemicals or perform maintenance on chemical delivery
systems associated with the equipment.
This symbol indicates the need for protective eye wear.
This symbol indicates that the object is heavy.
Electrical equipment marked with this symbol may not be disposed of in European public disposal
systems after 12 August of 2005. In conformity with European local and national regulations (EU
Directive 2002/96/EC), European electrical equipment users must now return old or end-of-life
equipment to the Producer for disposal at no charge to the user.
Note: For return for recycling, please contact the equipment producer or supplier for instructions on how to return end-
of-life equipment, producer-supplied electrical accessories, and all auxiliary items for proper disposal.
Product overview
The 1735 TRO is designed to meet ATEX Zone 1 requirements. When the instrument is installed as
shown in the provided compliance drawing, it is appropriate for use in Zone 1 hazardous locations.
Installation
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. Trained personnel only must install or commission the equipment.
This document includes the installation information for hazardous locations. For installation,
operation and replacement part/accessory information for non-hazardous locations, refer to the
1735 TRO Analyzer User Manual.
4 English

Hazardous location installation
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. Any installation or configuration that is not specifically shown on the control
drawings is not allowed. In all cases, the local authority with jurisdiction will make the final installation
decision.
This instrument is listed as intrinsically safe for Zone 1, Group IIC hazardous locations. Circuits within
the instrument cannot produce a spark or thermal effect that could ignite a mixture of flammable or
combustible gases. It does not mean that the instrument is explosion-proof. If all safety precautions
are not obeyed, or if the equipment is not installed correctly, there is a potential for explosion. Be
sure to review all safety precautions and installation instructions throughout this manual before
installation.
Intrinsically safe installation requirements
Installation of this equipment must obey local electrical code requirements as shown in the
hazardous location control drawings. Installation is subject to final approval by the authority that has
jurisdiction.
Hazardous location control drawings
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. Do not connect or disconnect electrical components or circuits to the equipment
unless power has been removed or the area is known to be non-hazardous.
Obey the control drawings provided. Refer to Figure 2 on page 8. Obey all codes and regulations
for connection to the instrument in a hazardous location.
Install the instrument
WARNING
Explosion hazard. In hazardous locations, friction between surfaces can generate sparks that can
cause an explosion. Make sure that no friction is possible between the instrument and any surrounding
surfaces.
WARNING
Unused cable glands must be plugged. Use 9-mm plugs for small glands and 15-mm plugs for large
glands.
For hazardous locations, an acceptable associated apparatus must be installed outside of the
hazardous area.
For analyzer installation, refer to the 1735 TRO Analyzer User Manual.
Electrical installation
Electrical installation in a hazardous location
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. Connect the instrument only to intrinsically safe associated apparatus that provides galvanic
isolation.
For installation in hazardous locations, install the associated apparatus with the appropriate entity
parameters between the instrument and any external circuit.
Electrical connections
Figure 1 shows the electrical connections.
English 5

Figure 1 Electrical connections at the instrument
Install the associated apparatus
An associated apparatus limits the power parameters to the device that is located in the hazardous
area.
1. Install the associated apparatus in a non-hazardous environment.
2. Obey all requirements in the control drawings. Obey all codes and regulations for connection to
the instrument in a hazardous location. Refer to Figure 2 on page 8.
Intrinsic safety entity concept
This instrument is approved for installation under the intrinsic safety entity concept. The entity
concept specifies:
• The maximum amount of energy available from each output
• The maximum amount of energy tolerable at each input for instrument safety
6 English

This allows the connection of equipment in an intrinsically safe manner, even when the equipment is
not tested together. No additional certification testing is needed if each piece of equipment is
approved with entity parameters and all safety requirements are met.
All equipment connected to the instrument must have entity parameters that meet the requirements
shown on the control drawings. Be sure to include the parameters of all cables and connections.
The information on the control drawings gives directions for a safe installation. Installation reference
drawings that show suggested connections for specific installations may be provided upon request.
In no way are any such drawings to supersede the approved control drawings of the instrument and
any connected equipment. Obey all safety requirements of the control drawing before the
requirements of additional installation reference drawings.
Approved installation drawings
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. Any installation or configuration that is not specifically shown on the control
drawings is not allowed. In all cases, the local authority with jurisdiction will make the final installation
decision.
Figure 2 is the approved control drawing. The certified drawing shows the ONLY approved method or
methods for installation for the instrument.

Maintenance
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. A hot work permit is required to open the upper IP64 enclosure. The lower IP20 enclosure can
be opened for routine maintenance without a hot work permit.
D A N G E R
Explosion hazard. The instrument contains no user-serviceable parts other than the reagent bottles and tubing.
For analyzer maintenance, refer to the 1735 TRO Analyzer User Manual.
