INTRODUCTION
This device is designed for quick-response detection of moisture in
buildings, on building sites etc.
The MC-500 allows moisture detections in wood down to a depth of
approximately 30 to 40 mm. It is even able to detect moisture behind
ceramic tiles or behind and under various floor or wall coverings! Simply
place device on top of the surface to be examined – no injection into the
object required!
MEASURE AND OPERATION
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the MC-500 lightly on the surface or slide it across larger
areas to detect any presence of moisture.
When examining wood, make sure that measurements are carried
out in accordance with its fibre direction – otherwise the values
achieved will be too low. For the measuring direction to be correct
the wood fibre direction must be parallel to the indication (see
below).
2. The instrument shows the amount of
moist in proportion to the moisture
content in the material. The result is
relative; the difference between dry
and wet material is indicated and the
result should not be treated as the
exact moist content in terms of weight.
The value indicated has to be evaluated depending on the material:

sure to use varnishes allowing for moisture in the
ground material.
6 - 11 20 - 30% Wind dry, finishing treatment is only possible
using agents with a high moisture permeability.
Whenever several layer are to be applied we
recommendtoconsiderdryingintervals.
> 11 > 30% Wet, finishing is only possible with a paint system
especially suitable for wet wood.
The MC-500 allows moisture detection in wood and buidling material down
to a depth of approx. 30 - 40 mm.

3. The moisture indicator reacts to metal in the same way as it does
to humidity. In case there is a nail, a cable, an armouring or another
metal object to be found in the material to be examined within the
radiation area (plate on back side of device) the value indicator will
be too high and correct value cannot be obtained.
4. The moisture indicator MC-500 is not a high-precision measuring
device. We shall not assume any liability for potential damage
resulting from incorrect use of the indicator or from the fact that the
indicator has been used as a measuring device. For more accurate
measurements of wood and building material it is recommended to
use Exotek Instruments MC-60CPA, MC-160SA or MC-380XCA.
5. As soon as “BAT” is displayed this is an indication that the battery
has been used up and needs to be exchanged. Too low operating
voltage may result in an inaccurate value.
Please note: If the battery voltage falls even lower, the voltage may
no be sufficient for “BAT” to be displayed so that there will be no
“BAT” indication although the battery has been used up.
We recommend to make it a rule to always check the battery if the
values indicated seem to be completely out of range.
6. Handle the device carefully and use in accordance with above
mentioned specifications only.

SAFETY REGULATIONS
This device has been designed and tested in accordance with the
safety regulations for electronic devices. However, its trouble-free
operation and reliability cannot be guaranteed unless the standard
safety measures and special safety advices given in this manual will be
followed when using the device.
1. Trouble-free operation and reliability of the device can only be
guaranteed if the device is not subjected to any other climatic
conditions than those stated under “Technical Specifications”.
2. If the device is transported from a cold to a warm environment
condensation may result in a failure of the device. In such a case
make sure the device temperature has adjusted to the ambient
temperature before starting a new start-up.
Operator safety may be at risk if:
- there is visible damage to the device
- the device is not working as specified
- the device has been stored under unsuitable conditions for a longer
time
In case of doubt, please return device to manufacturer for repair or
maintenance.
ZERO ADJUSTMENT
The indicator can be zero adjusted using a small screwdriver.
Hold the indicator up in the air and away from any material. Ensure
that your hand is dry.
If the meter indicates anything other than ”- 0.00” adjust the
potentiometer on the top of the indicator.

EINLEITUNG
Dieses Gerät ist für die schnelle Erkennung von Feuchtigkeiten in
Gebäuden konzipiert, auf Baustellen usw.
Das MC-500 erkennt Feuchtigkeiten in Holz oder Baustoffen bis zu
einer Tiefe von etwa 30 bis 40 mm. Es ist in der Lage, Feuchtigkeiten
hinter keramischen Fliesen oder unter verschiedenen Boden- oder
Wandbelägen erkennen! Einfach das Gerät auf die zu untersuchende
Oberfläche auflegen - kein Einstechen in das Objekt erforderlich!
BEDIENUNGSANLEITUNG
1. Legen Sie das MC-500 auf eine Oberfläche oder schieben Sie es
über größere Flächen, um möglicheAnwesenheit von Feuchte zu
erkennen.
Bei Holz muß man die Messung in Faserrichtung ausführen. Eine
Messung quer zur Faserrichtung liefert einen geringeren Wert!
Die Meßrichtung ist dann richtig wenn die Faserrichtung parallel zur
Anzeige (von links nach rechts) verläuft.
2. Das Gerät zeigt die Menge der Feuchte
proportional zum Feuchtigkeitsgehalt
des Materials. Das Ergebnis ist relativ.
Der angezeigte Unterschied zwischen
trockenem und feuchtem Material sollte
nicht als Wassergehalt in
Gewichtsprozent behandelt werden.
Der in derAnzeige angezeigte Wert interpretiert sich in der
Abhängigkeit des gemessenen Materials:

Schichtenempfiehlt sich eine Trockenzeit.
> 11 > 30% Nass, eine Bearbeitung kann prinzipiell nur mit
einemFarb/LackSystem stattfinden, das sich für
nasses Holz eignet.
Das Gerät mißt die Feuchtigkeit von Holz und Baustoffen
bis zu einer Tiefe von ca. 3 bis 4 cm.

3. Der Feuchte-Indikator reagiert auf Metall genauso wie auf
Feuchtigkeit. Falls sich in dem zu untersuchenden Material im
Bereich des Strahlungsgebietes (Meßplatte auf Geräterückseite)
z.B. ein Nagel, eineArmierung oder ein anderer metallischer
Gegenstand befindet, zeigt der Indikator einen zu hohen Wert an!
Eine richtigeAnzeige ist dann nicht möglich.
4. Der Feuchte-Indikator MC-500 ist kein Meßinstrument, und kann
auch nicht als ein solches verwendet werden. Wir übernehmen
daher keinerlei Haftung für eventuelle Schäden, die dadurch
entstehen können, daß der Indikator nicht richtig verwendet
oder als Meßinstrument interpretiert wurde. Für genauere
Feuchtemessungen in Holz oder am Bau oder Verpackungsindustrie
sind die Feuchtemeßgeräte MC-60CPA, MC-160SA or MC-380XCA
geeigneter.
5. Erscheint in derAnzeige „BAT“, so ist die Batterie verbraucht und
muß erneuert werden, da es bei zu geringer Betriebsspannung zu
Fehlmessungen kommt.
Hinweis: Sinkt die Batteriespannung noch weiter ab, so kann es
vorkommen, daß die Spannung für dieAnzeige von „BAT“ nicht
mehr ausreicht und somit trotz verbrauchter Batterie dieAnzeige
„BAT“ nicht aufleuchtet.
Es sollte deshalb immer, wenn dieAnzeige scheinbar unsinnige
Werte anzeigt, die Batterie überprüft werden.
6. Bei Lagerung über 50°C muß die Batterie entnommen werden.
Bei Lagerung über längere Zeit wird empfohlen die Batterie aus dem
Gerät zu nehmen.
7. Das Gerät muß pfleglich behandelt werden und gemäß den
vorstehenden technischen Daten eingesetzt werden (nicht werfen,
aufschlagen, etc.).
