M.A.Ch.10/100 Diagnostic Analyzer 09/00 7
Introduction
The M.A.Ch.10/100™ Diagnostic Analyzer is a robust troubleshooting tool for maintaining
and managing Moves, Adds, and Changes (MACs) on 10 and 100 MBPS Ethernet
Networks. The M.A.Ch.10/100 runs on a laptop or desktop with Windows95/98. This
Diagnostic Analyzer is also the first product of its kind that can extend the capabilities of
Handheld Personal Computers (H/PC) running the WindowsCEoperating system version
2.0 and 3.0.
The M.A.Ch.10/100 analyzes the network with toolboxes containing tests specific to
troubleshooting TCP/IP, NTand NetWare. The M.A.Ch.10/100 tests both the physical
cabling and upper layers of the network infrastructure. Data is graphically displayed with the
use of charts, graphs and drawings, which simplify the interpretation of results.
M.A.Ch.10/100 Features
The M.A.Ch.10/100 is a tool for diagnosing problems on your network. It can determine key
network parameters such as MAC Address, Network Protocols, IP Address, Network Name,
and Protocol Parameters (like Subnet Mask).
You can use the M.A.Ch.10/100 wire map and cable test capabilities to find problems in the
wiring infrastructure (Channel Link), local loop back cable, or patch cables. The cable
features can determine wire map errors, over length cables, and can detect shorts or opens on
the cable. These measurements are not for certification, but are excellent for troubleshooting.
Other physical level diagnostic features include the Cable Toner and Port Identifier. The
Cable Toner feature can be used with a Tone Probe for finding cables hidden in walls, or for
locating the correct cable in bundle. The Port Identifier function will blink the Link Test
Pulse (LTP) light on the hub or NIC; quickly identifying which port the unit is plugged into.
Hub and NIC tests can determine the proper operation and capabilities of the network device
(i.e. 10, 100, 10/100Mbps, full/half duplex).
One main feature of the M.A.Ch.10/100 is the ability to capture and store information about
the current site. All site information (including discovered data and configuration settings) is
stored on the platform for reuse. This information is constantly updated, as your networking
needs change. This feature eliminates the need to keep notebooks of data and changes for
each location you maintain. All site configuration data may be archived onto your
workstation, laptop or PCMCIA memory cards (H/PC devices) for extended protection and
security. It is recommended that Windows CE users keep their site data on memory cards to
reduce the amount of memory space used in the Windows CE device.
Field data can be emailed back to the home office, or reviewed at a later time for future
planning, group discussion, or review by colleagues. Graphical data can be extracted and
used for generating reports and presentations.
Additional features include a common interface for laptop, workstation, or Windows CE
H/PC use. You only need to learn the tools once. Also, if you are familiar with Microsoft
Windows products, you already know how to drive the M.A.Ch.10/100.
