Introduction

SHORT

WAVE

(SW)

Your

world

receiver

can

receive

number

wavebands.

Most

these

are

known

and

tuning

the

required

station

will

soon

become

matter

routine,

the

stations

are

always

found

the

same

place

the

dial

and

are

thus

tied

fixed

wavelength

and

frequency.

With

short

wave

this

unfortunately

not

always

the

case.

Short-wave

transmitters

have

change

their

wavelengths

fairly

often.

the

short-

wave

range

between

and

100-metre

wavelength

(frequencies

30-

MHz

resp.)

nine

bands

between

and

metres

are

allocated

short-wave

broadcasting,

with

another

four

bands

between

and 120

metres

for

broadcasting

the

earth's

tropical

areas.

The

latter

are

roughly

located

between

the

latitudes

30º

north

and

30º

south,

i.e.

“around

the

equator.

Most

short-wave

broadcasting

bands,

indicated

the

frequency

range

table,

are

allocated

for

the

whole

world

and

can

used

for

international

broadcasting.

They

are

far

the

only

wavelengths

which

allow

direct

radio

reception

over

long

distances.

addition

the

broadcasting

services,

there

large

number

other

users

short

wave,

for

example

radio

amateurs,

shipping

and

aviation,

radio

navigation

etc.

TROPICAL

BAND

(TB)

Some

versions

are

equipped

with

tropical

band

TB.

The

(tropical

band,

120

metres)

part

the

short-wave

band

and

used

for

broadcasts

tropical

areas.

TIME

ZONES

The

earth

rotates

around

its

axis

hours

and

around

the

sun

one

year.

These

movements

are

responsible

for

the

time

differences

and

the

seasons

earth.

Due

the

direction

rotation

the

earth

always

earlier

the

day

the

west

where

you

are

and

later

the

day

the

east

where

you

are.

The

earth

divided

into

time

zones

with

difference

one

hour

between

adjacent

zones.

The

system

based

one

standard

time

zone,

namely

UTC

(Coordinated

Universal

Time),

previously

GMT

(Greenwich

Mean

Time).

Generally

speaking,

short-wave

stations

announce

their

broadcasts

UTC.
