Congratulations!
Congratulations on your purchase of the Lionel Command Control Gantry Crane! The
Gantry Crane is compatible with Legacy Cab-2 or Cab-1L, or with TMCC Cab-1 remotes.
Add sounds synchronized to the actions of the Gantry Crane with the Crane Sounds Work
House (6-82035, sold separately).

Preparing the Gantry Crane for operation
When you are ready to store your Gantry Crane, be sure to use the supplied elastic band to keep
tension on the hook line. Use your remote to position the boom to fit in the foam cavity.
Note Always keep light tension on the hook when handling the Gantry Crane.

Powering Your Gantry Crane
Your Gantry Crane is powered using track power. The Gantry Crane requires a special
track section for gantry unit motion available from other manufacturers (not included).
This track section has three rails in the middle for regular train operation, and two rails on
the outsides meant for Gantry Crane operation. Track positive connects to one of these rails,
and track negative to the other. The crane is reversible, so which rail is positive and which is
negative does not matter. See Figure 1 below for more information.

Note Your Gantry Crane is factory programmed with an Engine ID# of “1.” To change
the ID#, see page 5.

As your fleet of LEGACY or TMCC equipped locomotives and equipment grows, you will want to
assign each unit a unique ID#. Use your CAB-1, CAB-1L, or CAB-2 Remote Controller.
1. Turn off power to the Gantry Crane.
2. Make sure that the Command Base is plugged in, then power up the crane.
3. Slide the RUN/PROGRAM switch to the PROGRAM position. Refer to Figure 3.
4. Press ENG or ACC.
5. Enter the ID# for the Gantry Crane using the numeric keypad on the Remote Controller.
Select any number between 1 and 98.
6. Press SET.
7. Slide the RUN/PROGRAM switch to the RUN position.
At this point, the new ID# has been set. When you power up, be sure to address the Gantry
Crane using the new ID#.

When using the Legacy system the CAB-2 MUST be set to CAB-1 mode.
The crane will not respond to Legacy mode commands.
When using the CAB-1 or CAB-1L, the crane MUST be programmed as an
engine. The crane may be programmed as an accessory or an engine when
using a CAB-2.

To operate the crane, you will need to use a Command Base and Remote Controller (LEGACY
CAB-2, CAB-1L, or CAB-1; all available separately).
Operating the Gantry Crane
Press ENG and 1 on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or CAB-2 controller to select the Cab motor.
Rotate the THROTTLE knob clockwise on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or
CAB-2 controller to rotate the cab clockwise.
Rotate the THROTTLE knob counter-clockwise on the CAB-1, CAB-
1L, or CAB-2 controller to rotate the cab counter-clockwise.

The speed of the rotation of the boom is determined by
how fast the THROTTLE knob is rotated.

Press 2 on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or CAB-2 controller to select the Roll motor.
Rotate the THROTTLE knob clockwise on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or
CAB-2 controller to make the Gantry Crane roll forward.
Rotate the THROTTLE knob counter-clockwise on the CAB-1, CAB-
1L, or CAB-2 controller to make the Gantry Crane roll backwards.

The speed that the crane rolls on the track is determined by how fast
the THROTTLE knob is rotated.
Pressing the DIR key on the CAB-1 or CAB-1L, or pressing down on
the BOOST/BRAKE button on the CAB-2 controller will reverse the
operation of the THROTTLE knob so that clockwise will move the
crane backwards and counter-clockwise will move the crane forward.
This allows the user to set it up so the control is intuitive based on
which side of the crane they are on. Setting is not retained when
power is turned off.

Your Gantry Crane’s hook and electromagnet are capable of lifting approximately 4 oz (1/4
lb). The electromagnet automatically turns off after 60 seconds. The electromagnet cannot be
turned on again for 8 seconds.

The hook can be raised or lowered while the boom is being rotated or
while the crane is rolling.
Note!
Press the AUX2 key on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or CAB-2 controller to toggle the Magnet
ON. If the magnet is left on it will turn off automatically after 60 seconds.
Press the AUX2 key again on the CAB-1, CAB-1L, or CAB-2 controller to toggle the
Magnet OFF. After the magnet is turned OFF it cannot be turned back on until it
has been off for 8 seconds.

The LEGACY CAB-2 Remote Controller

You can operate the hook while the cab is rotating or while the crane is moving.
We recommend that you keep a light weight on the hook for optimal performance.
The electromagnet will automatically turn off after 60 seconds. You must wait 8 seconds

Do not allow the hook to go all the way down and then start to ascend again. If you
notice that the hook begins to ascend when it reaches its lowest point, press and hold
the BOOST button immediately to avoid reversing the controls.

CAB-1 & CAB-1L Remote Controller commands
Use your CAB-1 Remote Controller to operate the Gantry Crane.
Sets the throttle knob to rotate the cab.
Sets the throttle knob to control the roll
motion of the crane.
Lowers the hook on the crane.
Raises the hook on the crane.
Turns on the magnet.
Moves the crane back and forth along the gantry
track or rotates the cab.
Do not allow the hook to go all the way down and then
start to ascend again. If you notice that the hook begins to
ascend when it reaches its lowest point, press and hold the
BOOST button (up arrow) immediately to avoid reversing
the controls.
