The
IBM
All
Points Addressable Adapter, hereafter referred
to
as
the
AP
A A dapfer, can be installed only in
the
IBM
3270
Personal
Computer
system unit.

Medium-sized, flat-blade screwdriver

1. Set
the
On/Off
(I/O)
switch
on
the
system
unit
(and
on
the
color
display,
if
attached)
to
the
Off
position
(0).

If
you
have a
printer
(or
any
other
externally
attached
device), set
the
On/Off
switch(es)
to
Off.
3. Unplug
the
system
unit
power
cord from
the
power
out-
let.
(If
you
have
the
3270
color
display, unplug its
power
cord also.)

4. Move
your
keyboard and all external options away from
the
work area.
5. Position the system unit
to
allow access
to
the
rear.
6. Using a flat-blade screwdriver
or
a 1/4-inch nutdriver,
remove the cover
mounting
screws by turning
them
counterclockwise
as
shown in the figure below. Save
the screws for the installation
of
the cover.

7. Carefully slide
the
unit cover away from
the
rear and
to
the front
as
indicated in
the
figure below. When
the
cover will
go
no further, tilt
it
up, remove
it
from
the
base, and set
it
aside.

Look
at
the
back
of
the
system
unit
and locate
the
dis-
play card.
The
display card retaining
bracket
is
stamped
for ease
of
identification (see below).
9.
Look
at
the
inside
of
your
unit.
The
APA
Adapter
must
be installed in a long slot directly adjacent
to
the
display
card.

10.Using a flat-blade screwdriver
or
a
3/
16-inch nutdriver,
remove
the
screw
that
holds the expansion slot cover in
place
by
turning
the
screw counterclockwise. Save the
screw for the installation
of
the adapter card.
