1. General information
■
The bimetal thermometers described in these operating instructions
have been designed and manufactured using state-of-the-art techno-
logy. All components are subject to stringent quality and environmen-
tal criteria during production. Our management systems are certied
to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
■
These operating instructions contain important information on
handling the instrument.Working safely requires that all safety instruc-
tions and work instructions are observed.
■
Observe the relevant local accident prevention regulations and
general safety regulations for the instrument's range of use.
■
The operating instructions are part of the product and must be kept
in the immediate vicinity of the instrument and readily accessible to
skilled personnel at any time. Pass the operating instructions on to the
next operator or owner of the instrument.
■
Skilled personnel must have carefully read and understood the opera-
ting instructions prior to beginning any work.
■
The general terms and conditions contained in the sales
documentation shall apply.

2.2 Description
The bimetal thermometer has been specically designed for the require-
ments of sanitary applications.

The purely mechanical temperature transmission via a bimetal coil in the
stem and the high overtemperature resistance ensure a safe tempera-
ture measurement.
The TG58SA in hygienic design can be used for CIP (cleaning in place)
and SIP (sterilisation in place) and in wash-down areas.The measuring
instrument can thus be cleaned reliably and time-eciently. Based on
a third party verication, the model TG58SA corresponds to the 3-A
Sanitary Standard.

3. Safety

ecient and trouble-free operation.
3.2 Intended use
The model TG58SA bimetal thermometer is used for temperature
measurement, especially in sanitary applications.
The stem with its hemispherical base, in conjunction with the aseptic
process connections (e.g. clamp, threaded, VARINLINE®), enables a
dead-space free connection to the process.
The instruments are not approved for use in hazardous areas!
The instruments have been designed and built solely for the intended
use described here, and may only be used accordingly.
→ For performance limits, see chapter 9 “Specications”.
The manufacturer shall not be liable for claims of any type based on
operation contrary to the intended use.
3.3 Improper use

Improper use of the instrument can lead to hazardous situa-
tions and injuries.

Any use beyond or dierent to the intended use is considered as
improper use.
Do not use this instrument in safety or emergency shutdown devices.
3.4 Compliance with EHEDG conformity
For an EHEDG-compliant connection, sealings in accordance with the
current EHEDG policy document must be used.
Sealings for connections per ISO 2852, DIN 32676 and BS 4825 part 3
are, e.g., manufactured by Combit International B.V.
A manufacturer of VARINLINE®sealings is, e.g., GEA Tuchenhagen
GmbH.
3.5 Responsibility of the operator
The instrument is used in the industrial sector.The operator is therefore
responsible for legal obligations regarding safety at work.
The safety instructions within these operating instructions, as well as the
safety, accident prevention and environmental protection regulations for
the application area must be maintained.
The operator is obliged to maintain the product label in a legible
condition.
To ensure safe working on the instrument, the operating company must
ensure

that suitable rst-aid equipment is available and aid is provided
whenever required.
■
that the operating personnel are regularly instructed in all topics
regarding work safety, rst aid and environmental protection and know
the operating instructions and in particular, the safety instructions
contained therein.
■
that the instrument is suitable for the particular application in
accordance with its intended use.

may only be carried out by skilled personnel who have the
qualications described below.
Skilled personnel
Skilled personnel, authorised by the operator, are understood to be
personnel who, based on their technical training, knowledge of measu-
rement and control technology and on their experience and knowledge
of country-specic regulations, current standards and directives, are
capable of carrying out the work described and independently recognis-
ing potential hazards.
Operating personnel
The personnel trained by the operator are understood to be personnel
who, based on their education, knowledge and experience, are capab-
le of carrying out the work described and independently recognising
potential hazards.
Special operating conditions require further appropriate knowledge, e.g.
of aggressive media.
