VeriFone® VX 520 Series

EBT

EBT Overview

Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) is a

method of electronically accepting and

processing government benefit programs,

such as Cash Benefits or Food Stamps.

Merchants accepting food stamps must be

an authorized food stamp retailer (AFSR),

by previously registering with the Food

and Consumer Service (FCS) agency of

the U.S. Department of Agriculture. EBT

transactions are authorized and processed

electronically in a “real-time” environment.

However, there are cases when transactions

cannot be processed due to merchant

telecommunications or HOST system

failures. In those instances, there is a

process that allows for manual processing

of Food Stamp transactions

so as not to hinder a recipient’s receiving

of goods.

The steps for manually entering a Food

Stamp transaction are:

1. Completion of an Offline Food Stamp

Voucher slip.

2. Subsequent electronic submission of

the “Voucher Clear” transaction when

the system becomes available.

Otherwise funding for the sales

transaction will NOT take place.

>Select [SALE]

Optional Clerk/Server ID Prompt:

> Input Clerk/Server ID and press [ENTER]

>Input amount and press [ENTER]

>If prompted, select [YES] or [NO] to

confirm amount

  •If[NO] is selected, press [CLEAR]

to end transaction

>Swipe, tap or manually input Account #

and press [ENTER]

>Select [EBT]

>Select [FOOD]

> Cardholder enters PIN and presses

[ENTER]

Optional Invoice Prompt:

>Input Invoice # and press [ENTER]

>Select [YES] or [NO] to print Customer

EBT Food Stamp Refund

If desired selection is not displayed,

press key below [] until option appears

>Select [REFUND]

>If prompted, input password and press

[ENTER]

Optional Invoice Prompt:

> Input Invoice # and press [ENTER]

Optional Clerk/Server ID Prompt:

> Input Clerk/Server ID and press [ENTER]

>Input amount and press [ENTER]

>If prompted, select [YES] or [NO] to

confirm amount

  •If[NO] is selected, press [CLEAR]

to end transaction

>Swipe, tap or manually input account

number and press [ENTER]

>Select [EBT]

>Select [FOOD]

> Cardholder enters PIN and presses

[ENTER]

>Input original transaction date

(MMDDYY) and press [ENTER]

>Select [SALE]

> Input Clerk/Server ID and press [ENTER]

>Input amount and press [ENTER]

>If prompted, select [YES] or [NO] to

confirm amount

  •If[NO] is selected, press [CLEAR]

>Select [EBT]

>Select [CASH]

>Select [YES] or [NO] for Cash Back

>If [YES] is selected, choose Cash Back

Voice Auth Center and press [ENTER]

EBT Food Stamp Voucher

Clear Purchase Transaction

(To be used in cases when Food Stamp

transactions cannot be electronically

processed due to system outages.

Procedure for obtaining Voice Approvals

while the customer is present at the point

of sale.)

Completion of an Offline Food Stamp

Voucher slip

1. Call Retailer Assistance 800 # shown on

the back of the customer’s EBT card

for Voice Approval Number. Number

appears above the magnetic stripe.

2. Complete all sections of information on

the Offline Food Stamp Voucher:

NOTE: Guidelines and information must

be completed or you may not receive

payment for this Voucher Clear transaction.

Transactions must be “cleared” or entered

into your point-of-sale terminal on or before

15 days from the date of the Voice Approval.

If not, the cardholder’s EBT account will not

be charged for sale amount. Original copy of

the Offline Food Stamp Voucher form needs

to be stored by the merchant for 3 years.
