2 Safety chapter
The following warning signs are used in these operating instructions to
denote different types of danger:

2.1 Intended use
nOnly use the pump to meter liquid feed chemicals.
nOnly start up the pump once it has been correctly installed and started
up in accordance with the technical data and specifications contained
in the operating instructions.
nObserve the general limitations with regard to viscosity limits, chem‐
ical resistance and density - see also ProMinent® resistance list in the
product catalogue or at
www.prominent.com

nAll other uses or modifications are prohibited.
nThe pump is not designed to meter gaseous media and solids.
nThe pump is not intended to meter extremely hazardous media or
media harmful to life.
nThe pump is not designed to meter flammable media.
nThe pump is not intended to meter oxidants without the use of suitable
protective equipment.
nThe pump is not designed to meter explosive media.
nThe pump is not intended for operation in areas at risk from explosion.
nThe pump is not intended for unprotected use outdoors.
nThe pump is only intended for industrial use.
nThe pump should only be operated by trained and authorised per‐
sonnel.
nYou have a duty to observe the information contained in the operating
instructions during the different phases of the unit's service life.
2.2 Labelling of Warning Information
These operating instructions provide information on the technical data and
functions of the product. These operating instructions provide detailed
warning information and are provided as clear step-by-step instructions.
The warning information and notes are categorised according to the fol‐
lowing scheme. A number of different symbols are used to denote different
situations. The symbols shown here serve only as examples.

DANGER!
Nature and source of the danger
Consequence: Fatal or very serious injuries.
Measure to be taken to avoid this danger.
Description of hazard
–Denotes an immediate threatening danger. If the sit‐
uation is disregarded, it will result in fatal or very
serious injuries.

Possible consequence: Fatal or very serious injuries.
Measure to be taken to avoid this danger.
– Denotes a possibly hazardous situation. If the situa‐
tion is disregarded, it could result in fatal or very
serious injuries.
CAUTION!

Possible consequence: Slight or minor injuries. Material
damage.
Measure to be taken to avoid this danger.
– Denotes a possibly hazardous situation. If the situa‐
tion is disregarded, it could result in slight or minor
injuries. May also be used as a warning about mate‐
rial damage.
NOTICE!
Nature and source of the danger
Damage to the product or its surroundings.
Measure to be taken to avoid this danger.
– Denotes a possibly damaging situation. If the situa‐
tion is disregarded, the product or an object in its
vicinity could be damaged.

2.3 Users' qualifications
WARNING!
Danger of injury with inadequately qualified personnel!
The operator of the plant / device is responsible for
ensuring that the qualifications are fulfilled.
If inadequately qualified personnel work on the unit or
loiter in the hazard zone of the unit, this could result in
dangers that could cause serious injuries and material
damage.
– All work on the unit should therefore only be con‐
ducted by qualified personnel.
–Unqualified personnel should be kept away from the
hazard zone
Training Definition
Instructed personnel An instructed person is deemed to be a person who has been instructed and, if
required, trained in the tasks assigned to him/her and possible dangers that could
result from improper behaviour, as well as having been instructed in the required pro‐
tective equipment and protective measures.
Trained user A trained user is a person who fulfils the requirements made of an instructed person
and who has also received additional training specific to the system from ProMinent or
another authorised distribution partner.
Trained qualified personnel A qualified employee is deemed to be a person who is able to assess the tasks
assigned to him and recognize possible hazards based on his/her training, knowledge
and experience, as well as knowledge of pertinent regulations. The assessment of a
person's technical training can also be based on several years of work in the relevant
field.
Electrician Electricians are deemed to be people, who are able to complete work on electrical sys‐
tems and recognize and avoid possible hazards independently based on his/her tech‐
nical training and experience, as well as knowledge of pertinent standards and regula‐
tions.
Electricians should be specifically trained for the working environment in which the are
employed and know the relevant standards and regulations.
Electricians must comply with the provisions of the applicable statutory directives on
accident prevention.
Customer Service department Customer Service department refers to service technicians, who have received proven
training and have been authorised by ProMinent to work on the system.
Note for the system operator
The pertinent accident prevention regulations, as well as
all other generally acknowledged safety regulations,
must be adhered to!

2.4 Safety information
WARNING!
Danger from hazardous substances!
Possible consequence: Fatal or very serious injuries.
Please ensure when handling hazardous substances
that you have read the latest safety data sheets provided
by the manufacture of the hazardous substance. The
actions required are described in the safety data sheet.
Check the safety data sheet regularly and replace, if
necessary, as the hazard potential of a substance can
be re-evaluated at any time based on new findings.
The system operator is responsible for ensuring that
these safety data sheets are available and that they are
kept up to date, as well as for producing an associated
hazard assessment for the workstations affected.
WARNING!
Warning of personal injury and material damage
Only with Basic Type: The pump can start pumping
again as soon as it has cooled down after overheating.
– Take this into account when operating the pump.
WARNING!
Danger of electric shock
Supply voltage may be present inside the pump housing.
– Safely and quickly disconnect the pump from the
mains/power supply if the pump housing has been
damaged.
Only return the pump to operation after an author‐
ised repair.
CAUTION!
Warning of feed chemical spraying around
Feed chemical may spray out of the hydraulic compo‐
nents if they are tampered with or opened due to pres‐
sure in the liquid end and adjacent parts of the system.
– Disconnect the pump from the mains power supply
and ensure that it cannot be switched on again by
unauthorised persons.
–Ensure that the system is at atmospheric pressure
before commencing any work on hydraulic parts of
the system.
CAUTION!
Warning of feed chemical spraying around
An unsuitable feed chemical can damage the parts of
the pump that come into contact with the chemical.
– Take into account the resistance of the wetted mate‐
rials and the ProMinent Resistance List when
selecting the feed chemical - see the ProMinent
Product Catalogue or visit ProMinent.

2.5 Isolating protective equipment
All isolating protective equipment must be installed for operation:
nPower end front cover
nMotor fan cowling
nMotor terminal box cover
nPlug
In the event of an electrical accident, disconnect the mains cable from the
mains or press the emergency cut-off switch fitted on the side of the
system!
If feed chemical escapes, also depressurise the hydraulic system around
the pump as necessary. Adhere to the safety data sheet for the feed
chemical.
2.6 Sound pressure level
Sound pressure level LpA < 70 dB according to EN ISO 20361
at maximum stroke length, maximum stroke rate, maximum back pressure
(water)
