Introduction
The Multiprotocol Router Backbone Node (BN) product family comprising of Backbone
Concentrator Node (BCN) and Backbone Link Node (BLN) products is being discontinued
by Nortel*. The last order date is April 30, 2007 with the table below providing a list of
discontinued codes. Any Multiprotocol Router BN order codes not listed in the table have
also been discontinued.
Although no direct replacement exists at the time of this notice, customers are urged to
consider the Secure Router family, including the Secure Router 3120 as well as future
Secure Router models as potential replacements. Please note that the Secure Router
products are IP WAN routers and do not support legacy multiprotocol features of the
Multiprotocol Router BN. The Secure Router family provides superior price/performance
with advanced features in the areas of Routing, WAN, VPN, Security, Quality of Service and
Network Management.

Technical support for the Multiprotocol Router BN products will continue through the normal
Nortel Technical Support Center. This notice will also serve as the final EOL notice for the
order codes identified below and no additional notice will be issued.
Definition
Manufacture Discontinue (MD) – This notice serves as formal communication of Nortel
Networks’ intent to MD the product(s) noted. No further orders will be accepted as of the
Last Time Order Date shown above and no further shipments made after the product has
been discontinued. The MD of these products should not be interpreted as the
discontinuance of any Nortel Networks agreements to support the existing field population.
Services to the existing product base will continue to be provided until the End of Life (EOL)
date shown above.

Software Dependencies
Software support on the product will continue per Nortel support policy. BayRS 15.7 will
continue to be fully supported for one year after manufacture discontinuation and limited
support for four more years after full support ends. BayRS 15.6 and 15.4 will continue to
have limited support for five years after manufacture discontinuation.
