ThankyoufororderingandusingtheThinkServer®RemoteManagementModule,hereinafterreferredto

astheRemoteManagementModule.

TheUserGuidedescribeshowtousetheRemoteManagementModule,theoverviewofthemodulefeatures

andhowtosetupandoperatethemodule.

TheUserGuideisforsystemadministratorsresponsibleforinstallation,troubleshooting,upgradeand

maintenanceoftheRemoteManagementModule.Asasystemadministrator,onceyouarefamiliarwith

theGuideyoucanuseRemoteManagementModuletoaccessremotelyfromanylocationtorespondfor

emergency.

Warning:

•Poweron/off:ThepowerbuttoncannotcutoffsystempowerorRemoteManagementModulepower.

TocutoffthepowerofRemoteManagementModule,youmustdisconnecttheACpowercordfromthe

poweroutlet.Whenopeningthechassistoinstallorremovetheparts,youshouldmakesuretheAC

powercordhasbeendisconnected.

•Dangeroussituations,equipmentandcables:Power,telephonesandsignalcablesmayhavethe

dangerofelectricshock.Beforeopeningthedevice,shutdowntheserver,disconnectedthepowercord,

thecommunicationsystem,networkandmodemconnectedtotheserver.Otherwise,itmayresultin

personalinjuryorequipmentdamage.

•ElectrostaticDischarge(ESD)andESDprotection:ElectrostaticDischarge(ESD)candamagedisk

drivers,systemboardandothercomponents.Werecommendthatyoucompleteallthestepsinthis

SectiononlyintheESDprotectiveworkstations.IfESDworkstationisunavailable,wearanti-staticwrist

strapwhileholdingpartsandconnectthewriststraptothegroundwire(thatis,anyunpaintedmetal

surface)oftheserverchassistoprovideESDprotection.

•ESDandholdingsystemboards:Becarefulwhenholdingthesystemboard.Theyareextremely

sensitivetoESD.Onlytouchtheedgewhenholdingthesystemboard.Laythesystemboardwith

componentssidefacingupwardsaftertakingthesystemboardoutoftheprotectionbagorthesever.

Usetheconductivefoampad(ifany)ratherthanthesystemboardpackage.Donotslidethesystem

boardonanysurface.

•Installingorremovingjumper:Jumperisasmallplasticconductorbetweentwojumperpins.Some

jumpershaveasmallwingonthetopforyoutousengertipsorneneedleforcepstoclipit.Ifthe

jumperhasnosuchwing,becarefulwheninstallingorremovingitwithneedleforceps,andclipthe

jumper'snarrowfaceinsteadofthewideone.Clippingthewidefacewilldamagethecontactsinside

thejumper,whichwillleadtointermittentfaultstosomefunctionscontrolledbythejumper.Clipthe

jumpercarefullywithpliersorothertoolsanddonotsqueezewhenremovingit.Otherwise,pinsonthe

systemboardmaybebentorbroken.

TheRemoteManagementModulerunsontheserversystemasanintegratedsolutionandintegrates

theembeddedoperatingsystem.Independentoftheserveroperatingsystem,theembeddedoperating

systemcanprovideawholesetofcomplete,stableandeffectivesolutionfortheserver.Asasystem

administrator,youcanrespondanytimeandanywheretoemergencyfailureandtakeremotecontrolon

theserverthroughthenetwork.

ThinkServerRemoteManagementModuleiseasilyaccessiblebyremoteKVMandcontrollableviaLAN

orInternet.Itwilldigitizeandcompressthecollectedvideosignal,keyboard,mousesignalsandthen

sendtotheremoteconsole.Embeddedwithremoteaccessandrelatedcontrolsoftware,themodule

alsoallowsintegratedremotepowermanagementviaIPMI.KeyfeaturesoftheRemoteManagement
