Locate your Printer...



On a surface capable of supporting the printer, consumables, and media.



A surface can be tested for levelness with a standard round pencil.

If the pencil rolls, the surface is not level. Clear the area of any

obstruction or items such as cables that might prevent the printer

from sitting directly on the flat, level surface.



If the printer is located in a cold room that is rapidly heated, or if the printer

is moved from a cold place to a warm, humid place, condensation may

occur within the printer, degrading print quality. If this occurs, allow the

printer to adapt to the environment for about one hour before use.



If using a humidifier or water vaporizer in the room with the printer, use

only purified or distilled water. Impurities in the water may be released into

the air, where they can accumulate inside the printer and cause degraded

printer output.

Safety Information

Laser Safety

This is a page printer which operates by means of a laser. There is no possi-

bility of danger from the laser, provided the printer is operated according to

the instructions in this manual.

Since radiation emitted by the laser is completely confined within protective

housing and external covers, the laser beam cannot escape from the

machine during any phase of user operation.

Internal Laser Radiation

Maximum average radiation power: 36.903 µW at the laser aperture of the

print head unit.

Wavelength: 770-800 nm.

This product employs a Class 3b Laser Diode that emits an invisible laser

beam. The Laser Diode and the Scanning Polygon Mirror are incorporated in

the print head unit.

The print head unit is NOT A FIELD SERVICE ITEM. Therefore, the print

head unit should not be opened under any circumstances.

CAUTION

Use of controls, adjustments, or performance of procedures other than those

specified in this manual may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

This is a semiconductor laser. The maximum power of the laser diode is 15

mW and the wavelength is 770-800 nm. A laser safety label is attached to the

back of the printer.

For United States Users-CDRH Regulation

This printer is certified as a Class 1 Laser product under the Radiation Perfor-

mance Standard according to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1990.

Compliance is mandatory for laser products marketed in the United States,

and is reported to the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) of

the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Department of Health

and Human Services (DHHS). This means that the product does not produce

hazardous laser radiation.

The label shown above indicates compliance with the CDRH regulations and

must be attached to laser products marketed in the United States.

For European Users-CE Marking (Declaration of

Conformity)

This product complies with the following EU directives: 89/336/EEC, 73/23/

EEC, and 93/68/EEC directives. This declaration is valid for the area of the

European Union (EU) only.

This device must be used with a shielded parallel interface cable and

shielded USB interface cable. The use of non-shielded cables is likely to

result in interference with radio communications, and is prohibited under 89/

336/EEC rules.

Ozone Release

During printer operation, a small quantity of ozone is released. This amount is

not large enough to harm anyone adversely. However, be sure the room

where the printer is being used has adequate ventilation, especially if you are

printing a high volume of materials or if the printer is being used continuously

over a long period.

Support Information

Wherever inthe world you have installed your printer, the top three sources of

support are the same.

1. Your Vendor

In many cases, your local vendor may be best equipped to help you. Your

vendor may have specially trained technicians available to answer questions

and has the equipment to analyze your situation.

2. Your Application Vendor

Often, “printing” problems have more to do with the application being used

than with the printer itself. In this case, the application manufacturer is the

best source of help.
