This equipment generates and uses radio frequency (RF) energy for its

SYMBOLS
This is the symbol for Electro-Static Discharge. Electro-Static
Discharge (ESD) can damage certain electronic devices. ESD
is a transfer of electrostatic charge between bodies at different
electrostatic potentials caused by direct contact or induced by a
electrostatic field. The threshold for feeling an electro-static discharge
is approximately 900 to 1000 volts. The average spark produced by a
static discharge from a human body varies from about 10,000 to
25,000 volts.
ESD can cause damage to integrated circuits (IC). Due to the small
size of these complex devices, the ESD sensitivity has increased so
much that some of these devices can be destroyed or damaged by as
little as 20 volts. ESD damage is easy to induce, hard to detect, and is
expensive to repair. Workers could be subjecting an electronic device
to lethal voltages without being aware. The following is a list of
precautions when handling static sensitive devices.
·A conductive ground strap should be worn to assure that you are at
ground potential. If a ground strap cannot be used, you should
ground yourself before touching the device and remain in contact
with a grounded metallic object during the entire time while
working with the device.
·Containers, tools, test equipment, and fixtures that come into
contact with the device should be properly grounded. Grounding
of electrical equipment should be done by a grounded plug, not
through the conductive surface of the grounded workstation.
· Workers clothing should never make contact with the device and
workers should avoid activities that cause friction in the area of the
workstation (wiping feet, rubbing of hands, etc.).
·Workers should avoid touching leads or contacts.

succeeding text to prevent possible equipment damage.

VAV-01 OVERVIEW
The JCI VAV-01 Controller consists of a Variable Air Volume (VAV)
controller integrated with a velocity pressure sensor. It provides
pressure dependent/independent cooling control for fan powered VAV
terminal boxes with or without reheat capacity.
The VAV-01 Controller is a 4”x 6” circuit board using SMT (surface
mount technology) components. The board is snap-track mountable
and has a built-in airflow sensor, 5 Triac outputs, 24 VAC input, a FTT-
10 free topology transceiver and a STAT/Configuration port. The VAV-
01 can support stand-alone operation but is best utilized when used
in conjunction with network communications. The unit is shown in
Figure 1 below:

INSPECTION
Inspect the carton for possible damage. If damaged, notify the
appropriate carrier immediately. Inspect the components for obvious
damage. Contact Electronic Systems USA before returning damaged
products.
REQUIREMENTS
• Job wiring diagrams.
• Tools (not provided):
- Appropriate screwdrivers for wiring terminals and mounting screws.
- Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVM).
• Training: Installer must be a qualified, experienced technician.
• VAV-01, enclosure for conduit applications (not provided).
• ULlisted Class 2 power transformer (not provided) supplying a
nominal 24 VAC (20.4 to 30 VAC) with a minimum rating of 5 VA at
50/60 Hz and 5 VA plus DO load ( 24 VA total max.) at 50/60 Hz.

MOUNTING
The JCI VAV-01 Controller can be mounted in any direction and on
any plane. Mounting dimensions are 4”x6” overall board size for
snap-track mounting. For applications requiring mounting using
standoffs the .150” circuit board mounting holes are spaced 3.5”x5.5”.
Dimensions shown in Figure 2 below are in inches and (mm).
When mounting the JCI VAV-01 Controller in the snap-track railing be
careful not to exert too much pressure when inserting the VAV-01
board into the snap-track.

Follow static electricity precautions when installing, servicing,
or operating the system.

AIRFLOW SENSOR CONNECTIONS
Use either 1/4 in. O.D. FRPE polyethylene tubing or 1/8 in. I.D.
Tygon tubing for piping connections. Maximum run of tubing is 5
feet.
1. Remove the yellow plastic fitting caps from the barbed fittings of
the VAV-01 airflow sensor inputs. See Figure 3 below.
2. Connect the tube from the low pressure fitting on the controller
to the low pressure tap on the airflow sensor. See Figure 3
below.
3. Connect the tube from the high pressure fitting on the controller
to the high pressure tap on the VAV terminal. See Figure 3
below.
