Introducing Your Communications Software

The pre-loaded communications software that comes with your

computer means that you now have a powerful communications tool,

which you can manage from one central application, Windows

Messaging.

HP has made communicating even simpler by providing the HP

communication center, a central access point from where you can

install and use all your computer’s communications features.

Your computer’s fax capability is provided by Microsoft Fax, which

enables you to send and receive documents as faxes, or to send and

receive short notes on a fax cover page. You can use one of the

predefined fax cover pages provided with the application, or use the

Microsoft Cover Page Editor to create your own cover page.

Using your computer as an answering machine is easy with Cheyenne

Quip. You can make phone calls, screen calls that you receive, and also

use it to take voice messages when you are not at your desk, or when

you don’t want to be disturbed by answering the phone.

Windows Messaging can be extended to enable you to communicate

with other users using electronic mail (e-mail), sending messages to

and receiving messages from your colleagues. If you need to

communicate more detailed information, you can attach a document

(or documents) to your message before sending it. A single intray

serves for all the mail options (MSMail, Internet Mail, etc.).

All these features are easy to use and easy to access as they are all

managed through a single access point, the Inbox, which you can get to

by clicking the Inbox icon ( ) on your desktop.

You can also use the WinPhone application for your computer fax

and phone features. You can install this application from the

Product Recovery CD-ROM.

Setting Up Your Communications Software

Before you can use the communications features pre-loaded on your

HP PC, you need to configure the fax and phone software.

Once you have followed the steps below, and you have filled in the

personal details necessary for your fax and phone features to work, you

can use your computer to communicate with other users, by fax or by

phone.

How to Set Up Your Communications Software

Throughout the setup procedure, you will be presented with a set of

dialog boxes that you fill in. Each time you finish filling in a dialog box,

click the Next button at the bottom to go to the next dialog box.

Follow the steps below:

1Click Start, HP centers, Communication, then “Set up your

answering machine”. The communications setup program dialog box

opens.

2At the communications setup program dialog box, click OK. You are

asked if you want to receive faxes.

If you select No, the fax setup program ends and you go directly to

the answering machine setup program.

If you select Yes, the Fax Reception settings dialog box opens:

3Click one of the buttons to select the option that you want, and

follow the instructions on the screen. A message will indicate that

Windows Messaging has been installed.

The Fax Setup Completed dialog box opens, indicating that the fax

setup is complete. Click OK.

4A setup wizard now installs Cheyenne Quip. The next dialog box

displays the Cheyenne Quip license agreement.

5Select the type of configuration required:
