Summary Enclosed is a new Controller CPU, Scanner 1, or Scanner 2 module for your

ControlEdge HC900 Controller. Use the following procedures to install or

replace a module.

Controller CPU Table 1 and 3

Scanner 1 Table 2 and 3

Scanner 2 Table 4

Although it is best practice to remove power when replacing modules, the

ControlEdge HC900 CPU and Scanner modules may be removed and inserted under power.

See the ControlEdge HC900 Controller Installation and User’s Guide for more information.

Contents

Each Controller CPU and Scanner module is supplied in a shipping container and static protective

shipping bag. For protection, leave the modules in their shipping containers until ready for installation.

Each container has a label identifying the contents.

Installation Guidelines

The Controller CPU and Scanner modules may only be inserted into a dedicated slot location in the

rack. The modules are labeled on the LEFT side of the module: for example, C30, C50, C70, Scanner

1 Port (S50), Scanner 2 Port (S75) and Safety versions C30S, C50S, C70S, C75S, Scanner 1 Port

(S50S), Scanner2 Port (S75S).

Most of the components in an I/O expansion rack are identical to those used in the Controller Rack.

The Controller CPU is installed in the controller rack (Figure 1, item 3) whereas the Scanner 1 or

Scanner 2 is installed in the I/O expansion rack (Figure 2).

Controller CPU Installation Procedure

Follow the procedure in Table 1 to install a Controller CPU module in a controller rack.

Orient the controller rack to have the open side of the enclosure facing forward

with the power supply module located on the left and I/O module slots on the

Remove the Controller CPU module from its shipping container.

On the new CPU set/verify serial port switch settings.

Only one port may be a Modbus Master. It can be assigned to either port.

A small slotted screwdriver or paperclip works well; avoid using pencils because

their residue can damage the switch.

Insert the module into the dedicated slot location in the rack adjacent to the

power supply. Orient the module with module name at top. Align the module

printed circuit board with the card guide slots in the chassis. Press the CPU

module into the slot until the rear connector engages the mating connector of the

rack backplane. (See Figure 2)

Secure the Controller CPU module top and bottom with the captive mounting

screws. Torque settings 0,4 - 0,5 Nm (3.5 –4.4 Lb-In.)

Do not install the battery at this time. See instructions in the Controller

Installation and User’s Guide (document #51-52-25-154) for additional Controller

CPU setup information and battery installation.

Follow the procedure in Table 2 to install a Scanner 1 module in an expansion I/O rack.

Controller CPU or Scanner 1 Replacement

Follow the procedure in Table 3 to replace a Controller CPU or Scanner 1 module in an existing rack.

Before replacing the Controller CPU module verify a copy of the current configuration

file is available and a method of loading the file is understood. See Process Control

Designer User’s Guide or ControlEdge HC900 Control Station User’s Guide.

Remove power from the rack. (recommended)

Remove the screws that secure the module assembly to the rack.

Pull the assembly to remove. For Controller CPU modules, go to step 6.

Remove the Scanner 1 module from the shipping container.

Note: Verify module faceplate colour (Blue or Orange) matches the original faceplate.

Set scanner address for the I/O rack using the switches on SW3. A small slotted

screwdriver or paperclip works well; avoid using pencils since the residue can

damage the switch.

Scanner 2 Overview

•One Scanner2 Module is installed in

each I/O Rack of a redundant system.

•I/O ports A –connects to CPU-A and

I/O Port B connects to CPU-B of the

redundant C75 Controller CPUs.

•Maintains communications with both

Lead and Reserve C75 CPU’s to

facilitate failover.

•Reads inputs from modules in rack &

writes outputs to modules in rack.

•Required for interface to C75

redundant controllers (cannot use

Scanner1 module with C75’s nor can

Safety be used with Non-Safety).

•May be replaced under power.

•Cannot use with non-redundant

systems.

The Scanner 2 module may only be inserted into a dedicated slot location in a Remote I/O Rack.

Scanner 2 Installation or Replacement

Follow the procedure in Table 4 to install or replace a Scanner 2 module in a redundant power rack.

If you are installing a new Scanner 2, go to step 6.

If you are replacing the Scanner 2, go to step 2.

Remove power from the rack containing the Scanner 2 module to be replaced.

(recommended)

Remove the screws that secure the module assembly to the rack. Disconnect the A

and B IO cables noting cable to port assignment

Pull the Scanner 2 module to remove.

Remove the Scanner 2 module from the shipping container. Note: Verify module

faceplate colour (Blue or Orange) matches the original faceplate.

Position the scanner address switches on the module for the appropriate address

position (see Step 6).

Set rack address for the I/O rack using

the Scanner 2 Module switches on SW3

(shown at right).

(Scanner Address = 1 is shown.)

Switches 6-8 must be OFF.

Only 1 switch position may be ON.

Switch 1 ON = Scanner 1

Switch 2 ON = Scanner 2

Switch 3 ON = Scanner 3

Switch 4 ON = Scanner 4

Switch 5 ON = Scanner 5

Torque settings 0,4 - 0,5 Nm (3.5 –4.4 Lb-In.)

Re-apply power to the rack.
