Overview: DR Series System Release Notes

The Release Notes for 2.0.1.0 are intended to supplement the Dell DR Series system documentation set available at the

The release notes contain details about the preinstalled system software on the Dell DR Series appliances. It also

documents the latest known updates, issues, resolutions, and other information needed for use with the DR Series

system, 2.0.1.0 release (release build number: 2.0.1163.0).

Checking System Information

Before troubleshooting issues with any DR Series system, ensure that the installed DR Series system software is up to

date. You can check the software version against the latest versions available at the following website when you

provide the Service Tag of your system (or choose from a list of Dell products):

DR Series System: Drive And System Capacities

The following table defines the internal system drive capacity and available physical capacity (in decimal and binary

values) in the release 1.0.1.2 and later releases of DR4000 systems. Since the 2.0 release, the DR Series system comes in

two types:

DR4000 system which consists of preinstalled DR Series system software on a modified Dell R510 appliance

platform.

DR4100 system which consists of preinstalled DR Series system software on a modified Dell R720xd appliance

platform.

The capacity values listed here represent the internal drive and available physical capacities that have been adjusted

for the associated overhead in the DR4000/DR4100 system releases.

NOTE: In the following table, TB and GB represent terabytes and gigabytes in decimal values, and TiB represents

tebibytes in binary values. Tebibytes are a standards-based binary multiple of the byte, a unit of digital information

storage.

• DR4000/DR4100 system external expansion shelf enclosures

– Supports addition of up to two external enclosures per system. The DR Series system requires that each

external enclosure added be equal to or greater than the DR Series system internal drive slot 0-11

capacity. The supported external expansion enclosure is the Dell PowerVault MD1200 direct-attached

storage array. Requirements for adding an enclosure include:

* Meeting the minimum system drive capacity; the DR Series system must be 600 GB or larger (the

300 GB DR Series systems do not support the addition of external expansion enclosures).

* Meeting the internal drive slot capacity listed above.

* Installing the appropriate expansion shelf license.

• DR4100 system internal drive capacity

– Supports an internal drive capacity up to 3 TB in the DR4100 system (with up to 2 TB capacity in the

DR4000 system).

– 3 TB internal drive capacity results in available physical capacity (decimal) of 26.79 TB and available

physical capacity (binary) of 23.8 TiB for the DR4100 system.

• Supported system limits for DR4000/DR4100 systems

– Maximum files: 32 million (1 TB drives or smaller) or 64 million (2 TB drives or greater)

– Maximum containers: 32

– Maximum replications per container: 32

– Maximum CIFS connections: 32

– Maximum NFS connections: 32

– Maximum OST connections: 32

– Maximum replications per system: 32:1

NOTE: Release 2.0 supports up to 32 DR4000/DR4100 systems being able to write to separate, individual

containers on a single, target DR4000/DR4100 system.
