IMPORTANT! READ THIS PROCEDURE IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE PROCEDURE.

UNSUCCESSFUL REPAIR OR DAMAGE MAY RESULT FROM IMPROPER INSTALLATION.

Symptom:

Customer reports a “NO PAPER FED” message when attempting to feed paper from cassette and/or hears a

“popping” noise when attempting to feed paper and the paper does not leave the paper tray.

Possible cause:

The paper (PE) actuator is stuck in the wrong position and or there is damage to the paper feed frame unit.

PE Actuator is in the incorrect position PE Actuator is in the correct position

Recommendation:

Replace the paper feed frame unit.

PAPER FEED FRAME ASSEMBLY – REMOVAL

Remove the consumables:

1. Power off the machine and disconnect the power cord. Remove the paper tray from the machine.

2. Open the front door. Remove the drum/toners, belt unit and the waste toner pack (both located under the

drum unit). Important – place the drum unit on a flat surface and protect the drum unit from excessive

bright light.

Remove the outer covers:

1. Remove the two screws securing the back cover. Remove the back cover.

2. Remove the upper back cover

3. Remove the four screws securing the left side cover

4. Five screws secure the side plate to the printer frame and remove the side plate.

Remove the paper feed frame unit from the machine:

1. Disconnect connectors CN1, CN10 and CN11 from the Engine Controller.

2. With the front cover open, remove the 3 screws securing the paper feed frame unit to the machine and

slide the Paper feed frame unit in the direction of arrows 3a and 3b in this order to remove the paper

feed frame unit.

3. Pry the PF CR harness holder from the printer frame and remove it from the printer frame.

4. Push and hold the front tab of the belt cleaner release assembly. The holder is fragile – use care when

pushing the tab! Lift the assembly from the machine.

PAPER FEED FRAME – INSTALLATION

1. Place the belt cleaner release harnesses back on the printer frame. Be sure to place the wire harness on

the paper feed frame assembly back through the harness guide.

2. Place the wire harnesses back into the PF CR harness. The wide end of the PF CR harness will face the

bottom of the machine when installed. Feed the wire harness back through the printer frame BEFORE

attaching it to the printer frame. Leave slack in the wire harness.

3. Place the frame unit back in the machine with the assembly as far to the RIGHT as possible. DO NOT

push it to the left at this time. Be sure that the metal ground tab for the center screw is not caught under

the frame unit.

4. Locate the white cam shown in figure 1. Use a screwdriver or other object to hold the cam in the UP

position (pushed towards the back of the machine). Leave the cam in this position during the installation

procedure.

5. Locate the white lever shown in figure 2. The green lift arm will raise this lever when the paper feed

frame is installed in the machine.

6. Slide the paper feed frame assembly to the left while pushing up on the roller holder assembly, this lever

will not move up unless released by pushing the PU lift cam back, as shown in figure 3.Do not release

the roller holder, because it will come back down again.

7. The goal is to apply only enough pressure to the roller holder assembly to allow the lift arm to rest

between LM hook Aand LM hook B (in red) in figure 4.

Important: If the Left Arm does not go in between the A&B it will not work.

Note: If the roller holder is pushed too far up or not far enough, it will miss this area.

Caution: If the Lift Arm is not inserted properly, the machine will make the original loud noise, and the

machine will not lift the paper tray nor will feed paper.

8. If resistance is encountered when pushing the frame assembly into position, the shaft keys are not

aligned properly. Align the ends of the feed and separation roller shafts as needed (figures 5 and 6).

9. Once the feed and separation roller shafts have been aligned and the feed frame assembly has been

pushed completely to the left side of the printer, release the roller holder.

10. Test the installation:

a. Remove the screwdriver (or other object) used to hold the cam in figure 1.

b. Pushing the roller holder assembly fully to the top of the machine should cause the cam to move

forward. The roller holder assembly should remain locked in the UP position.

c. Pushing the cam toward the back of the machine should cause the roller holder assembly to drop.

The cam should remain in this position.

d. If this behavior is observed, the repair is successful. Secure the frame assembly with the three

screws removed in figure 6. Proceed with reassembly of the machine. LEAVE THE CAM

ASSEMBLY PUSHED TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE MACHINE.

e. If the machine does NOT behave as described, the lift arm is not in the correct position. Repeat the

procedure, beginning with step 5. IT IS NOT NESSCARY TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE

ASSEMBLY FROM THE MACHINE – SIMPLY SLIDE IT TO THE RIGHT.

Note: Check the bush 7 holder, to make sure it is installed properly and did not clip off.

11. Now you can finish reassembling the machine in reverse order.
