Cabinet design The box design with a narrow baffle and c rved
side is not only an esthetical neat shape, b t also
provides advantages in terms of aco stics, since
non parallel walls s ppress internal resonances of
the cabinet.
The cabinet is made from st rdy MDF board, which
offers good sonic q alities.
The cabinet is f rther strengthened with bars,
which in total ens res a very stable constr ction.
Tweeter dri er We have selected a ribbon tweeter which provides
s perior transient response and a very flat fre-
q ency response. The ribbon cone is s per light
and only 18 microns thick. It is a sandwich con-
str ction made from rosin-al mini m-rosin that
has been hardened at 320 degrees Celsi s.
The magnet system is a 2 row high-efficient neody-
mi m magnets in a mo lded chassis of ceramic car-
bon steel.
Fishbone shaped contactors in al mini m, res lts
in a low connection resistance and good heat distri-
b tion.
The driver has high power d rability and handles
freq encies p to 40000 Hz which makes it DVD-
A dio and SACD-ready.
Woofer/midrange
dri er
After eval ating a large n mber of drivers from dif-
ferent man fact rers we selected one from Seas, a
company that has a solid rep tation in the area of
high q ality speaker drivers. Yo find Seas drivers
in many well-known High End speakers.
For woofer/midrange we decided on a 6,5" mag-
nesi m driver from the Seas Excel series that have
extreme performance. We claim that finding a bet-
ter 6,5" driver on the market is a very diffic lt task.
The s rface treated magnesi m cone is extremely
light b t still extremely stiff and effectively red ces
resonances.
The r bber s rro nding makes s re that no edge
resonances are present.
The mo lded metal basket is a "high flow" type that
is aco stically transparent with high precision as
the basket is shaped exactly d e to the mo lding
process. This makes s re that the basket is very
stable and efficiently red ces resonances. The bas-
ket is absol tely non-magnetic, which contrib tes
to a higher efficiency of the driver.
A strong magnet combined with the light cone en-
s res a high efficiency and a good transient re-
sponse.
Heavy copper rings mo nted above and below the
T-shaped pole piece red ce non linear- and mod -
lation-distortion and increases the overload mar-
gin.

The copper plating of the top and bottom plates
along with a solid copper phase pl g improves the
heat cond ction and th s contrib tes to the high
power d rability.
Gold plated terminals red ce contact resistance
and serves as anti-corrosion.
Large windows in the basket both above and below
the spider red ces so nd reflection, air flow noise
and cavity resonances.
Woofer dri er Also for the bass register we selected a SEAS driver
of the type coated paper, a very well-tried type with
an nbeatable relation between price/performance.
The coated paper cone is extremely light b t still
extremely stiff and effectively red ces resonances.
The r bber s rro nd makes s re that no edge res-
onances are present.
The mo lded metal basket of "high flow" type that
is aco stically transparent and high precision since
the basket is shaped exactly d e to mo lding. This
makes s re that the basket is very stable and effi-
ciently red ces resonances. The basket is absol tely
none magnetically, which contrib tes to a higher
efficiency of the driver.

Crosso er /
Binding post
For the midrange and tweeter we have chosen a
-12/18 dB crossover that has a fast transient re-
sponse and a minim m of phase shiftings.
The connectors are gold-plated and of bi-wiring
type so that yo can connect to the amplifier with
do ble cables (tri-wiring), or connect to two ampli-
fiers (tri-amping) for f rther improving the so nd.
The following co pling modes are available:
1. Upper terminal + mid+ lower terminal
(loops present)
Defa lt setting, the lo dspeaker is fed with the en-
tire freq ency range.
Witho t the loop between pper and lower termin-
al:
2. Upper terminal. The signal is only fed to the
tweeter.
3. Mid terminal. The signal is only fed to the
midrange.
4. Lower terminal. Now the signal is fed to the
woofer only.

Practice of sound / Installation and placement tips
This chapter contains common information on
lo dspeaker placement and installation.
These are general r les, so there are exceptions.
In which room do
you achie e the best
sound?
No matter how good the eq ipment is, in the wrong
listening environment it will inevitably so nd bad.
There are some basic r les concerning a proper
lo dspeaker installation:
Reflections Carpets, c rtains and soft f rnit re absorb mid
range and high freq ency so nd, and this is
preferable. Big empty area, on the contrary, reflects
it and prod ces hard reflections that may lead to
bl rry dialog e. Apart from colo ring the so nd,
also the perspective of the so nd will deteriorate.
Reflections in the room can ro ghly be compared to
the reflections that yield ghost pict res on a TV
screen.
Amplification of bass
frequencies
A lo dspeaker that is placed near a wall, ceiling or
floor will amplify lower freq encies in a sometimes
not desirable way (since it may lead to an indistinct
so nd reprod ction). This amplification becomes
even more obvio s if the lo dspeaker is placed near
a corner. Th s, for a so nd as clear as possible, the
lo dspeaker sho ld be placed at least 30 cm (abo t
12 inch) away from the wall.
Some constr ctions are made to be placed close to
a wall.
Furniture Be aware that f rnit re may vibrate and ca se
noise at high levels.
Room dimension Q adratic rooms or rooms where the length is near
twice as long as the width sho ld be avoided, since
they may create nwanted resonance.
Placement of the
subwoofer
The placement of the s bwoofer in the room
dramatically affects the overall freq ency response
and so nd level of the system. At low freq encies
the effect of the room is strong. Even a slight
change in the s bwoofer's location can make a
significant difference in the freq ency balance.
Patience and experimentation is needed to find the
optimal placement. The placement affects the
phase difference between the main lo dspeakers
and the s bwoofer.
One basic r le is to place the s bwoofer together
with or near the front system (especially important
if the front lo dspeaker also covers bass
freq encies) as this will minimize the risk of phase
errors in the room.
Page: 7

Cables Try to keep them as short as possible. By its
electrical parameters, a long cond ctor will have a
bigger infl ence on the so nd than a short one. It
may also work as an antenna and th s receive
vario s signals that may become a constant noise in
an active s bwoofer.
Make s re that all connections are clean and not
oxidized. All connections sho ld be mechanically
stable, both power, signal and lo dspeaker cables.
Signal cables sho ld be separated from other
cables.
Front speakers To get the best res lt the front speakers sho ld be
placed symmetrical in front of the listener. The
distance between the front speakers sho ld be
aro nd 80% of the distance to the listener. In other
words, the recommended angle between the front
speakers sho ld be 45°.
Why use two
Subwoofer
There are benefits having two s bwoofers instead
of one.
The maxim m so nd press re level will be higher.
Less dips and standing waves in the room and a
better freq ency response in the room (and in
sweet spot).
The power needed will be less to reach the same
SPL as with one s bwoofer.
Finally Please remember that good so nd is a matter of
taste, so yo have to experiment to obtain yo r
favo rite one.
We wish yo best of l ck!

Mounting and Connecting tips
Mounting
alternati es
Normally the XTZ 99.36 MKII is placed standing
by a wall. The wall behind and besides the
lo dspeaker have infl ence both on the bass level
and the bass characteristics, so please be patient
and try different distances to the rear and side
walls.
Connect using the
correct phase
Always connect sing the correct phase, from the
+-pole on the amplifier to the +-pole on the
lo dspeaker and corresponding for min s (-).
If yo by accident connect the other way,
there is no risk of damage. However, the
so nd will not be correct, especially in the
lower freq encies.
O erload At high load d ring extensive time periods, there is
always the risk of overloading the driver and
amplifier.
All lo dspeakers have a limited patience
for high power, so be caref l not to play
extremely lo d and not to increase treble
or bass settings to m ch.
By increasing the bass or treble from 0 to
max yo will increase the power by abo t
16 times.
The initial playing
time
It takes abo t 50 to 100 ho r of initial playing time,
for the driver to so nd optimal. D ring this time,
the speaker may be sed normally.

Room Tuning -
Mechanical
adjustment of the
boundary frequency
By sing the s pplied bass pl gs in the bass reflex
gates, yo can alter the lower bo ndary freq ency
on the XTZ 99.36 MKII.
The level can be adj sted in 6 different levels in the
bass range.
Also the treble level may be adj sted, which allows
yo to perfectly alter the sonic to fit the room,
eq ipment and yo r own taste.
The speaker is parted in two bass reflex chambers,
one for the midrange / woofer driver and one for
the woofer. The ppermost gate is for the
midrange/woofer while the two lowermost gates
are for the woofer.
The fig re below ill strates three basic settings.
Deep bass
With one bass pl gs in lower of the two lower gates
yo have the deepest possible bass, which may be
s itable for smaller rooms.
This is nder the condition that the bass level is set
at mode 2 (+3dB)
"Quick" bass
Witho t bass reflex pl gs in the gates, yo have a
"q ick" bass which is especially s itable for large
rooms where the lower freq encies often are ampli-
fied by the room.
Neutral bass
With two pl gs in two gates yo have a flat fre-
q ency response.
This is nder the condition that the bass level is set
at mode 1 (0dB)
This setting also depends on the size and
shape of the room, and also on yo r own
taste, so please has patience when trying
o t yo r prefered setting.
This schematic pict re (which does not shown act al meas red c rves) el cidates the different sonic characteristics of the bass freq encies.
