Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive

* To achieve optimal performance from the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive your computer should be

equipped with an USB 2.0 port.

General Information

The following hardware and software requirements must be fulfilled to ensure

trouble-free operation.

System requirements

In order to use the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive, following components are

needed:

PC:

• Intel Pentium III / AMD Duron 900 MHz or higher

• 256 MB RAM (Vista / 7: 512 MB RAM) or higher

• Available USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 port*

• Internet connection for online registration, software updates and downloads

• Operating system: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7

Mac:

• PowerPC G4/G5 or Intel Mac

• 256 MB RAM or higher

• Available USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 port*

• Internet connection for online registration, software updates and downloads

• Operating system: Mac OS X v10.4 or higher

General Information

Precautionary measures

To ensure that your Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive functions properly, please take

note of the following precautions. If these are not followed, you may void your

warranty and damage the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive.

• Safely remove the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive via your operating system (the

"unplugorejecthardware"optionintheWindowstaskbar)beforedisconnecting

the USB cable. Failing to do so may result in data loss.

• Do not drop the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive or expose it to other kinds of

sudden mechanical shocks as this may result in data loss and damage to the

Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive.

• Do not use the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive when the ambient temperature

is below 10°C or above 35°C.

• If the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive is moved from a cool environment to a

warmer environment, please allow the drive to acclimatize to the ambient

temperature before operating the device. Failing to do so may lead to

condensation within the drive enclosure, which in turn may cause the drive

to malfunction.

• Donot placeliquidsordrinksonthe VerbatimMobileHardDrive.Whenliquids

are spilled and get in contact with the electronics within the drive enclosure,

it will damage the drive and will cause the drive to malfunction.

• Do not use the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive in a dusty environment. Dust

inside the enclosure may damage the internal electronics and result in drive

malfunction.

• Opening the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive will void the warranty.

• Since USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.1, the Verbatim Mobile

Hard Drive can be connected to all USB ports. When connected to a USB 1.1

port, however, the performance (data transfer rate) of the Verbatim Mobile

Hard Drive will be much lower than when the drive is connected to a USB 2.0

port.

Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive

The hi-speed data transfer through the USB 2.0 interface makes it ideally

suitable for data-storage, file sharing, backup, archiving, audio playback and

all applications that need fast file access.

For your convenience, the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive has been partitioned

(1 partition) and pre-formatted (FAT32 file system). The FAT32 format ensures

maximum interchangeabilityoftheVerbatimMobileHardDrivebetweendifferent

computers.ShouldyouchoosetoformattheVerbatimMobileHardDriveinanother

file system (e.g. NTFS), please be aware of possible problems when connecting

the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive to another computer than the one you used for

formatting.

Hardware Installation

Chapter 1: Hardware Installation

1. Connect the interface cable to the Verbatim

Mobile Hard Drive.

2. Connect the interface cable to the interface port of

your computer.

SinceUSB2.0isbackwardscompatiblewithUSB1.1,theVerbatimMobile

Hard Drive can be connected to all USB ports. When connected to a USB

1.1 port, however, the performance (data transfer rate) of the Verbatim

Mobile Hard Drive will be much lower than when the drive is connected

to a USB 2.0 port.

For optimum performance the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive should

always be connected to a USB 2.0 interface.

Chapter 2: Driver Installation

Under XP / Vista / 7 and Mac OS X a separate Verbatim driver is not required. The

drivers will be installed automatically by the operating system after plugging in

the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive into the USB port of the computer.

Chapter 3: Installation of the application software

3.1 Software installation PC

1. Click on "Start PC.exe" in the main directory of the hard drive. The Verbatim

start menu opens.

2. Click on "Software Installation" -> "TURBO USB 2.0". The installation starts

now. Follow the instructions on the screen, confirm with "Next" in order to

continue with the installation.

3.1.1 Saving Verbatim data (PC)

The user manuals and complementary software (when applicable) are pre-

loaded onto the hard drive. We recommend that you save these files to your

computer ("My Documents"/"Verbatim"), to always have a backup of these files in

case you (accidentally) reformat the drive or delete these files from the drive.

Saving these files from the external hard drive to your computer is easy:

1. Click on the button "Save Verbatim files".

2. All provided data on the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive will be saved to the

folder "Verbatim" in "My Documents".

3.1.2 Saving Verbatim data (Mac)

The user manuals and complementary software (when applicable) are pre-

loaded onto the hard drive. We recommend that you save these files to your

computer ("Documents"/ "Verbatim"), to always have a backup of these files in

case you (accidentally) reformat the drive or delete these files from the drive.

Saving these files from the external hard drive to your computer is easy:

1.Click on "Start MAC" in the main directory of the hard drive. The Verbatim

start menu opens.

2. Click on the button "Save Verbatim files".

3. All provided data on the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive will be saved to the

folder "Verbatim" in "Documents".

Chapter 4: Using Verbatim Turbo USB 2.0 (only PC)

By installing the Turbo USB 2.0 driver for your Mobile Hard Drive, the data transfer

rate can be significantly increased (up to 40% faster transfer speed compared

to standard High-Speed USB).

Enabling the Turbo USB 2.0 driver

1. Connect the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive to your PC.

2. Run"StartPC.exe"fromyourMobileHardDriveandgoto"SoftwareInstallation"

-> "Turbo USB 2.0".

3. The Verbatim Turbo USB 2.0 Wizard will open.

4. Check the drive and click on "Configure" to enable the Turbo USB2.0 driver

for the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive.

Disabling the Turbo USB 2.0 driver

1. Connect the Verbatim Mobile Hard Drive to your PC.

2. Run"StartPC.exe"fromyourMobileHardDriveandgoto"SoftwareInstallation"

-> "Turbo USB 2.0".

3. The Verbatim Turbo USB 2.0 Wizard will open. Uncheck the drive and click

on "Configure" to disable the Verbatim Turbo USB 2.0 driver for the Verbatim

Mobile Hard Drive.
