It is recommended that all tapes are removed from drives by customer before
procedure to avoid potential stuck tapes after power-up
If library is installed in a rack, you must have full access to left side of library,
otherwise library must be removed from rack and placed on sturdy and level
work surface with access to power
oIf removal of library from rack is not feasible, contact Spectra Technical Support
for alternate methods of performing this procedure
Use facility-approved safe method to move library into/out of rack. Work
surface must safely support weights noted below:

Spectra recommends exporting all TeraPacks via TAP prior to removing library
from rack

If library is removed from rack with TeraPacks remaining in library:
oBefore power up, verify all TeraPacks are correctly positioned in all
chambers
TeraPacks must be flush with end of plastic guide rails on shelves
Guide rails and bottom of TeraPacks have molded-in detents to assist
in positioning TeraPacks correctly in chambers
Incorrectly positioned TeraPacks can result in damage to robotics
and/or media
Do not use alcohol to clean ANY sensor in library - damage to sensor will result

1. Power library off using front panel power button, disconnect all library power
cables from rear of library
2. Remove left side bottom service access panel
Remove screws, pull upward on panel to remove it
3. Remove top service panels
T200/T380: 2 panels
T680: 3 panels
4. Holding sides (only) of VAX column and centered vertically on column, pull VAX
column towards you until it rests against hard stop on library chassis.
5. Verify horizontal slot in top HAX rod coupler is not obstructed by either top or
bottom sections of HAX rod. This can be done visually or by sliding a business card
through slot
6. If coupler slot is obstructed by either top or bottom section of HAX rod
Using a 7/64” Allen wrench, loosen both coupler screws
Slide coupler up/down as required so slot is not obstructed
oTighten top coupler screw only - bottom screw to remain loose
Lower rod must rotate freely and independently of top rod

7. If slot is NOT obstructed by either top or bottom section of HAX rod
Using a 7/64” Allen wrench, check/confirm top coupler screw is tight
Loosen bottom coupler screw
oLower rod must rotate freely and independently of top rod
8. While gripping sides of VAX column at vertical center, firmly pull column towards
you until it rests against BOTH top and bottom hard stops on library chassis
Tighten bottom coupler screw
Check/confirm top coupler screw tight
9. Release VAX column and push column into library a few inches.
10. While gripping sides of VAX column at vertical center, firmly pull column towards
you until it rests against both top and bottom hard stops on library chassis, then
release column
Column should remain in contact with both top and bottom hard stops
If column moves away from either or both hard stops, loosen bottom coupler
screw (only) and repeat alignment Steps 7 - 10
oIf after 2 alignment attempts, column still moves away from either hard stop
when released, contact Spectra Technical Support
11. Reconnect library power cables
Risk of injury, do not place any part of your body into library with service
panels removed and library power cables connected
12. Power on library and observe robotics initialization. As part of initialization
sequence, robotics will scan a set of predetermined shelf flags

attached to metal shelving in library
13. If robotics makes multiple attempts at scanning any individual shelf flag, this may
indicate a potential problem, perform following steps

Power off library using front panel power button
Disconnect all library power cables from rear of library
Using a lint-free and alcohol-free cloth, clean both shelf flag sensors on
transporter (one sensor faces front of library, the other faces rear)
Verify all shelves in library are installed correctly
Verify all TeraPack guide rails are installed correctly
If robotics continues to exhibit this behavior, contact Spectra Technical Support
14. Reconnect power cables, power on library using front panel power button
15. Log in as superuser or administrator
16. From toolbar menu, select
Maintenance > Diagnostics > VAX Column Alignment Test, then Run Diagnostic
17. Results of diagnostic will be displayed on screen
18. If result is “Success,” proceed to step 20
19. If result is “Failed”
Power off library, disconnect all power cables from rear of library
Repeat steps 7 - 11
Rerun alignment diagnostic
If after 2 alignment attempts, diagnostic test still indicates “Failed”, contact
Spectra Technical Support
20. Power off library, replace service access panels (starting top to bottom)
21. Re-install library into rack (if removed)
22. Create an Auto-support Log File (ASL) and forward to Spectra Technical Support
Obtain permission from customer prior to performing this step
ASL’s do not contain sensitive customer information such as passwords,
encryption keys etc.

23. Library can be returned to normal operation
