OPERATION The SIEMENS Model HLIM Loop Isolator Module solates short c rcu ts on F reF nder-

XLS analog loops. By plac ng dev ces between HLIMs dur ng nstallat on, a short n

the w r ng w th n that group s d sconnected from the rest of the loop. The rema nder

The HLIM-1 Loop Isolator Module

does not have a loop address and therefore does not requ re address programm ng

nor does t reduce the loop capac ty below 252 dev ces.

Remove all system power before installation, first the battery and then the AC.

INSTALLATION The HLIM s a polar ty nsens t ve module. Refer to F gure 1 for the locat on of the

two nput term nals and two output term nals. L ne 1 and L ne 2 can be e ther l ne of

the loop.

The HLIM may be used n two c rcu t conf gurat ons as follows:

Class B (See F gure 2) In Class B w r ng each HLIM solates a branch on the c rcu t. Note that

a short on the ma n branch causes the ent re loop to fa l. To prevent th s, mount the

HLIMs at the F reF nder-XLS enclosure and run each branch ndependently.

of the dev ces cont nue

to operate. The HLIM

operates n both Class A

and Class B c rcu ts.

A yellow LED flashes

when a dev ce detects a

short c rcu t. The HLIM

then solates that part of

the loop. When the short

s removed, the HLIM

automat cally restores

the loop to normal

operat on. The HLIM

Class A S ngle Loop (See F gure 3) In Class A w r ng the HLIMs are w red n ser es w th the loop w r ng.

Th s results n a s ngle cont nuous loop. If any group n the loop has a short, that

group s lost and a Class A c rcu t fa lure results. The F reF nder-XLS d splays commu-

n cat on errors for the dev ces and a Class A fa lure for the loop tself.

18 AWG.

4. The total wire resistance

(both wires) between HLIMs

cannot exceed 0 ohms.

5. Do not install more than 15

HLIMs per DLC loop.

6. All circuits are supervised.
