Safe Servicing Practices

Avoid personal injury and/or property damage by observing important Safe Servicing Practices.

Following are some limited examples of safe practices:

1. DO NOT attempt a product repair if you have any doubts as to your ability to complete the repair in a safe and

satisfactory manner.

2. Always Use The Correct Replacement Parts as indicated in the parts documentation. Substitutions may defeat

compliance with Safety Standards Set For Home Appliances. Do not exceed maximum recommended wattage on

light bulb replacements. Doing so could blow fuses and/or damage transformers.

3. Before servicing or moving an appliance:

cuit breaker to the OFF position, or remove fuse.

4. Never interfere with the proper operation of any safety device.

5. Use ONLY REPLACEMENT PARTS CATALOGED FOR THIS APPLIANCE. Substitutions may defeat compliance with

Safety Standards Set For Home Appliances.

6. GROUNDING: The standard color coding for safety ground wires is GREEN, or GREEN with YELLOW STRIPES.

Ground leads are not to be used as current carrying conductors. It is EXTREMELY important that the service

technician reestablish all safety grounds prior to completion of service.

Failure to do so will create a hazard.

7. Prior to returning the product to service, ensure that:

secured away from sharp edges, high-temperature components,

and moving parts.

parts and panels.

Section 1 Basic Information

1-3

This service manual is intended for use by persons having electrical and mechanical training and a

level of knowledge of these subjects generally considered acceptable in the appliance repair trade.

Electrolux home products cannot be responsible, nor assume any liability, for injury or damage of

any kind arising from the use of this manual.

ÉßÎÒ×ÒÙ

The power supply cord contains a current device that senses damage to the power cord. To test your

power supply cord do the following:

1. Plug in the Air Conditioner.

2. The power supply cord will have TWO buttons on the plug head. Press the TEST button. You will

notice a click as the RESET button pops out.

3. Press the RESET button. Again you will notice a click as the button engages.

4. The power supply cord is now supplying electricity to the unit. (On some products this is also indi-

cated by a light on the plug head).

Notes

1. Do not use this device to turn the unit on or off.

2. Always make sure the RESET button is pushed in for correct operation.

3. The power supply cord must be replaced if it fails to reset when either the TEST button is

pushed, or it cannot be reset. A new one can be obtained from the product manufacturer.

4. If power supply cord is damaged, it CANNOT be repaired, it MUST be replaced by

one obtained from the product manufacturer.

Read all instructions before using this air conditioner.

Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other

appliance. Read product labels for flammability and other warnings.

ÉßÎÒ×ÒÙ

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury to persons when using your air conditioner, follow

basic precautions, including the following:

1. Be sure the electrical service is adequate for the model you have chosen. This information can

be found on the serial plate, which is located either on the side of the cabinet or behind the grille.

2. If the air conditioner is to be installed in a window, you will probably want to clean both sides of

the glass first. If the window is a triple-track type with a screen panel included, remove the screen

completely before installation.

3. Be sure the air conditioner has been securely and correctly installed according to the separate

installation instructions provided with the unit.

4. Save this manual and the installation instructions for possible future use in removing or reinstalling

this unit.

ÉßÎÒ×ÒÙ

Electrical Information

The electrical rating of the room air conditioner is

stated on the serial plate. Refer to the rating when

checking the electrical requirements.

1. Be sure the air conditioner is properly grounded.

To minimize shock and fire hazards, proper

grounding is important. The power cord is

equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for

protection against shock hazards.

2. The air conditioner is to be used in a properly

grounded wall receptacle. If the wall receptacle

is to be used is not adequately grounded or pro-

tected by a time delay fuse or circuit breaker,

have a qualified electrician install the proper

receptacle.

3. Do not run air conditioner with outside protective

cover in place. This could result in mechanical

damage within the air conditioner.

4. When handling the air conditioner, be careful to

avoid cuts from sharp metal fins on front and rear

coils.

5. Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.

Electronic Controls

Set the room temperature at the preferred comfort level.

Electronic controls and convenient temperature readout

ensures the unit is set at the precise comfort level you

require. All electronic models maintain the temperature to

be within 2 degrees of the set temperature.

Anti-Microbial Filter & Clean Air Puri

cation

Enjoy a cool, comfortable room with air cleaned by a

patented clean air anti-microbial

lter, which reduces bac-

teria, odors and other particles. The clean air puri

cation

also improves air quality above standard

lter methods

resulting in relief for allergy and respiratory ailment

sufferers.

Auto Cool

Energy Saver

Energy Saver mode cycles the fan and compressor until

the room temperature increases above the set tem-

perature, then returns to normal operation until the set

temperature in the room is again reached.

Note: Fan starts at High Speed and sdjusts to a slower

speed as the room temperature dictates. For example

if the room does not get too warm, it will stay at the

slowest speed. If the room temperature rises quickly,

such as a door being opened, it will automatically go to

the highest speed. The fan speeds will re-adjust back

to the slowest speed as the room returns to the original

set temperature. Press either the fan slower (v) or fan

faster button (^) to adjust the fan speed manually.

How to Choose a Room Air Conditioner

Compared to large capacity central units, room air conditioners have several advantages. The initial cost of a room air

conditioning unit is signi

cantly lower that the cost of central air. Because room air conditioners are designed for

cooling small spaces, operating costs are reduced. And, r

oom air conditioners can provide personalized temperature

and humidity controls that central systems cannot.

Calculating Cooling Capacity

Cooling capacity is the critical factor in properly selecting a room air conditioner. Cooling capacity is measured in Brit-

ish Thermal Units (BTUs) and typical models will range in capacity from 5,000 BTUs to 28,500 BTUs. Choosing an

undersized unit will overwork the unit and it will not cool properly. Choosing an oversized unit will cost more to buy

and operate and it will not dehumidify properly. Your dealer can help you to calculate capacity. Be prepared to provide

speci

c information on:

Cooling Capacity by Room Size

Measure the length and width of the area to be cooled. Multiply the length by the width to determine square footage

or square meters. Locate the room size in the chart below to

select the appropriate BTUs. Then use the product infor-

mation to select the unit for your room.
