IBM N Series Quick guide

System Setup 1.2 Installation and Configuration Instructions

About System Setup

System Setup enables you to quickly and easily set up your N3150, N3220, and N3240 storage systems

using best practices and optimizing performance. You can use this software to configure your network,

storage, and protocols with either a single storage controller or HA pair. You do not need additional

licensing to use the software, and System Setup supports CIFS, NFS, and iSCSI protocols.

You can download System Setup from IBM N series support website.

About configuration worksheet

While setting up your storage systems by using System Setup, you need to provide configuration

information. Use the editable configuration worksheet to gather this information before configuring your

storage systems.

Installing and configuring System Setup

Procedure

1. Complete the configuration worksheet.

2. Cable the Windows client and storage controllers to the same LAN or VLAN.

3. Download the System Setup installer (IBM_SystemSetup.exe) from IBM N series support website on

your Windows client.

6. Select the Discover Normally option and then click Discover to detect the connected storage

controllers.

Note: Ensure that storage controllers are powered off and all power supplies are off. After you click

Discover, System Setup searches for storage controllers on the local network. You can power

on the storage controllers within 3 minutes of their discovery.

Note: If the controllers cannot be discovered, ensure that firewall and anti-virus software on your

Windows client are disabled.

7. Click Next to configure network settings.

System Setup also serves as a DHCP server initially and DHCP IP addresses are served to the

controllers.

2

8. Configure network settings by entering the values from the configuration worksheet.

3

9. Select the No thanks, I prefer to configure disks manually option and then click Next.

You can use OnCommand System Manager or console to configure storage later.

4

10. Review the settings and click Finish.
