Overview

Installation of the HP StoreEasy 3830 Gateway

Storage Blade requires the following steps:

1. Install and configure an HP BladeSystem c-Class

enclosure.

2. Install interconnect modules in the enclosure.

3. Connect the interconnect modules to the network.

4. Install the blade(s).

5. Complete the blade solution configuration.

IMPORTANT: The HP System Recovery DVD

is included with the 3830 Gateway Storage

Blade. This DVD is used to restore the system to

factory defaults. Keep this DVD in a safe place.

Record network information

It is critical to have the correct networking information

available before proceeding with the system

installation and configuration. It may be necessary to

pre-stage DNS information. Contact your system

administrator to clarify network configuration

requirements.

IMPORTANT: Before joining the StoreEasy

system nodes to the Active Directory domain,

ensure that there is network connectivity between

each node and the domain controller.

The StoreEasy 3830 requires a minimum of 2 IP

addresses. These addresses may be statically assigned

or assigned by a DHCP server or both. If you are using

static addressing or a DHCP server that does not

automatically update DNS, ensure that both forward

and reverse DNS information (A and PTR records) is

pre-staged in the DNS server.

Use Table 1 (page 1) to document your network

information before proceeding with system setup.

Validate network information

Confirm that the IP address and names are not already

in use.

Complete the tests in Table 2 (page 2) to verify

network connectivity. Consult with your network

administrator to confirm test results.

Additionally, verify that the DNS information is valid

for the cluster and file server. HP recommends that you

also verify the iLO and Enclosure Manager IP

address/name resolution; however, this is not critical

to support the cluster and file server.

Installing an HP BladeSystem c-Class

enclosure

Before performing any blade-specific procedures,

install an HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure.

The most current documentation for blades and other

HP BladeSystem components is available on the

documentation CD that ships with the enclosure and

at the following HP website:

Installing blade options

Before installing and initializing the blades, install any

blade options, such as an additional mezzanine card.

For blade options installation information, see the HP

ProLiant BL460c Gen8 Server Blade User Guide on

the documentation CD that ships with the enclosure

Installing interconnect modules

For specific steps to install interconnect modules, see

the documentation that ships with the interconnect

module.

To support network connections for specific signals,

install an interconnect module in the bay corresponding

to the embedded NIC or mezzanine signals.

Connecting to the network

To connect the HP BladeSystem to a network, each

enclosure must be configured with network interconnect

devices to manage signals between the blades and

the external network.

Two types of interconnect modules are available for

HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosures:

•Pass-thru modules

•Switch modules

IMPORTANT: If your product is

factory-integrated, the blades are pre-installed

in the enclosure.

CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and

thermal damage, do not operate the blade or

the enclosure unless all hard drive and device

bays are populated with either a component or

a blank.

Installation procedure

1. Remove the blank.

2. Remove the enclosure connector cover.

3. Install the HP 3830 Gateway Storage Blade.

Powering on the server blade

If the enclosure is powered on, the server blade begins

its power on sequence as soon as it is installed. If the

default Onboard Administrator setting has been

changed and the server blade does not power on,

press and release the power button on the server blade

or use a virtual power button via iLO.

You must access the server console to complete the

setup.

Accessing the server console

For initial setup, there are two ways to access the

server console:

•Using iLO

•Attaching the provided SUV cable to the front of

the server blade and then attaching a monitor,

keyboard, and mouse.

Once the server blade has been configured and IP

addresses assigned, you may also connect to the

server blade using a remote desktop connection.

For iLO access, use the enclosure Onboard

Administrator to identify the iLO IP address of the

server blade, then connect a remote web browser to

that address. The factory assigned iLO DNS name and

iLO Administrator password are provided on a pull-out

tab at the front of the server blade. In the browser, log

on to iLO as Administrator, then open a remote console

to the server blade.

Completing the Windows configuration

When prompted, enter the default Windows

Administrator password (HPinvent!). Then, the Setup

Windows wizard is displayed, in which you select

language and regional settings and accept the license

agreement. After installing some additional software,

the server blade reboots.

After the reboot, log on as the local administrator. The

Initial Configuration Tasks (ICT) window starts

automatically. Complete the tasks in sequential order

to complete the configuration of the system. For more

information on any task, click the help icon for the

appropriate task group in the ICT window.

Creating a Windows failover cluster

(optional)

Multiple HP 3830 Gateway Storage Blades are often

deployed as a Windows failover cluster to offer highly

available file services for SAN storage. If you are

deploying a cluster, install and configure each server

blade using the instructions in this document. Then,

see the HP StoreEasy 3000 Online Help for additional

information about creating the cluster.

IMPORTANT: HP strongly recommends that

you validate your configuration when using

clusters. Whether you create a cluster through

the ICT or the Failover Cluster Manager, one of

the first steps is validating your configuration

using the Microsoft cluster validation tool. If you

choose to skip the validation step, you can still

validate the cluster after it is created.
