Introduction

Welcome to the Foundation™Product Information Guide. This guide demonstrates the

power up and login procedures for the Foundation rigging controller. Operation information

can be found in the Foundation help system.

Document Conventions

The following symbols may be used throughout this manual to alert you to danger or

important information.

ETC's technical documentation is designed for printed or electronic use. However, there

are many bonuses to using the electronic (.PDF) versions of our documents. Aside from

having all of the benefits of a PDF (such as word find, bookmarks, and commenting tools)

ETC documents include the ability to click headings in the Table of Contents or Index and

jump to the desired page. Also, our cross-references (indicated in blue italics like this:

Help From ETC Technical Services

If you are having difficulties, your most convenient resources are the references given in

this guide and the Foundation help system. If these resources are insufficient, contact ETC

Technical Services directly at one of the offices identified below. Emergency service is

available from all ETC offices outside of normal business hours.

When calling for support, please try to have the following information handy:

• Product model

• Software version (see Identifying the Software Version below)

• Other components in your system (number of hoists, external E-Stop stations, etc.)

Identifying the Software Version

To identify the version of your Foundation control software, press the power button located

in the top left corner of the rotating panel. The software version is displayed in the lower left

corner of the LCD screen during the startup and system test, then again in the dialog box

as the system runs its diagnostics.

The software version can also be found after login in the main menu.

Step 1: Push the menu button (ETC logo) found in the lower left corner of the LCD

screen.

Step 2: Choose SETTINGS from the pop up menu.

The Station tab defaults to open. In this tab you will find the software version number.

Responsible Use of Rigging Equipment

The operation of ETC Rigging™equipment requires responsible use and specific training.

Only authorized, trained personnel should operate rigging hoists and their associated

control stations. Unauthorized use, alteration, or use for situations other than those for

which it was designed may cause damage to the equipment, other property damage, or

injury to persons, potentially of a severe nature. All safety precautions must be observed

and adhered to at all times.

Read and obey the following warning statements to ensure safe and consistent use of your

ETC Rigging system.

WARNING:

Only properly trained and authorized persons should operate ETC Rigging

systems. Operation by untrained persons may result in damage to the

system, other property damage, serious injury, or death.

WARNING:

When operating an ETC Prodigy Hoist, the user must have an unobstructed

view of the entire line set and its attached load. If the user’s view is

obstructed, a second person (spotter) MUST be used to assist the operator

at all times. The spotter must have an unobstructed view of all moving

components and be able to maintain clear communication with the operator

at all times.

If a problem arises while a hoist is moving (such as a mechanical issue or

interference from other objects) stop movement immediately by releasing

the move button or using the Emergency Stop button. If a spotter sees a

problem while a hoist is moving, the spotter must signal the user to stop

movement immediately.

WARNING:

ETC Prodigy hoists must only be used to move a maximum load equal to or

less than the capacity of your specific hoist. Overloading the hoist may

result in damage to the system, other property damage, serious injury, or

death.

WARNING:

ETC Prodigy hoists and Foundation control equipment should not be

operated by a user until installation and configuration have been completed

by an ETC trained and approved technician. Only ETC trained and approved

technicians are authorized to operate equipment during the installation and

configuration process.

WARNING:

ETC Prodigy hoists and Foundation control equipment are designed for the

raising and lowering of theatrical equipment within the approved hoist

capacity only. This equipment is not designed to lift or automate personnel

and such use is strictly prohibited.

WARNING:

Disconnect power before servicing this equipment.

Working Load Limit (WLL)

The Working Load Limit (WLL) of any hoist is the maximum load capacity that a user may

apply to a hoist or hoist system.

All Prodigy hoists have a Working Load Limit. This is identified on the product label on the

back of the hoist and on the batten label. This limit is not the same for all hoists, so be sure

to check the Working Load Limit for all hoists in your system. Prodigy Working Load Limits

include a design-safety factor.

NEVER exceed the Working Load Limit for any hoist.

WARNING:

• Do not exceed point load, Uniform Distributed Load (UDL), or Working

Load Limit (WLL) for any line set. See label on batten for POINT, UDL,

and WLL.

• Point, distributed, and working load limits may be different for each

hoist.

• Do not suspend persons from the hoist or any of its components.

• Do not ride on the batten.

• Do not operate equipment if unusual noises are heard coming from it.

• Do not operate equipment if unusual smells are coming from it.

• In the event of an Emergency Stop (E-Stop) do not restart the equipment

until the cause of the E-stop is identified and resolved.

• Never lock or jam the operating buttons in the depressed (“on”)

position. These hold down buttons must be manned by a competent

person at all times.

• Use the remote control pendant when the load is obscured from this

operator position or have someone observe the load while it is moving.

• The operator must never leave the controller when the hoist is in motion.

• Log out of Foundation when a competent or qualified person is not

present.

• Disconnect or lock out power to the Prodigy Powerhead or Foundation

controller before servicing the interior of the systems.

• Keep moisture away from the Prodigy Powerhead and Foundation

controller.

• Always inspect and test the Prodigy hoisting system and Foundation

controls before each use.

• Perform regular inspection and maintenance per the instruction manual.

• The system must be inspected annually by a qualified ETC Rigging

inspector.

Powering Up the Console

Step 1: If your console is in the closed and locked position, insert the key and unlock it.

Step 2: Rotate the barrel towards you to reveal the button and joystick panel.

Step 3: The power button can be found on the top left corner of the panel. Push this

button to power up the console. The LCD screen will illuminate and Foundation

will run its system diagnostics.

To login to Foundation:

Step 1: Press the Login button.

The user login will open.

Step 2: Select your authorized user account.

Step 3: Enter the four digit code on the pin pad.

Step 4: Press “OK”.

You will now have access to the options and features of your user level.

Accessing the Help System

Help system files are included in the system software ensuring they always match the

software version. Once you are logged in you will have access to the help system.

To access the Foundation help system:

Step 1: Press the Menu button (ETC logo) found in the lower left corner of the LCD

screen.

Step 2: Choose HELP from the pop up menu. When the system has loaded you’ll see the

following Welcome screen.

From this welcome screen, you will be able to search the files using the table of contents,

index or search function.

• Visit the Manual Movement chapter to become more familiar with the manual

movement screen.

Note:

User levels and codes are set by the system administrator. See your Foundation

system administrator to obtain the proper user level or code.
