1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of the document

The repair instructions:

►guide the service technician in troubleshooting and repairing

domestic appliances

►assist the technical storeman in deciding which spare parts are

probably required for the repair

►inform trainers and technical personnel about design, function,

troubleshooting and repairs

►as supporting documentation support the training of the technical

personnel

Apart from the repair instructions the service technician uses the

following documents:

►Parts list

►Exploded drawing

►Circuit diagrams

The described troubleshooting and repair may be carried out a service

technician only.

These repair instructions are assigned to specific appliances and are

valid for those appliances only.

2 SAFETY

2.1 Qualifications of service technicians

The described activities may be carried out only by electrical engineers

and electrical engineers for specific activities if they have been trained

by BSH or an authorised establishment.

An electrical engineer is one who, on account of his specialist training,

knowledge and experience as well as his knowledge of the relevant

regulations, can asses the work assigned to him and identify potential

hazards.

An electrical enginner for specific activities is a person who is instruct-

ed and, if required, trained by an electrical engineer on the work

assigned to him and the potential hazards of improper behaviour and

who was instructed on the required protective devices and protective

measures.

Observe country-specific regulations.

2.2 Identification of danger levels

Identification Meaning

DANGER Imminent danger which may result in death or

serious injury if it is not avoided.

WARNING Potentially imminent danger which may result in

death or serious injury if it is not avoided.

CAUTION

Potentially imminent danger which may result in minor

injury or damage to property if it is not avoided

2.4 General safety instructions

►Read repair manual and follow the instructions included in it.

►Proceed systematically and follow the instructions for

troubleshooting and repairs.

►When repairs are complete, check the effectiveness of the protect-

tive measures in accordance with VDE 0701 or the corresponding

country-specific regulations and perform a function test.

If the test is not passed, clearly identify the appliance as not safe

and inform the operator in writing.

The test for the effectiveness of the protective measures must be

documented in a suitable manner. It is recommended to write

down the measured values.

►Use only conductors which comply with the currently valid health

and safety regulations at work.

Exposed live parts

Danger to life caused by electric shock!

►Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.

►Do not touch housing, frame or components.

►Use residual-current-operated circuit-breaker if tests

have to be conducted while the appliance is live.

►Ensure that the resistance of the protective conductor

does not exceed the standardised values.

WARNING

Exposed conductive parts may be live if a fault has

occurred.

Danger to life caused by electric shock!

►Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.

►Do not touch housing, frame or components.

►Use residual-current-operated circuit-breaker if tests

have to be conducted while the appliance is live.

►Ensure that the resistance of the protetive conductor

does not exceed the standardised values.

3 CONSTRUCTION AND FUNCTION

3.1 Operation

3.1.1 Fluff Clean

1 Fluff Clean symbol

3.1.1.1 Function

This programme removes fluff deposits from the lower area of the

drying circuit by gently spinning with water.

The time at which the programme is to run is specified automatically

by the washer dryer and by the Fluff Clean symbol

(Fluff Clean) is indicated on the display.

The symbol is lit until the programme has started.

3.1.1.2 Running the programme:

1. Drum empty and door closed

2. Move porgramme selector to “Fluff Clean”

3. Press (Start/Pause) button

The programme can also be run at any time without a request from

the appliance. It is recommended to run the programme approx. every

10 drying cycles.

3.1.2 Flexi Time

►Setting the wash duration: normal-medium-minimum.

►Flexi Time is not possible if the “Intensive” option has been

selected.

The saved washing time is not compensated by

temperature or mechanical washing action!

Childproof lock

3.1.2.1 Activation

Simultaneously press the “Option” and “Set/Select” buttons. When the

childproof lock is activated, the key symbol is lit on the display.

3.1.2.2 Deactivation

Simultaneously press the Option and Set/Select buttons for 3 s.

Attention!

►When the appliance is switched off, the childproof

lock is deactivated!

3.2 Imbalance detection function

If an imbalance occurs, the ramp is terminated before the spin cycle.

There is a limited number of attempts.

3.2.1 Appliances running at 500/600 rpm

3.3 Drying cycle

During the drying cycle the fan (2) blows air into the heating duct (10).

The air is heated there and then transferred into the drum and

washing solution tub via the gasket (9).

The warm air absorbs the humidity from the washing and is drawn by

the fan through a connecting piece (5) into the vortex condenser (4).

To support this process, cooling water is sprayed in via a solenoid

valve (1) to cool the air. This process is controlled by evaluation of the

temperatures on the NTCs of the drying cycle.

Surplus water is pumped out of the water solution tub via the drain

pump (7).

At the start of the drying programme a warm spin cycle is run as soon

as a temperature of 54 °C has been reached on the NTC in the

tub (NTCD1).

3.4 Dryer heater

3.4.1 Design

As the new heating duct contains 2x 920 W heating elements, the

drying process can be implemented in 2 stages with a total of 1840 W.

To reduce heat losses, the heating duct is thermally separated from

the fan by a seal.

3.4.3 Function

The temperature is controlled by an NTC at the inlet to the gasket.

Cottons/coloureds: 87 °C–90 °C

Easy care: 67 °C–70 °C

Safety temperature:105 °C Îerror message!

In addition a resettable safety temperature controller monitors the

maximum permitted temperature. (150 °C)

During the warm spin cycle (54 UpM) only one heating element is

actuated!
