New Born Baby’s Body Temperature Management
Check new born baby’s body temperature by calculating the mean value, after measuring the baby’s body
temperature at a certain time in the morning and in the evening, respectively, for several days. Body
temperature can change 0.5℃according to environmental change. For example, when body temperature
is 36.7℃at 8 o’clock in the morning and 37.3℃at 8 o’clock at night, the range of normal body
temperature is 36.7℃~37.3℃, and mean body temperature is 37℃. If the new born baby’s body
temperature is higher by more than 1℃, compared with mean body temperature, the baby is regarded as
having a fever.
It is good to maintain indoor temperature between 24℃and 26℃and indoor humidity between 40% and
60%. A thermometer and a hygrometer in winter need to be placed in line with the height of a new born
baby’s living space.
In case washing a new born baby, maintain the surrounding temperature between 24℃and 27℃, and
wash the baby with water between 38℃and 40℃for about 5 minutes.
Clean moisture adequately, after washing the baby, and replenish water making the baby drink barley
tea or juice. In winter, it is good to wash a new born baby from 11:00 to 14:00. If sweats cool down due
to cold air, the baby may catch a cold or his/her cheeks or hands are likely to get chapped.
Mothers need to understand that breast-fed babies take mother’s milk in a certain range of temperature
similar to body temperature, and therefore it is good to maintain the temperature of dry milk at 38℃.
