SECTION 1: SAFETY

INSTRUCTIONS

Please read this section carefully

General

It is essential that this product is installed correctly, in particular with respect to

persons safety, connection of the mains electricity supply, and connection to the

Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

This product is not suitable for installation, maintenance or connection by the user.

Installation and maintenance must be carried out by a competent qualified installer

(e.g. to the requirements of the relevant public telecommunications operator).

It is a condition of the product approval that the installer complies with the follow-

ing:

Siting

The control must be sited internally in a secure area where it cannot be readily inter-

fered with, but in a location where there is adequate ventilation, ample light, and is

easily accessible for servicing and maintenance. It is not suitable for siting exter-

nally or in harsh environments where it could be subject to high humidity, extremes

oftemperature, chemical atmospheres,highdust levels, orina position whereitmay

be subject to dripping of or splashing with water or other fluids.

Fixing

The control must be securely fixed to a vertical smooth solid surface which is part of

the fabric of the building. The position chosen must allow the cabinet door to be

removed and allow unhindered access for installation and maintenance. Remove

the cabinet lid by loosening the top two screws, open the top then lift off from the

bottomlip. Decide onthecable entry positions(referto cablingsection)and remove

knockouts at this point. Using the template provided, mark the three fixing hole

positions on the wall. Drill and plug a solid wall and fit the top fixing screw (recom-

mended 1.5" x No.8 minimum) 1mm proud of the surface. Hang the control cabinet

by means of the keyhole fixing and fit the remaining two screws securely. In case of

cavity walls, use proper toggle or butterfly fixings.

Ventilation

While the control has been designed so that no part attains an unsafe temperature, it

is important that adequate ventilation is provided around the cabinet. It is important

therefore that other heat-radiating equipment or sources of heat are not positioned

close to the cabinet.

Cabling

The product has high voltage barriers between the mains supply (excessive voltage),

the alarm wiring terminals (safe extra low voltage), and the telephone line terminals

(Telecom network voltage). Each control is individually tested before it leaves the

factory to ensure the integrity of these barriers. It is essential that these barriers are

maintained in the way the cables enter the cabinet, are routed inside the cabinet, and

routed externally. The routing of the cables as shown in the diagram must be fol-

lowed precisely.

Knockouts, rear entry points and a trunking entry point is provided for cable entries.

Additional holes must not be cut in the enclosure. Where necessary, the cable must

be protected at the entry point by the use of grommets. The cables external to the

cabinet must be either firmly affixed to the fabric of the building using suitable clips

or saddles, or mechanically protected in conduit or trunking. Alarm system cables

must not be allowed to loop inside the cabinet – they must be trimmed as shown.

It must not be possible to put strain on the wiring within the control cabinet by

pulling on cable external to the cabinet.

Knockoutsor the trunkingentrypointmust only beremovedifcables are toenterthe

cabinet at that point. The hole must be covered by the trunking or conduit or by

means of a blanking grommet.

It must not be possible to push a finger or similar size object or instrument into any

hole or cable entry point.

Mains Supply Connections

WARNING: THIS APPARATUS MUST BE EARTHED

Connection to the mains supply must be made by a competent, qualified person

(e.g., NICEIC-approved) in accordance with the current IEE and local supply regu-

lations. The earth impedance of the mains input earth must be verified.

A means of isolation from the mains supply must be provided within 2 metres of the

control. This is normally a switched fused spur fitted with a 3 amp fuse.

Where a flexible cable is connected to the control having cores coloured green-and-

yellow, brown, and blue, it is important to connect the wires according to the follow-

ing code:

Green-and-yellow: Earth – connect to terminal marked E.

Blue: Neutral – connect to terminal N.

Brown: Live – connect to terminal L.

Where a non-flexible cable is connected to the control having cores coloured red,

black, and a green-and-yellow sleeve covering the earthing conductor, it is impor-

tant to connect the wires according to the following code:

Green-and-yellow: Earth – connect to terminal marked E.

Black: Neutral: – connect to terminal N.

Red: Live: – connect to terminal L.

The insulation of each conductor must be prepared and connected such that no part

of the bare conductor is visible or protruding outside the terminal block, and in the

caseofstandardconductors,thatall thestrandsaretwistedtogetherandfirmlyclamped

in the terminal. Each of the wires must be cut to a length such that, if the cable slips

out of the cable clamp and is strained, the live conductor will become taut before the

conductorthat isconnectedto the protectiveearthterminal. The outercoveringinsu-

lation must be clamped under the cable clamp provided. It is important that this

cable enters the cabinet through the hole provided, is not looped within the control,

and does not run close to other system cables inside or external to the control.

The cover of the cabinet must not be opened before isolating the mains supply. A

green LED on the main PCB indicates the presence of AC mains supply. The cover

must be securely fastened in normal use.

Cable Type

The conductors of the mains supply cable must be of a minimum cross-sectional

area of 0.75mm, and the insulating material on each conductor must be a minimum

of 0.4mm thick polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Flexible cables must conform to the

requirementsofIECPublication227. Non-flexibleelectrical installation cables must

conformtoBS6004andthe earth continuity conductor mustbecoveredwithagreen-

and-yellow sleeve where it leaves the outer sheath.

Fuses

The mains fuse in the fuseholder within the cabinet is rated at 2 amps.

The mains supply must be disconnected before opening the cabinet and changing

the fuse. Replace this fuse with the same type and rating, i.e.:

Rating: 2 amps

Construction: Ceramic cartridge, sand filled

Dimensions: 1 inch lengt 0.25 inch diameter.

Conformance:BS 1362.

Equipment Rating

The control equipment is designed to operate on a mains supply of 240 volts AC at

a frequency of 50Hz. It is not suitable for other types of supply. The maximum

current consumption in normal use is 100mA.

Batteries

The battery used in the control must be a 12-volt sealed lead-acid rechargeable bat-

tery of up to 6 ampere-hour capacity.

The battery must be positioned on the battery shelf in an upright position with the

terminals at the top.

Terminals marked Excessive Voltage are for connection for 240V AC 50Hz mains supply

only.

Terminals marked SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) are for connection to other devices

in the alarm system only.

Terminals marked TNV (Telephone Network Voltage) are for connection to the PSTN via

an NTE5 Master Socket only.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the Vista control panel in accordance with the safety instructions. A

keyhole slot is provided for the top fixing; it is not necessary to remove the

circuit board.

2. Fit and connect the main remote keypad, as shown in Figure 2.1 PCB

Connections.

Note: Data Out on the keypad connects to Data Out on the control panel;

Data In on the keypad connects to Data In on control panel.

3. Fit and connect mains power.

4. Close and secure the control lid.

5. The display should read:

TO TEST OPERATION OF THE PANEL:

Enter 1 2 3 4 + [OFF]. The keypad should give a confirmation beep.

Enter 1 2 3 4 + [AWAY] to arm control (After 30 seconds the system will

set.)

Enter 1 2 3 4 + [OFF] to disarm the system.

This confirms control and keypad are operating correctly.

6. Remove a.c. power before opening the control panel.

7. Connect the system wiring making reference to Figure 2.2; pay particular

attention to cable routing.

8. Connect battery, re-fit the enclosure lid and re-apply the a.c. mains power

supply.

9. Complete programming form and make necessary programme changes.

10. Test the system. Enter Engineer code + [TEST]. Observe correct operation

ofsoundersandstrobes.Walktest thesystem,thekeypadswillaudiblyindicate

as each device is tested. To exit test mode enter engineer code + [OFF].

11. Fillintheuserinformation in theusersmanualandhandovertothecustomer;

complete user training.

Summary of Main PCB Connections

Battery / Ground Terminals

GND Equipment Ground Terminal - connection must be intact at all times.

BATT- Battery Negative - Connect to the -ve (black) terminal of the battery.

BATT+ Battery Positive - Connect to the +ve (red) terminal of the battery.

Output Triggers (Terminal PLA)

1. Fire trigger

2. Panic trigger

3. Alarm (Intruder) trigger

4. Tamper trigger - responds to tamper alarms when the system is unset.

When full set, a tamper alarm activates the Alarm output trigger.

5. Fault trigger - responds to low battery, mains fail, memory checksum

failure and watchdog reset.

6. Programme trigger - activates when programming mode is entered.

Power / Keypad Terminals (Terminal PLB)

AC These two terminals connect to the 13 V a.c. output of the mains

transformer. They are not for direct connection to the mains supply.

Data Out Connects to the Data Out (yellow) terminal of each fixed LCD

keypad on the system.

Data In Connects to the Data In (green) terminal of each fixed LCD keypad.

12 AUX Auxiliary 12 V supply - two pairs of terminals are available for

connection of remote keypads and auxiliary fused devices.

Bell / Zone / SW- terminals

1. Switched Negative Supply - This output can be programmed as:

(a) Negative supply for smoke detectors or other latching devices

which require the interruption of the supply to reset. The output is

normally 0 V switching to +12 V for 6 seconds on the second entry

of Code + Off after an alarm condition. The output can also be

activated at any point in the unset state by pressing the Öand 1 keys

together.

(b) Printer data output for a serial printer.

2. Strobe negative - for connection with external strobe negative.

3. Positive bell / strobe supply - common positive, limited by fuse to 1

Amp maximum (labelled F3 in Figure 2.1 PCB Connections).

4. External bell negative - for connection with switched negative trigger

on external bell or SAB switched negative trigger.

5 - 36 Alarm zones 1-8, wired as standard double poll zones. Normally

open devices may be connected between alarm and tamper loops.
