Introduction
The DVR receives text-in data from the POS and displays and saves it with the image. The text
source may be outputted from not only POS devices but any other devices that output text data
through the serial port and network.
NOTE: Maximum number of POS devices is limited to number of channel of DVR.
The following is the typical installation diagram displaying the serial connection among the
POS, printer and DVR.
Terms
•Expanded Serial Cable: Connects the POS and printer to the DVR.
•USB-Serial Converter: Connects the serial cable to the USB port.
•4 / 8 Port USB-Serial Converter: Provides 4-/8-channel serial ports with the USB interface.
•MD6-DB9 Gender: Used for the serial printer with the MD6 type connector.

NOTE: When connecting 10 POS devices to the DVR, one 8-ch, one RS 232, and one RS485
with using RS 232 converter.
The following is the pin connection diagram for connecting the serial expanded cable to the
POS, printer and DVR.
- COM3 is for the DVR or USB-Serial convertor

- COM1 and COM 2 is for the POS/printer
- Connection between the DVR and USB-Serial convertor can be done by USB cable.

NOTE: Default port number from LAN1 to LAN16 for DVR LAN Text-in setting is set from 14001
to 14016 respectively.
NOTE: When connecting POS devices to the DVR via network, IP address of DVR and port
number of LAN Text-in should be registered in POS for text-in transmission.

Text-In Device Setup
Highlight Text-In in the Event menu and press the button. The Text-In setup screen
appears.

The DVR can be set to react to text input from devices such as ATMs (Automated Teller
Machines) and POS (Point of Sale; i.e., cash registers). This screen allows you to configure the
DVR for each text-in device.
Highlight the box under the Setup heading, and press the button. Selecting the Setup
heading changes all the parameters excluding Port settings of all the text input channels.
NOTE: The system performance might be affected when a large quantity of text inputs
are detected from several channels at the same time.
