1) Elevated Operating AmbientTemperature
After installed, the operating temperature may be
greater than room ambient.Consideration shall be
given to the environment temperature compatible
within the Manufacturer’s specified limit of Ambient
Temperature of 0°C – +35°C (32°F – 95°F).
2) Reduced Air Flow
After installed, the amount of air flow required for safe
operation of this equipment shall not be
compromised.

Before installing, refer to rated current on this
equipment and make sure that no overloading to the

Features
• Quad display enables you to simultaneously monitor input
from 4 cameras on one screen.
• Sequential Switcher function enables you to monitor
pictures from each of the 4 cameras one by one on the
screen, or to stop the picture at a particular camera, using
the unit as a high resolution black and white surveillance
monitor.
• Alarm function informs you of anomalies with a buzzer
and flashing alarm sign and switches the picture to the one
from the camera that detected the anomaly.
• In Quad mode, Freeze function enables you to stop the
picture of a selected channel. When replaying on the
VCR, Freeze function enables you to stop the picture
displayed on the screen.
• On-Screen Menu function enables you to set channel, date,
time, and alarm on the screen.
• When the picture or characters on the screen are cut off by
the side end of the screen, you can correct for it by using
the Horizontal Hold (H. Hold) function (on the front
control panel) that shifts and adjusts the picture
horizontally.
• You can set up the unit on a 19 inches rack using Rack
Mount Bracket (RMM-171), which is available as an
optional accessory.

Precautions
Safety
• The unit operates on 120 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
• Should any liquid or solid object fall into the cabinet,
unplug the unit and have it checked by qualified personnel
before operating it any further.
• Unplug the unit from the wall outlet if it is not going to be
used for several days or more. To disconnect the cord, pull
it out by the plug. Never pull the cord itself.
• Allow adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat
build-up. Do not place the unit on surfaces (rugs, blankets,
etc.) or near materials (curtains, draperies) that may block
the ventilation holes.
• Height and vertical linearity controls located at the rear
panel are for special adjustments by qualified personnel
only.
Installation
• Do not install the unit in an extremely hot or humid place
or in a place subject to excessive dust or mechanical
vibration.
• The unit is not designed to be waterproof. Exposure to rain
or water may damage the unit.
Cleaning
Clean the unit with a lightly damp soft cloth. Use a mild
household detergent. Never use strong solvents such as
thinner or benzine as they might damage the finish of the
unit.
If you have any question or problem concerning your unit
that is not covered in this manual, please consult your
nearest Sony dealer.

1INPUT select switch
Keep this switch released (øCAMERA) to monitor the
signal from the CAMERA IN connector.
Depress this switch (ØVCR) to monitor the signal from the
VCR IN connector.
2H-HOLD (horizontal hold) control
When the picture has slanting horizontal bars, turn the H-
HOLD control in either direction until a stationary picture is
obtained.
3V-HOLD (vertical hold) control
When the picture rolls up or down on the screen, turn the V-
HOLD control until a single stationary picture is obtained.
4BRIGHT (brightness) control
Turn clockwise for a brighter picture and counterclockwise
for a darker picture.
5CONTRAST control
Turn clockwise to increase picture contrast and
counterclockwise to decrease it.
6POWER switch and indicator
To turn on the monitor, depress this switch. The green
indicator lights up.
To turn off the monitor, press the switch again.
7AUTO SWITCHER / QUAD select button
Press this button to choose AUTO SWITCHER mode or
QUAD mode.
8CHANNEL select button
If you have chosen AUTO SWITCHER mode above, the
screen shows pictures from each of the cameras, one at a
time in sequence starting from CH1, and repeats the
sequence over and over. To stop the sequence at a particular
channel, press the button for that channel, the sequence will
stop and the picture stays. To restart the sequence, press the
button again.
If you have chosen QUAD mode, the screen shows
4 channels at the same time. If you press a CHANNEL
button, the channel you have selected shows a FREEZE
picture.
9SET UP (ENTER) button
Press this button to go to MAIN MENU display. To proceed
to SUB MENU or to select an item, press the same button.

1CAMERA IN (BNC) connector
To see a picture from a camera, connect to a video output
connector of a black and white video camera and keep the
INPUT select switch released on the front panel to select
CAMERA.
2VCR IN (BNC) connector
To see a replay on the VCR, connect to a video output
connector of a VCR and press the INPUT select switch on
the front panel to select VCR.
To see a FREEZE picture (still picture), press either of the
four CHANNEL select buttons on the front panel during a
replay. Press the button again to exit FREEZE picture.
3VIDEO OUT (BNC) connector
Connect to a video input connector (VCR or another
device’s video input connector). Outputs a picture that is
currently on the screen selected by operating the AUTO
SWITCHER / QUAD button.
4VCR OUT (BNC) connector
Connect to a video input connector. Outputs quad display
only.

Notes
• When the display shows freeze picture in Quad mode,
VCR OUT (BNC) connector will also output freeze
picture.
• When playing back on the VCR (when the INPUT select
switch is down), VCR OUT (BNC) connector outputs
nothing.
5ALARM connector
IN ALARM mode starts by short-circuiting between
connectors of each channel. Connect to external sensors
such as infrared sensors or door sensors. Each of the
connectors corresponds to No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the
CAMERA IN connectors respectively. The monitor
display switches to a picture from the camera that has
sent the alarm signal.
OUT During the ALARM mode, the output voltage is
LOW (0V).
Trigger OUT When the ALARM mode is activated,
starts an output at LOW (0V) for 100ms, then switches
to HIGH (5V) output.
Other functions
If there is no incoming video signal for a channel before and
after turning on the main power, the channel will show
flashing “NO VIDEO” display on a black background.
If an incoming video signal stops after the main power is
turned on, the screen will display the last video input in a
FREEZE picture with the flashing “NO VIDEO” display.
After a while, the display stops flashing.
To exit FREEZE picture, reestablish signal input or turn off
the monitor and restart.
