adjustment or repair. Always insist on the use of original spare parts. Failure to

comply with the above mentioned pre-cautions and instructions, could affect the

safe operation of this machine.

26. When using only one of the toasting slots, don’t let anything get into the other

slot, as both slots will become “live” when you lower the bread carriage handle.

27. Don’t let the toasting slots become covered during toasting.

28. If bread gets jammed, unplug the toaster, let it cool down fully, then carefully

remove the bread that’s jamming it. Don’t use anything sharp, such as a knife or

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Before using for the first time

1. Plug the cable into the power socket.

2. Operate the toaster without any bread inside, to cure the new elements. This

may smell a bit, but it’s nothing to worry about. Ensure the room is well ventilated

3. Turn the browning control to the highest setting (6).

Toasting bread

1. Place the toaster upright, on a stable, level, heat resistant surface, clear of

curtains and other combustible materials. Don’t put it on or near anything that

could be damaged even by moderate sources of heat.

2. Plug the cable into the power socket.

3. Set the browning level (1 = light, 6 = dark).

4. Put bread into the slots (max: 24mm thick).

5. Press the lever down fully. It won’t lock down unless the toaster is connected to

the electricity supply.

6. The status lights will count down –blue / purple / red / green.

7. When it’s done, the status lights will all be off and the toast will pop up.

Eject

To stop the toaster mid-cycle before it’s finished, press the eject button. The

toast will pop up, and the elements will turn off.

To stop the toaster mid-cycle, press

Defrost bread

1. This feature takes the guesswork out of defrosting bread.

2. Leave the browning control at your favoured setting, put the frozen bread into the

slots, lower the bread carriage lever and then press the defrost button.

3. The defrost light will come on, and the toasting time will be altered automatically

to give the same degree of browning you get with unfrozen bread.

Caution: Don’t try to defrost bread –you’ll probably damage the toaster

Be careful:

a) Toasting frozen bread changes ice to steam, which escapes via the toasting slots

b) Defrosting bread on a low setting changes ice to water, which drips into the

toaster, over the electronics and maybe the elements which will cause damage to

the toaster.

Reheating toast

1. You must only reheat plain, unbuttered toast.

2. Turn the browning control to the Reheat setting.

3. Press the bread carriage lever down fully –it won’t lock down unless the toaster

is connected to the electricity supply.

4. The reheat light will come on.

5. When it’s done, the toast will pop up, the reheat light will go out, and the

elements will turn off automatically.

Extra lift

After toasting smaller slices of bread the bread carriage lever may be raised further, to

allow them to be removed more easily.

Hints and tips

1. When toasting more than one slice of bread, use slices of similar size, thickness

and freshness.

2. Old (yesterday’s) bread contains less moisture, so makes crisper toast.

3. Old or thin bread cooks faster than fresh or thick bread, so use a lower setting.

4. Sweet bread products (tea cakes, fruit loaf, etc.) brown much more quickly than

ordinary bread so should be toasted on a lower setting.

Crumbs

5. Clean the crumbs out of your toaster frequently, to avoid a build up of crumbs.

This is unhygienic and could cause a fire hazard.

6. Unplug the toaster and let it cool down, then remove and empty the crumb tray.

7. Wipe it with a damp cloth, dry and then replace it in the toaster.

8. Don’t use the toaster unless the crumb tray is fitted and closed.

Jamming

If the bread jams in the toaster, the contacts will open and turn off the power to

the elements.

You should still unplug the toaster and leave it to cool down before trying to

release the jam.
