Preface

Thank you for using our switches. This manual (V1.22) provides you with detailed operation

guide that allows you to easily install and use the switches.

Scope

This manual describes the functional and physical features of the switches, and provides the

installation procedures, troubleshooting procedures, technical specifications, and

specifications and use rules of cables and connectors. It is intended for the users that have

some experience in installing and maintaining network hardware and want to learn the

above information. At the same time, it is assumed that the users of this switch are already

familiar with the related terms and concepts of Ethernet.

Document Structure

Chapter 1 “Product Overview” describes the scope of application, main features, ports

and LED.

Chapter 2 "Technical Specifications"describes the physical features, environment

requirements and power supply of the switches.

Chapter 3 “Product Installation” describes how to install the switch as a whole and its

installation of the optical modules to be hot-plugging/unplugging, and to connect the

power supply and the grounding cables and configuration port cables.

Chapter 4 “Troubleshooting” describes how to troubleshoot the faults, checking and

solution that may occur during your installation and use of the hardware.

Appendix A “Connectors and Connection Media”

Appendix B “SFP Module Description”, mainly describes the basic concept and

technical specifications of the SFP module.

1Product Overview

1.1 Major Usage and Applications

Ruijie's full gigabit security intelligent access switch is your optimal choice in the following

cases:

Access and convergence layer of small/middle-sized networks, such as university,

educational institute, enterprise, government, finance, hospital and broadband IP

premises network.

Networks of full gigabit accesses

Need of line speed switching

Need of complete QoS policy to classify service flows by applications and ensure no

delay for key data

Need of access control of high security to control the access to key resources

Need of different charging policies in the network, such as the broadband area.

1.2 Key Features

On the full gigabit security intelligent access switch developed by Ruijie Networks, the L2

line speed forwarding can be implemented between all ports, and high-performance

processors are used to monitor the whole network swiftly, stably and efficiently.

S2924G——Provides 20 10/100/1000M Base-T adaptive ports, 4 1000M combo SFP ports;

S2927XG——Provides 20 10/100/1000M Base-T adaptive ports, 4 1000M combo SFP ports

and 3 10G extended ports;

S2951XG——Provides 44 10/100/1000M Base-T adaptive ports, 4 1000M combo SFP ports

and 3 10G extended ports;

Main Features of S2900 series switches:

Provides L2 full line speed switching

The S2924G switch provides a switching capacity up to 48G. Its L2 packet forwarding

rate as much as 35.72Mpps (64 bytes) allows nonblocked switching for the users.

The S2927XG switch provides a switching capacity up to 108G. Its L2 packet

forwarding rate as much as 80.36Mpps (64 bytes) allows nonblocked switching for the

users.

The S2951XG switch provides a switching capacity up to 156G. Its L2 packet

forwarding rate as much as 116.07Mpps (64 bytes) allows nonblocked switching for the

users.

The RJ45 port supports the MDI/MDIX auto-recognizing function. The SFP port

supports many kinds of SFP modules and the SFP hot-plugging function.

The 10000M extension interface (supported by the S2927XG and S2951XG only)

works with the M5700-01XENPAK or M5700-01XFP module to support many kinds of

XENPAK or XFP optical modules and its hot-plugging function. It works with the

M2900-STACK stack module to implement the stack function, supporting the stack of

up to eight S2900 devices.

Powerful data processing design

Complicated functions of the S2900 such as switching, ACL, and QoS are implemented

via hardware, which avoids the impact produced by the implementation via software on

high-speed data processing.

High security assurance

The S2900 series provide multiple security control measures, including the port security,

AAA authentication, 802.1X, console password protection, VLAN classification, ACL

access control and CPU protection.

Provide multiple tree spanning protocols, including 802.1D, 802.1W and 802.1S, to

meet the convergence requirements in various user network environments.

Abundant application support technologies

Provide multiple flow classification technologies and QoS technologies, with enough

support technologies for the bandwidth guarantee for various applications.

Support the IGMP snooping to ensure reasonable bandwidth occupation in providing

multicast services in the network

Warning

The M5700-01XENPAK, M5700-01XFP, M M2900-STACK modules and

10000M stack cables are not hot-pluggable, avoiding damages to switches or

modules.
