1. General

1.1 About these service instructions

This document is an addition to the user instruction of the device. It inclu-

des all work that requires the opening of the device, installation of certain

components and maintenance work.

The service instructions enable the safe and ecient operation of the

device. The service technician must have carefully read and understood

this service instructions before starting any work.

The basic prerequisite for safe operation is compliance with all safety

instructions (see chapter „Safety instructions for service technicians“ auf

Seite 3). In addition to the safety and warning instructions in these

service instructions, the local accident prevention regulations and the

national industrial safety regulations apply.

Observe the following:

The environmental, installation and connection speciﬁcations in the

user instructions

Only use spare parts, tools and cleaning agents recommended or

prescribed by KNAUER.

Observe the RoHS conformity for mainboards! Never perform mainte-

nance on the mainboards independently. Always replace the mainboards

and return the defective boards to KNAUER technical support, otherwise

he warranty will lapse.

1.2 Signal words

Possible dangers related to the device are distinguished in personal and

material damages.

Symbol Meaning

DANGER (red) indicates a highly hazardous situa-

tion. If not avoided, it will result in death or serious

injury.

WARNING (orange) indicates a hazardous situa-

tion. If not avoided, it could result in death or

serious injury.

CAUTION (yellow) indicates a moderate hazardous

situation. If not avoided, it could result in minor or

moderate injury.

NOTICE (blue) is used to address issues which are

not related to physical injury.

1.4.3 Warranty seal

The warranty seal is a security label which indicates if

any opening on instrument has occurred. Most KNAUER

products are sold with the blue seal on the rear side to

conﬁrm that KNAUER was the last who took care of the

instrument.

An authorized service technician must order and ax

the orange warranty seal after opening the instrument

(order no. V0602) in the same place. If unauthorised per-

sons tamper with the device or if the seal is damaged,

the warranty will lapse.

1.4.4 Declaration of conformity

The declaration of conformity is enclosed as a separate document with

the product and can be obtained online:

2. Safety instructions for service technicians

The device has been developed and constructed in such a way that

hazards arising from its intended use are largely excluded. Nevertheless,

the following safety instructions must be observed in addition to the

basic safety instructions in the user instructions in order to avoid residual

hazards.

The following applies for all repairs on the device:

Electric shock

Danger of electric shock from voltage-carrying parts inside the

device. The housing serves as a protective cover against voltages

inside the device.

Switch the device o before opening the device.

Pull the power plug.

2.1 Qualiﬁcation of the service technician

These service instructions are intended for the following professional

groups:

Task Authorized

Maintenance KNAUER service technicians

Service technicians authorized by KNAUER

who have completed a service training

Level 2

Repair KNAUER service technicians

Service technicians authorized by KNAUER

who have completed a service training

Level 3

If you do not belong to one of these professional groups, you must under

no circumstances carry out the work described in this instruction.

The service technician is qualiﬁed to handle the device if all of the

following points apply:

Fluent English to be able to use the English-language service software

and online help.

Knowledge about the properties of the used solvents and their health

risks.

Protective measures

against any dangers

Electronic defect

Electrostatic discharge can destroy the electronics.

Wear a protective bracelet against electrostatic discharge and ground.

Who may perform

Due to technical training and experience, the service technician can

understand and carry out all the work described in the service instruc-

tions and recognize and avoid possible dangers independently.

The ability of the technician to react is not impaired by the consump-

tion of drugs, alcohol or medication

2.2 Service request form and decontamination

We advise you not to repair devices which are not accompanied by the

completed document “Service request form and decontamination report”

(www.knauer.net/decontamination-report).

3. What is maintained or repaired?

Check the number of operating hours in the KNAUER Service Tool

software.
