Use this guide to install hardware and perform inial soware conguraon, roune maintenance, and
troubleshoong for the SSR1400 appliance. Aer compleng the installaon and basic conguraon
procedures covered in this guide, refer to the Session Smart Router soware documentaon for
informaon about further soware conguraon.

The Juniper Networks SSR1400 is a 1-U xed-conguraon appliance that is ideal for medium data
center or campus deployments. Powered by the Juniper Session Smart Router (SSR) soware, the
SSR1400 provides secure and resilient WAN connecvity.
NOTE: To use the SSR1400, you must purchase the SSR soware subscripon license that is sold
separately. You can onboard and monitor the SSR1400 in a cloud network by using Juniper
Mist™.
Benets of SSR1400
•Zero Trust Security (ZTS)—The SSR1400 ensures ZTS by authencang all routes and encrypng all
session trac. Applicaons, devices, or users cannot iniate any session that does not comply with
the authencaon policies and access rules. The SSR1400 supports Layer 2 through Layer 5 stateful
rewall funcons, including DoS/DDoS protecon, NAT, encrypon, VPN, and trac ltering.
•Adapve encrypon—The SSR1400 automacally detects trac encrypted using HTTPS or IPsec
and does not re-encrypt such trac. This capability results in improved performance and reduced
overhead due to double encrypon.
•Simplied onboarding and monitoring with Juniper Mist WAN Assurance—You can quickly onboard
the SSR1400 to the Mist Cloud using the claim code (QR code). This helps in reducing the
operaonal complexity and simplifying the deployment and conguraon process.
NOTE: Starng from SSR Release 6.0, you can manage the SSR1400 using Juniper Mist WAN
Assurance.

Field-Replaceable Units in SSR1400 Appliances
Field-replaceable units (FRUs) are components that you can replace at your site. Following are the two
types of the SSR1400 FRUs:
• Hot-insertable and hot-removable—You can remove and replace these components without powering
o the appliance or disrupng the appliance funcon.
• Hot-pluggable—You can remove and replace these components without powering o the appliance,
but the appliance funcon is interrupted unl you replace the component.
The FRUs in SSR1400 appliances are:
• Fans (hot-insertable and hot-removable)
• Power supplies (hot-insertable and hot-removable)
• Transceivers (hot-pluggable)

Figure 1 on page 4 shows the front panel of an SSR1400. The SSR1400 comes with a claim code (QR
code) that you can use to onboard the SSR1400 to Juniper Mist.
