HP Remote Graphics Software

Installation Guide

Page 1

HP Remote Graphics Software Receiver and Sender

This document provides a quick overview of installing both the Receiver and Sender

Modules for each of the supported platforms (Microsoft® Windows®, Linux, and

HP-UX). For detailed instructions, refer to the online documentation provided on the

Module CDs.

•“Windows” on page 2

•“Linux” on page 4

•“HP-UX (PA-RISC)” on page 6

Page 2

Windows

NOTE: To enable remote viewing of OpenGL applications, the HP Remote Graphics

opengl32.dll library must be copied into the same directory as the OpenGL application

executable.

For example, if you want to enable remote viewing for the 3-D OpenGL application

"foo3d.exe" and the executable is installed in the directory "C:\Program Files\foo3d,"

manually copy the HP Remote Graphics opengl32.dll from "C:\Program

Files\Hewlett-Packard\Remote Graphics Sender\" to "C:\Program Files\foo3d." This

must be done before the application "foo3d.exe" is started.

If the opengl32.dll file is not copied to the correct location, the Remote Graphics Sender

will not be notified of OpenGL screen updates and the OpenGL application window

will appear black on the Receiver.

The DirectX API is not supported.

Linux

Installing the Receiver Module

Installation of the HP Remote Graphics Receiver for Linux is required on all systems that

automatically mounted.

3. Go to the mount point of the CD, which is usually /mnt/cdrom, and change

directories to lin32/receiver.

4. Execute the following command:

./install.sh

5. The Receiver will be installed into /opt/hpremote/rgreceiver. To start the Receiver,

execute the following command:

/opt/hpremote/rgreceiver/rgreceiver.sh

6. Optionally, add the directory /opt/hpremote/rgreceiver to your PATH environment

variable.

Installing the Sender Module

Page 5

6. Add the "rge" extension to the XF86Config file. Edit the file /etc/X11/XF86Config,

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or the appropriate XF86Config file on your system.

Depending on the X Server version, this file could be different. In the Modules

section of this file, add the following line:

Load "rge"

The Module section should read as follows:

Section "Module"

...

Load "rge"

....

EndSection

7. The Sender will be installed into /opt/hpremote/rgsender and will be started

automatically when the X Server or system is restarted, provided the appropriate

XF86Config file was correctly modified.

8. The Linux Sender uses the Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) for

authentication. Add the following lines to the files /etc/pam.d/gdm,

/etc/pam.d/kde, and /etc/pam.d/xdm:

session optional pam_rg.so

NOTE: If you are using the nVidia drivers, Version 1.0-5336 and beyond should be

used.

nVidia drivers have a defect. As a result the "NoFlip" option should be enabled in the

XF86Config file.

Section "Device"

Option "NoFlip" "on"

EndSection
