Description

HP Network Advisor 11.1.1 is a new software management platform that provides users with a

consistent user interface across FC and FCoE / DCB along with custom views and controls based on

the users’areas of specialization. Network Advisor provides users with the utmost flexibility in

deployment and operational models, including traditional SAN deployments (FC) and end-to-end

convergence (FCoE, iSCSI and NAS over DCB). It provides the next evolutionary step from the previous

DCFM software management platform, and is required for management of the new hardware platforms

highlighted below, and any future hardware platforms, as well as for the new Fabric OS 7.0.0a and

later releases.

New hardware platforms

There is now support for the following 16 Gbps hardware platforms:

•HP SN6000B 16Gb FC Switch with up to 48 ports running 2/4/8/10/16 Gbps FC for both

open systems and FICON environments.

•HP SN8000B 8-Slot SAN Backbone Director Switch and the HP SN8000B 4-Slot SAN Director

Switch. Both director switches are highly available, modular, and scalable platforms.

•New 16 Gbps Core Blades for the 16 Gbps director switches, enabling twice the slot bandwidth

available in previous generation directors.

•HP SN8000B 16Gb 32-port Fibre Channel Blade and HP SN8000B 16Gb 48-port Fibre Channel

New software features

SAN Management Feature Enhancements:

•DCB Switch Support: Network Advisor allows users to discover and manage DCB Switches from

the SAN tabs.

•Host Views are supported on the SAN Tabs and allow users to discover hosts using a Virtual

Machine Manager (VMM) such as vCenter Server.

•Virtualization now allows users to discover VMs directly from the vCenter.

•Unified ACL Management allows users to consistently define and deploy ACLs across different

types of devices.

•Dynamic Fabric Provisioning (Fabric Assigned WWN): In order to simplify and accelerate server

deployment and improve operational efficiency, Fabric OS 7.0.0x supports Fabric Assigned

WWN or FA-WWN, which uses a virtual WWN for a server instead of a server’s physical PWWN

to create zoning and LUN mapping/masking. Network Advisor supports this feature starting with

Network Advisor 11.1.1.

This is supported starting with HBA driver version 3.1.

Network Advisor brings forward the capabilities found in Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) for

SAN management with additional features and enhancements:

•Policy Monitor allows users to set up best practices for their network and run a test manually, or

on a scheduled basis, to ensure the network conforms to the best practices.

•Frame Monitor provides a monitoring mechanism that allows configuring different thresholds for

different types of frames and report events whenever a count for a particular frame type crosses

its respective threshold.

•D-port: Network Advisor allows users to run optical and electrical loopback and link traffic tests.

Network Advisor also provides digital diagnostics information on 16–Gb port optics, such as

temperature, Rx/Tx power, bias current, and supply voltage.

•Bottleneck Detection allows users to configure the parameters and view the statistics. In addition,

when a bottleneck is detected, Network Advisor allows users to view where the bottleneck is oc-

curring on topology as well as obtain information on the affected hosts.

•Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Management Pack populates Microsoft

SCOM with fabric details, switch details, statistics and call home events.

•Selective Server Support Save provides the ability to include or exclude performance and historical

events from the database while capturing server support save from SMC.

Migration and upgrades

DCFM 10.4.x running on the Linux and Windows operating systems can be upgraded to Network

Advisor 11.1.1. Network Advisor is not supported on the Solaris platform. DCFM 10.4.x running on

the Solaris platform must first migrate to a supported operating system, and then perform the upgrade

to Network Advisor 11.1 .0. Earlier versions of DCFM must first be upgraded to DCFM 10.4.x and

then upgraded to Network Advisor 11.1.1. Upgrades from DCFM to Network Advisor 11.1.x do not

require a new software license key.

Supported switches and firmware

Table 1 and Table 2 list switches and firmware families supported with HP Network Advisor 11.1.1.

This does not imply that all firmware versions listed in the left column are still supported by HP, but

rather that those are the firmware streams on which the corresponding switches are, or were, supported.

It also does not imply that all the firmware listed in streams is supported on each of the corresponding

switches. HP recommends using the latest software versions to get the greatest benefit from the SAN.
