1.0 INTRODUCTION
This manual is intended for all users of Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 supplied by Geosense
and provides information on their installation, operation and maintenance.
1.1 General Description
The Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 is a direct to web (D2W) wireless data transmitting node. It
is housed in a waterproof (IP68) case and can be used with sensors that output 4-20mA
or single ended voltage. The data it transmits is sent to a central website via the cloud.
The nodes can be read wirelessly from any PC/laptop as well as smartphones and tablets
via an internet web browser.
Designed to be used with :-
• Tilt meters
• Tilt Beams
• Piezometers
• Displacement transducers
• Total Pressure cells
Particular features of the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 are:-
• CE compliant
• IP68 Waterproof casing
• Cloud data storage
• Remote access
• Secure website
• Built in SIM card
• Long battery life
• Simple to set up
It is VITAL that personnel responsible for the
installation and use of the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 ,
READS and UNDERSTANDS this manual, prior to
working with the equipment.

1.2 Theory of Operation
The Geosense® Wi-SOS 100 is a revolutionary low cost wireless monitoring solution.
With no extra power supply or data cables required you can connect the device to any
compatible 4-20mA or single ended voltage sensor and data is automatically transmitted
to our sensor platform for reporting and logging. Each Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 can
connect to 1-2 single output sensors or a single biaxial tilt sensor.
The electronics within the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 are completely encased in a
waterproof (IP68) casing, therefore eliminating the need for additional casings. The small,
light casing allows the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 to be installed in small spaces.
The Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 has an internal batter that is estimated to last 5+ years at
15 minute reading intervals, but may change depending on reading frequency. This
eliminates the need for external battery packs and thus placing the Geosense®Wi-SOS
100 is a lot more flexible.
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 comes with a fully integrated GSM SIM card. The SIM card
comes fully set up and is tailored to the country in which they are being used in. This
gives the customer absolute piece of mind, in the knowledge that the Geosense®Wi-
SOS 100 comes ready to use.
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 is accessed through a cloud-powered sensor platform. Each
customer will get an individual login, which can be used to view all of the Geosense®
Wi-SOS 100’s at each individual site. The data can be viewed in simple graphs and
visualisations for ease of reading. This allows customers to build up a network of
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100’s and monitor each node at each site remotely.
The data can also be downloaded in CSV format for use in excel.

1.3 EMC - Electro Magnetic Compatibility
EMC is the electromagnetic interaction of electrical and electronic equipment with other
electrical and electronic equipment. All electronic devices have the potential to emit and
be affected by electromagnetic fields. With the reduction in size of electrical components
and the ever increasing amount of electrical & electronic devices such as mobile phones,
two-way radios, safety control systems, signalling, generators, welding equipment,
power cables etc in all environments, especially construction sites, there is a huge
potential for devices to interfere with each other.
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 has been designed and tested for EMC under the relevant CE
marking directives (see declaration).

4.3 Inspection
It is vital to check all the equipment in the shipment as soon as possible after taking
delivery and well before installation is to be carried out. Check that all the
components that are detailed on the documents are included in the shipment.
Check that the equipment has not been physically damaged.
If components are missing or damaged, contact the delivery company, the supplier
and / or Geosense.
4.0 DELIVERY
This section should be read by all users of the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100
4.2 Handling
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100’s are robust electronic items, therefore but there is a risk of
damage if incorrectly handled .They and their associated equipment should always
be handled with care during transport storage and installation.
Once the shipment has been checked ( see below ), it is recommended that the
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 remains in its original packaging for storage or transport.
4.1 Packaging
Geosense®Wi-SOS 100’s are packed for transport to their desired location.
Packaging is suitably robust to allow normal handling by transport companies.
However, inappropriate handling techniques may cause damage to the packaging
and the enclosed equipment. The packaging should be carefully inspected upon
delivery and any damage MUST be reported to both the transport company and
Geosense®.

4.4 Storage
All equipment should be stored in a dry environment that is protected from direct
sunlight.
Although the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 has a waterproof rating of IP68, care should
be taken to not damage the outer casing, as this would compromise the protection
and possibly lead to failure of the product.
The Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 is supplied with the sensor wires already attached, and
care must be taken to not damage these wires.
When not being used the Geosense®Wi-SOS 100 should be cleaned and stored
inside.
