ELECTRIC SHOCK -- Can kill

SInstall and earth the welding unit in accordance with applicable standards.

SDo not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or wet clothing.

SInsulate yourself from earth and the workpiece.

SEnsure your working stance is safe.

FUMES AND GASES -- Can be dangerous to health

SKeep your head out of the fumes.

SUse ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to take fumes and gases away from your breathing zone

and the general area.

ARC RAYS -- Can injure eyes and burn skin.

SProtect your eyes and body. Use the correct welding screen and filter lens and wear protective

clothing.

SProtect bystanders with suitable screens or curtains.

FIRE HAZARD

SSparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no inflammable materials nearby.

NOISE -- Excessive noise can damage hearing

SProtect your ears. Use earmuffs or other hearing protection.

SWarn bystanders of the risk.

MALFUNCTION -- Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction.

3 INTRODUCTION

The LAW 420, 420W, 520 and 520W are 6--pulse thyristor rectifiers designed for

semi--automatic welding.

Both rectifiers are fan--cooled and equipped with thermal overload protection.

Application classefication

These welding power sources conform to the requirements of IEC 974--1.

Duty cycle

The duty cycle refers to the time as a percentage of a ten--minute period that you can weld at a cer-

tain load without overloading the welding power source.

Enclosure class

The IP code indicates the enclosure class, i. e. the degree of protection against penetration by solid

objects or water. Equipment marked IP 23 is designed for indoor and outdoor use.

Application class

The symbol indicates that the power source is designed for use in areas with increased

electrical hazard.

5 INSTALLATION

The installation must be executed by a professional.

The power supply should be lifted by means of its lifting

eye. The handle is only intended for pulling it along the

ground.

Lifting instructions

WARNING!

This product is intended for industrial use. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio

interference. It is the user’s responsibility to take adequate precautions.

IMPORTANT

SPlace the welding power source in a suitable place and make sure the welding

rectifier is not covered or set--up so that cooling is prevented.

SMake sure the welding rectifier is connected to the correct mains voltage.

Earth according to applicable directives.

SConnect the power supply lead using the appropriate fuse in conformance with

local regulations.

Power supply lead complies to Swedish electrical regulations.

6 OPERATION

General safety regulations for the handling of the equipment can be found on

page 32. Read through before you start using the equipment!

6.1 Controls and connections

SA-- On/Off mains supply.

SB-- On/Off cooling unit (LAW 420W/520W)

SC-- Mains indicator lamp

SD-- Thermal overload warning lamp,

lights up in case of overheating

SE-- Welding socket, + terminal

SF-- Inductance socket, -- terminal

SG-- Inductance socket, -- terminal

SH-- Space for digital meters (optional)

SJ-- Automatic fuse 42 V AC--circuit

There is a risk of tipping if the wire feed cabinet is fitted with a counterbalance arm. Secure the

equipment, especially if used on an uneven or sloping surface.

Limit the angle of rotation of the wire feed cabinet using the straps supplied.

When moving the equipment, do NOT pull on the torch.

WARNING!

7 MAINTENANCE

Note:

All warranty undertakings given by the supplier cease to apply if the customer

attempts to rectify any faults on the machine during the warranty period.

The power source should be regularly blown clean using dry compressed air at

reduced pressure. More frequently in dirty environments.

Otherwise the air inlet/outlet may become blocked and cause overheating.

7.1 Topping up coolant

Mix: 50 % water 50 % glycol
