Basic Functionality Review with Speed Potentiometer and Run Forward/Stop/Run

Reverse Control Setup

The following parameters and values will be used for this tech note:

P204=5 Factory Reset to 60hz

P401=3.2A Motor Rated Current s

P402=1725 Motor Rated Speed

P403=60 Hz Motor Rated Freq

P100=2.0s Acceleration

P101=2.0s Deceleration

P133=3 Hz Drive Min Speed

P134=60Hz Drive Max Speed

P002 (Read) Drive Frequency

P003 (Read) Motor Current

P207=18 Bar Graph; AI 1 input value

P220 = 1; LOC/REM Source Selection; Always Remote

P222 = 1 REM Reference Selection; AI1 (Default)

P226 = 4; DIx (Default)

P227 = 1; Selection of Remote run-stop; DIx. (Default)

P231 = 0; AI1 Signal Function; Speed Reference. (Default)

P233 = 0; AI1 0-10V. (Default)

P263= 4 Function for DI1; ForwardRUN

P264 = 5 Function for DI2; Reverse RUN

P271 = DIx Function; All DIx NPN. . (Default)

Steps 2 thru 5 will use the motor’s nameplate to find the CFW300’s motor’s related parameters.

To begin reset the drive to factory defaults:

1. Press the "P" button to get to the parameters, and scroll with UP/DOWN arrow to parameter

204(Reset Defaults). Press "P" again,then using the UP/DOWN arrows scroll tovalue "5". Press

“P” to accept the value. This will reset the drive parameters to factory default for 60 Hertz.

2. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter 400, Motor Rated Voltage. Press “P”. Scroll UP/DOWN to select

the motor name plate voltage. Press "P" to accept the value.

3. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter 401, Motor Rated Current. Press “P”. Scroll UP/DOWN to select

the motor name plate FLA. Press "P" to accept the value.

4. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter 402, Motor Rated Speed. Select “P”. Using the UP/DOWN arrows

select the motor nameplate RPM. Once found press “P” again to save the value.

5. Scroll UP/DOWN arrows to Parameter 403, Motor Max Frequency. Using the UP/DOWN arrows

select the motor nameplate frequency. Once found press “P” again to save the value. The

following steps will set up the accel/decel time along with the min/max speed which the VFD

will react to when the speed pot or the CFW300 HMI’s UP/DOWN arrows is adjusted.

6. Scroll UP/DOWN arrow to find Parameter P100, Acceleration. Select "P". Use the UP/DOWN

arrow to find 5.0 seconds (for this exercise) and press "P" to accept the value.

7. Scroll UP/DOWN arrow to find Parameter P101, Deceleration. Select "P". Use the UP/DOWN

arrow to find 5.0 seconds (for this exercise) and press "P" to accept the value.

8. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter P133, MIN Speed. Select “P”. Use the UP/DOWN arrow tofind

3.0 (for this exercise). Press "P" to accept the value.

9. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter, P134,MAX Speed. Select "P". Use the UP/DOWN arrow to find

60.0 Hertz (for this exercise). Press "P" to accept the value.

10. Scroll UP/DOWN to Parameter P002,VFD Output Frequency. Now press the Run/Stop key to

start the motor. Since the drive speed is 3hz, the drive outputwill be 3. Now use the UP arrow

and increase the value, and the motor will speed up. Once this is verified, press the Run/Stop

key and the motor will stop.

Next analog control. Use the drawing below as reference for NPN:

The following steps will set up the “REMOTE” operation of the VFD (potentiometer or analog

voltage/milliamp signal for the speed source thru the CFW300’s Analog Connections,as well as

Run/Stopand Direction thru theVFD’sDigital Inputs).

1. Scroll UP/DOWN toparameter P220,"LOC/REM Source Selection". Press "P",scroll UP/DOWN

to find 1, "Always Remote". Press "P" to accept the value.

2. ScrollUP/DOWN to parameter P222, "REM Reference Selection". Press "P". Scroll

UP/DOWN to 1, "AI1" (Analog Input 1). Press "P" to accept the value.

3. For speed reference from potentiometer, the VFD will provide 10VDC. Connect the outside

wires (POT reference connections) to terminals (-)7 and (+)9, and the center wire (POT wiper

input) to terminal 8.

4. Scroll UP/DOWN toparameter P231,"AI1 Signal Function".Press "P",scroll UP/DOWN to find 0,

"Speed Reference". Press "P" to accept the value.

5. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter P233, "AI1 Input Signal". Press "P", scroll UP/DOWN to find 0, "0

to 10V/20 mA". Press "P" to accept the value.

6. To verify the AI1 signal “polarity” is correct, scroll UP/DOWN to parameter P207, "Bar Graph

Parameter". Scroll UP/DOWN to "18". Press "P" to accept the value (this value refers to P018,

which is the AI 1 value). This will verify the signal connections are correct using the bar graph on

the display. Wire connection signal will display as they are connected on the bar graph at the

very bottom of the display. Scroll UP/DOWN and if the POT signal displays in reverse of the

UP/DOWN arrows, then swap wires on terminals 7 and 9.

Setup Run/Stop and Direction control: In this setup, DI1 will be "Forward RUN" (Maintained N.O. dry

contact) and DI2 will be "Reverse RUN" (Maintained N.O. Dry Contact). Only one signal can be made at

a time, and breaking both signals will be STOP. This is normally accomplished with a 3-position

maintained selector switch. Position 1=FWD RUN (DI1), 2=OFF, and 3=REVERSE RUN (DI2). Center

position is not associated or connected to an input so it =STOP.

1. Press “P” and scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 271, "DIx Function". Press "P", scroll UP/DOWN to

find 0, "All DIx NPN". Press "P" to accept the value.

2. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 220, "LOC/REM Selection Source". Press "P". Scroll UP/DOWN to

find 1, ”Always Remote”. Press "P" to accept the value.

3. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 226, "REMFWD/REV". Press "P". Scroll UP/DOWN to find 4,

”DIx”. Press "P" to accept the value.

4. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 227, "REM Run/Stop Selection". Press "P". Scroll UP/DOWN to

find 1,for "DIx" (meaning oneof the Digital Inputs). Press"P"to accept the value.

5. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 263, "DI 1Input Function". Press "P". Scroll UP/DOWN to find

“4”,for "Forward Run". Press "P" toaccept the value.

6. Scroll UP/DOWN to parameter 264"DI 2 InputFunction". Press "P". Scroll UP/DOWN tofind “5”,

"Reverse Run". Press "P" to accept the value.
