•This equipment contains a rechargeable Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery.
•The rechargeable Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery contained in this equipment may
explode if disposed of in a fire.
•Do not short-circuit the battery.
•Do not charge the rechargeable Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery used in this equipment
in any charger other than the one designed to charge this battery as specified in the
owner’s manual. Using another charger may damage the battery or cause the
battery to explode.

Additional Battery Safety Precautions
Caution! To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons by the battery, read and follow
these instructions:
1. Use only the Uniden battery pack (BT-446) specified in the owner’s manual.
2. Do not dispose of the battery pack in a fire. The cell may explode.
Check the Nickel Metal Hydride battery disposal package insert for
disposal instructions.
3. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Released electrolyte is corrosive and
may cause damage to the eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed.
4. Exercise care in handling the battery in order not to short the battery with
conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor
may overheat and cause burns.
5. Charge the battery pack provided with or identified for use with this product only in
accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in the owner’s manual
provided for this product.
6. Observe proper polarity orientation between the battery pack and battery charger.

WHAM is an accessory of the POLARIS™. The Uniden WHAM 900
MHz analog wireless mic is designed to provide you with years of
trouble-free service. Its rugged components and materials are easily
capable of withstanding the harsh marine environment. As it has a JIS7
waterproof housing to protect the electronics.

Controls and Indicators
1. SCAN/MEM - Select Scan mode and setup Memory channels.
Press this key to activate the Scan operation. Press and hold this
key for 2 seconds to place a channel into Scan Memory or remove
a channel from Scan Memory.
2. POWER/VOL - This is to control the wireless mic power and
speaker volume.
3. ▲/▼- Change the channel number up/down. These buttons are used to
adjust the volume for Hail mode and to move the cursor in Menu mode.
4. MENU/HAIL - It is used to access the Menu. Press and hold the
key for 2 seconds to activate the Hail feature.
5. Microphone
6. DISTRESS - Send a signal of distress in case of emergency.
7. WX/ALERT - Select Weather Channel and Weather Alert mode.
Press this key to listen to active NOAA Weather Channels.
Press and hold this key for 2 seconds to place the radio into the
Weather Alert mode.
8. 16/9/TRI - Instantly change to Channel 16, Channel 9, and Triple
Watch mode.
9. H/L/SELECT - Change transmit power HI/LO and make selections in
the menu. Press this key to change the transmit power to either High
or Low.
10. LIGHT/LOCK –Change the LCD backlight HI/MID/LO, and turn the
Key Lock On/Off.
11. PTT (Press – to – talk) Switch - Press to transmit and release to
receive.

1. TX (Transmit) - Indicates transmitting.
TRI (Triple Watch) - Indicates Triple Watch Mode and Triple
Watch Scan Mode.
2. HI (High) - Indicates transmit output is 25 Watts.
LO (Low) - Indicates transmit output is 1 Watt.
3. USA - Indicates US Channel Mode.
CAN - Indicates Canada Channel Mode.
INT - Indicates International Channel Mode.
4. MEM (Memory) - Indicates Memory Scan Mode status for each
channel selected.
5. Channel Display - Indicates Channel Number in use.
6. WX - Indicates Weather Channel Mode has been activated.
7. ALT - Indicates Weather Alert Mode has been activated.

Getting Started
Mounting the Drop-in Charger
1. Mount the drop-in charger to either a bulk head or dash.
2. Plug one end of the AC adapter into a wall outlet, or the DC
adapter into a cigarette lighter socket, and the other end into the
drop-in charger.
* Please turn the power Off on the WHAM before charging.

Installation
Installing the Battery Pack
1. Use a coin or screw driver to loosen the
screw on the cover.
2. Unlock both sides of the battery
compartment.
3. Open the cover.
4. Connect the battery pack (BT-446)
connector observing the correct
polarity (black and red wires) to the
jack inside the battery
compartment. Do not exert any
force on this connection. It could
cause damage to the battery or
handset.
The plastic connector will fit
together only one way. Once you
are certain that you have made a
good connection, then insert the
battery pack into the battery
compartment. Do not pinch the
wires.
5. Tighten the screw on the cover.

Installing the Beltclip
1. Place the beltclip on the mounting area
on the back of the WHAM, making sure
the hole in the clip lines up with the
notch on the back of the WHAM.
2. Insert the screw into the corresponding
hole and tighten.
Or
1. Put the alkaline battery tray inside,
and install the 3 AAA batteries in
the tray.
2. Replace the cover.
3. Lock both sides of the battery
compartment.
4. Tighten the screw on the cover.
