Congratulations on your purchase of a Tuffcare®
Compact Featherlight! Tuffcare’s Compact Featherlight
is a self propelled wheelchair designed specially for
individuals with an active life style. Its’ main frame is
made of alloy steel for strength with aluminim and high
impact nylon parts to reduce weight. Our Compact
Featherlight has multiple size adjustment in all key
locations, it a great choice with users that require to
spend long period of on the chair. Quick release rear
wheels and front riggings makes transporting easy.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
GENERAL GUIDELINES
GENERAL GUIDELINES contains important information for
the safe operation and use of this Medical Device.
LDo not operate your wheelchair until you have read and
fully understood this manual.
LDo not operate your wheelchair until its fully assembled
and checked.
LDo not leave your wheelchair unattended without locking
its brakes.
LDo not stop on a grade or ramp.
LDo not store this product at extreme temperatures (<0 >
40o).
LDo not exceed weight limit or it could result in serious in-
jury.
LWatch out for: Uneven surfaces, cords, loose rugs, misc
toys or tools on the ground, spilled water or oily surfaces.
LDo not perform adjustment to the wheelchair while it is in
use.
LDo not move backwards without making sure no obstacle
is behind you.
LDo not make sharp turns.
LDo not turn or reverse on an incline.(maximum 10% incline)
LAll wheels must be in contact with the floor at all times during
use. This will ensure the wheelchair is properly balanced.
LDo not lean over your wheelchair for any reason. Check
before use that the product is stable, rigid and that all rivets
and screws are fastened.

ASSEMBLY
ASSEMBLY
The wheelchair comes with a pre-assembled main frame for
easy assembly.
WARNING
Use only Tuffcare parts to complete this wheelchair.
ATTACHING THE BACK REST AND SEATBELT OF THE
WHEELCHAIR
1a. To assemble the backrest
section, fold the lower frame of
the wheelchair horizontally,
pushing the connecting pipes
closer together.
1b. After folding the chair, align
the back posts with the back
connecting pipes.

ATTACH OR DETACH THE REAR WHEELS FROM THE
WHEELCHAIR
2a. Locate the rear wheel axle receptacle hole on the side of
the wheelchair below the back post. * Make sure the wheel
lock is disengaged to avoid obstacle to the wheel.
2b. Align the quick release axle with the connecting receptacle
hole on the wheel mounting plate.

1f. To keep the lower part of
back upholstery from moving,
secure the bottom part of it to
the frame with the two velcro
cable ties provided.

1c. Insert the back posts into the connecting pipes. Adjust the
back upholstery to the user’s prefered height, line up the
screw holes on the back post to the hex hole on the connecting
pipe.
1d. Insert the mounting bolt from out side of the frame. The
hole on the outside is a hexagon shape, the hexagon head
of the bolt should sit in the space nicely. Secure on other side
of the bolt with a black cross knob.
1e. If the seat belt is needed, insert the brass loop holes at
the end of the seat belt between the backpost bolt and knob
and tighten.
2d. Press the button located
at the center of the wheel and
insert it into the receptacle hole.
2e. Release the button and make sure the two balls at the end
of the axle shaft protrude pass the receptacle tube to secure.
Repeat on the other side.
2f. Press the button located at
the center of the wheel while
pulling the wheel outwards to
detach.

ATTACH THE ANTI-TIPPERS TO THE WHEELCHAIR
3a. Locate the end pipe of the back wheel on the back of the
wheelchair.
3b. Insert the anti-tipper into the end pipe until the locking pins
locked in place. Repeat on the other side.
3c. When anti-tipper is not
needed, press and hold the
locking pins on both sides of
the end tube, rotate the anti-
tipper wheels upwards to
move it out of the way.

4e. Align the pin holes on the front rigging with the connecting
pins on the wheelchair main frame.
4f. Connect the pins on the wheelchair with the holes on the
front rigging and close the metal tab around the wheelchair
lower mounting bracket.
4g. Make sure the 2 mounting tabs on front rigging seat flat
with the mounting bracket on the wheelchair frame, and the
pin holes are inserted to the mounting pins.

ATTACHING THE FRONT RIGGING TO THE WHEELCHAIR
4a. Locate the detachable
legrest or footrest.
4b. Locate the connecting tab on the detachable legrest or
footrest with the two connecting pin holes.
4c. Open the connecting metal tab on the front rigging.
4d. Locate the two connecting pins on the wheelchair above
the caster wheels.
USING THE SEATBELT
To engage the seatbelt, push the fork inside the clasp. Press
the fork tabs in the clasp to open the seatbelt.
Adjust the tension of the seatbelt accordingly by pulling on the
end strap on the fork side.
USING THE WHEEL BRAKES
1. Locate the handles on either side
of the wheelchair in front of the
wheels.
2. Push the handle bar on the brake
forward to activate the wheel brakes,
pull back to release brake.

ADJUSTMENTS ADJUSTING THE SEAT HEIGHT
Rise the seat height by reposition the rear wheel mounting plate.
Note: When rising the seat height, front caster need to be
exchange with 8” casters.
1. Locate the quick release axle mounting plate on the main
frame of the wheelchair. Remove the two screws holding the
mounting plate to the frame.
2. Adjust the plate by positioning it on the
mounting tube of the wheelchair to the
prefered height. The seat height is at 18”
by default, moving the plate to the middle
position will raise the seat to 19” , move it
to the lower setting will raise the seat to
20”.
3. When adjusted to the prefered
height, replace the screws and
tightly seal close with the screw
nuts and washers. Repeat on the
other side and reinsert the wheels
into the knob.

ADJUSTING CASTER HEIGHT OR REPLACING
1. Locate the caster wheel in the front of the wheelchair and
remove the screw nut and screw from the fork of the caster
wheel.
2. After removing the screw, adjust the caster
wheel fork to the prefered height.
3. Line up the caster wheel fork with
the caster wheel and reinsert the
screw, tightly sealing it with the
screw nut. Repeat on the other
side.
Note: When rising the seat height,
replace the 6 inch front caster wheel
with the optional 8 inch front caster
wheel by following the previous
screw removal steps.

ADJUSTING REAR WHEEL FOR AMPUTEE
Note: This process adds 4” to the distance between the
front and rear wheel, increase stability to the base.
1. Locate the quick release axle mounting plate on the main
frame of the wheelchair. Remove the two screws holding the
mounting plate to the frame.
2. Flip the mounting plate facing back of the frame.
3. Then replace the screws and tightly seal close with the
screw nuts and washers. Repeat on the other side and reinsert
the wheels into the knob.
ADJUSTING THE ANGLE OF THE CASTER WHEEL
1. The degree of the caster wheel angle can be adjusted by
removing the screw from the caster stem and rotating the
hexagonal dial plate.
2. Rotate the hexagonal dial plate to change the caster to the
prefered angle and screw tightly close.
ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE ARM RESTS
1. Locate the release button on the side of the side panel
below the armrest.

2. While pressing the button, pull up or push down the arm
pad to the prefered height. Once the arm height is adjusted,
release the button to secure the arm in place.
USING THE SWINGBACK ARMS
1. Locate the arm lock of the swingback arm at the bottom of
the arm, in between the seat and the wheel lock.
